Jays power returns to win big behind Richmond and great defence but more bad news re pitching staff.

Toronto v Phillies Game two of three.

Lineups: Toronto: Scutaro, Hill, Wells, Rolen, Lind, Rios, Overbay, Barajas and Richmond hitting and pitching.
Phillies: Rollins, Victorino, Utley, Howard, Ibanez, Werth, Feliz, Coaste and Moyer pitching.
Jays win this one going away 7-1.

The very good: On a day when pitching news is all bad Richmond goes eight innings and strikes out ten. Scutaro three hit night. Home runs from Barajas, Hill and Rolen. League finishing it off and getting last two with bases loaded. Have to note tonight the play by Scutaro and Hill. Not only with the bats but in defence. When Hill first made the majors it was anticipated that he and Russ Adams would be the duo, but if all goes well it could be Scutaro and Hill becoming that very impressive infield duo for years to come and also one two leadoff. Jays pick up a game on the Yankees losing tonight to Washington.

The bad: Jays put Halladay Janssen and Downs on disabled list. Rios once again on basepaths getting doubled on a fly ball to right centre in front of him, should never happen Alex. BJ Ryan again not a good one third of an inning loaded them up and only one out, could not throw strikes tonight. His ERA continues to drop though, now .582. It was more than double that a couple of weeks ago.

Top 1st: Scutaro singles to centre. Hill doubles to centre and here comes Scutaro, 1-0 Jays. That makes a change. Wells walks. Two on for Rolen. Singles to left Hill scores, Wells to second. 2-0 Jays. Lind strikes out. Rios Wells stealing third and safe. Rolen stealing second and safe. Rios grounds to Rollins, throw to Howard at first for the out but Vernon scores. 3-0 Jays. Some aggression here Cito? Two down for Overbay grounds to Howard throw to pitcher Moyer. 24 pitches for Moyer but Jays are off and running.
Bottom 1st: Rollins strikes out. Victorino singles to centre. Utley strikes out. Howard walked, Victorino to second. two on two down full count, Strikes out on ball four, Richmond 23 pitches.

Top 2nd: Barajas 3-0 count takes one. Oh boy Barajas gets hold of this one and it is out of here deep left centre, way over the 387ft mark. 4-0 Jays. Richmond, no chances tonight, takers third strike and that is fine with Cito. No way is he going to lose another pitcher here. Scutaro now broke that 0-6 from last night with single in the first. Grounds another up the middle. 2-2 already. Hill fly ball to left, two down for Vernon. Pulls it down third base line into left corner, Scutaro to second. Two on two down for Rolen. Fly ball to right but Jays have added another.46 pitches for Moyer in two innings. Jays would love to get into that Phillies bullpen again tonight..
Bottom 2nd: Werth, strikes out does not like that call. Feliz singles to centre. Coste singles to left, Feliz to second. Two on and one down. Moyer bunting back to Richmond throw to Rolen to get Feliz, Rolen throws a bullet to Hill at first gets Moyer by a mile, double play ball. Wow what a Gold glove play by Rolen. Richmond 35 pitches.

Top 3rd: Lind grounds to Utley throw to Howard, one down. Rios singles up the middle. Overbay full count, Alex should be going here. Yes he is but Lyle swings and gets an edge. Tries again, Lyle fly ball to centre. Rios on second no chance to get back double play ball. Why is that Alex is always in these baserunning plays? My theory is that Alex has a baserunning weakness, it happens stooo often. Just for some reason cannot get it. Moyer 59 pitches.
Bottom 3rd: Rollins bunting but pops up to Barajas on first pitch. One down for Victorino. Strikes out. Two down for Utley strikes out. Nice inning by Richmond. Six strikeouts for Richmond so far. 45 pitches.

Top 4th: Barajas fly ball out to Werth in right, one down for Richmond. Strikes out but took five pitches for Moyer. Scutaro two down. Full count and walks. Hill with one on and two down. Grounds first pitch to Rollins, throw to Utley for third out. 71 pitches for Moyer.
Bottom 4th: Howard, singles into centre. One on for Ibanez, grounds up the middle, oh boy another highlight reel play,Scutaro scops it up and gloves it to Hill on to Overbay double play ball. Great play by Scutaro. Richmond getting great assistance tonight from his defence.Werth with two down. Fly ball to right centre but just carries out of here. 4-1 Jays. Richmond lucky bases were empty for that blast. Feliz grounds first pitch off glove of Richmond to Hill throw to Overbay for the out. Richmond 56 pitches.

Top 5th: Wells, fly ball to right. One down for Rolen. Fly ball to Victorino in centre. Two down for Lind 0-2 tonight, not this time, singles into right. Rios grounds to Rollins at shirt, throw to Utley to get Rolen. Moyer 78 pitches. Jays not as patient as they were in earlier innings.
Bottom 5th: Coste strikes out. Moyer strikes out, Two down for Rollins 3-0 count. Pops it up to Scutaro in shallow centre. Eight strikeouts for Richmond 71 pitches.

Top 6th: Overbay strikes out one down. Barajas strikes out. Richmond strikes out but no way will be swinging..
Bottom 6th: Victorino grounds to Overbay, one down. Utley pops it up to Rios in shallow right, looks as if he lost that in the lights. Two down for Howard. Strikes out number nine.

Top 7th: Scutaro leading off. Moyer at 93 pitches. 3-0 count. Singles into left. Scutaro third hit tonight after hitless 0-6 last night. Hill. this one is out of here into left field seats, home run number 15 for Hill, Scutaro scores Hill scores, 6-1 Jays. That’s it for Moyer. Durbin pitching Wells, 1-2 tonight to go with two hits last night. He will be happier. Strikes out here on three pitches. Rolen first pitch gets hold of this one a bullet into left seats. No doubts about that one. 7-1 Jays. Lind, can he rub it in? Fly ball to Ibanez in left, two down for Rios, time to join the home run crowd Alex. Lines it hard to centre but run down by Victorino. Jays add three more insurance runs. Crowd thinning even more.
Bottom 7th: Ibanez strikes out. Werth pops up to Rios. Feliz grounds to Scutaro throw to Overbay.

Top 8th: Overbay the only Jays (besides Richmond) without a hit tonight. Taschner pitching Overbay fly ball to Victorino in centre. Barajas 3-0 count and walks. Richmond at bat strikes out, no way is he running. Scutaro with Barajas at first and two down. Scutaro grounds to third base Feliz throw to Howard at first.
Bottom 8th: Coste fly ball to Wells. Dobbs pinch-hitting for Taschner, strikes out. Two down for Rollins, fly ball to Lind.

Top 9th: Walker pitching, Hill at bat. Grounds to short but Hill beats out the throw a three hit night for both Aaron and Scutaro. Wells at bat with one on, strikes out. Rolen a two hit night, strikes out. Lind popped out to left fielder Ibanez.
Bottom 9th: And Jays have no Downs. BJ Ryan pitching. Victorino singles to centre. Utley full count Utley fly ball to Rios. One down one on for Howard 3-0 and walks on four pitches, come on BJ don’t blow this one. Two on one down for Ibanez. Ibanez walks bases loaded for Werth. No room here BJ. That’s it for Ryan. Seventeen pitches eleven balls two walks, one out, not his night. Here comes League with bases loaded. Werh strikes out, that is huge. Two down bases still loaded. Feliz grounds to Scutaro flip to Hill, Ibanez out at second.

Jays win this one big and fitting that Scutaro and Hill should end this one. Richmond gets the win.
