Jays embarrassed even with the second team out there.

Toronto v Kansas. Game two of three.
Preview: This game is by no means a walkover. Jays always take such games lightly and always suffer. Let’s see today. Hochevar 0-2 and 10.80 ERA looks easy pickings but those are the pitchers that give Jays trouble, the rookies pitching first games and the pitcher who is supposedly finished.

Lineups: Kansas: DeJesus, Bloomquist, Butler, Jacobs, Guillen, Teahen, Callaspo, Pena, Maier and Hochevar pitching
Toronto: Cito has his second team playing today. No Hill, No Rolen, No Barajas. Scutaro, Bautista, Rios, Wells, Lind, Millar, Overbay, Chavez, McDonald and Richmond pitching.

The good: Nothing much. BJ Ryan three up and down and reducing his ERA down to .743 from over 8 and before that over 10. Good signs. Johnny Mc. highlight reel fielding.
The bad: Far too much. Richmond. All the hitters not least the top six. Vernon what more can we say about this guy, he is totally out of his depth right now. Has not a clue at bat, repeating the same old mistakes over and over again. If the fans had a $ for every time he grounds to third or short we would all earn as much as he does, let alone for every double play. The thing is when he goes up the middle or the opposite field he is fine. He needs to play in New York and aim at the wind tunnel.

Jays lose this one 5-2. But I am afraid you can see these games coming with the Jays.

Top 1st: DeJesus fly ball to Lind in left. Bloomquist fly ball to Wells. Two down for Butler lines to Scutaro at short. Three up and down for Richmond.
Bottom 1st: Scutaro strikes out. Bautista grounds to Bloomquist at short throw to first base Butler. Rios grounds to third base Teahen throw to Butler. Jays go quietly.

Top 2nd: Jacobs fouls out to Chavez catching for Barajas today. Guillen pops up to Overbay.Teahen grounds to Overbay .
Bottom 2nd: Wells grounds to third base Teahen throw to first base Butler. One down for Lind pops up to short Bloomquist. Millar lined out to left fielder DeJesus.

Top 3rd: Callaspo lines to Lind. One down. Pena singles to centre. Maier grounds to McDonald flip to Scutaro throw to Overbay. Double play ball.
Bottom 3rd: Overbay full count and walks.Chavez with one on, there it goes home run to left two runs score and Jays go out ahead 2-0. McDonald singles to centre. Hochevar will not like that. Scutaro grounds to Bloomquist throw to Callaspo to get Johnny Mc. Bautista infield single to short, Scutaro to second. Rios grounds to Teahen on to Callaspo on to Butler double play ball. Oh boy Alex cannot do much right these days can he?

Top 4th: DeJesus strikes out. Bloomquist grounds to Scutaro throw to Overbay. Two down. Butler grounds to Scutaro throw to Overbay. Richmond doing well with the ground balls so far.
Bottom 4th: Wells walks. Lind grounds to Butler throw to Bloomquist for one back to Butler ed double play ball. Second in two innings. Millar strikes out.

Top 5th: Jacobs strikes out. Guillen singles to right. Teahen, there it goes this game is all tied up as Teahen hits this one into left field seats. 2-2. I told you watch this Teahen, he was very impressive in Dunedin playing for Canada in the games against Jays and USA. Callaspo doubles to left. Pena grounds to ed out, first baseman Overbay to pitcher Richmond, Callaspo to third. You cannot let this team get back into this Scott, they are on a eight game losing streak and want to end it., don’t given them an opening.. Maier with one at third, full count, and walks him. DeJesus 3-0 count and in danger of walking bases loaded. I am surprised coach has not been out to settle him down. Walks him, bases loaded. Chavez now goes out a little late here guys. Now the pitching coach is out there. Should have been after that home run friends. Action in Jays bullpen. Camp. Bloomquist There it goes triple to left field wall. 5-2 Royals. That’s it for Richmond. This team taking the Royals lightly again… nothing worse than facing a team hungry to break a long losing streak. Give them an inch and the dam bursts. Camp pitching with one on and two down. Butler fly ball to Wells but the floodgates are opened. How will Jays hitters respond?
Bottom 5th: Overbay fly ball to Maier in centre, Hochevar now some new energy. One down for Chavez grounds to short throw to Butler at first two quick outs Not the response Jays need here. Johnny Mc first pitch fly ball to DeJesus in left almost collided with Maier. But Hochevar did his job a very, very quick inning six pitches ???? and Kansas hitters back out there. Not very good hitting by Jays here. Hochevar senses a win, only 63 pitches, he will be fine to go the distance.

Top 6th: Jacobs, singles to right. Guillen strikes out but took as many pitches as Hochevar threw to get three Jays last inning. One down one on for Teahen 3-0 count. There’s a strike. Grounds to Johnny Mc slides to save and flips with his glove hand to Scutaro over to Overbay double play ball, Highlight Johnny MC play. Perhaps that will kick start this anemic offence today.
Bottom 6th: Top of the order. Scutaro almost but not quite, gives it a long ride for DeJesus up against the wall. One down for Bautista fly ball to Maier in centre. Jays hitters have to get over this they don’t need home runs every at bat, they need base runners, all trying to be heroes. Rios hitless today fly ball to DeJesus. I rest my case. Time is running out.

Top 7th: Callaspo grounds to Overbay flip to Camp, one down. Pena doubles off the glove of Bautista, I think Rolen would have gobbled that one up. Maier grounds to Scutaro throw to Overbay two down Pena to third, Carlson up in bullpen. DeJesus grounds to McDonald throw to Overbay for the third out.
Bottom 7th: Wells leading off, need to show some leadership here Vernon. Grounds to short, his usual pull. Throw to first one down. Lind hitless today. strikes out. Two down for Millar. Royals bullpen working but I don’t think they will need them at this rate. Hochevar is mowing the Jays hitters down looking like Greinke out there. Full count. he hasn’t had many of those in last few innings with the free swinging Jays. Grounds to third, throw gets away at first and Millar escapes. Error to Teahen on the play. Here comes pitching coach just a chat…. Overbay with Millar at first. There you go Lyle, doubles to centre wall, Millar chugging along could only make it to third. Chavez with two in scoring position, don’t try to be a hero Chavez just a single will do. No that’s it for Hochevar. Did a great job and could probably finish this off but bullpen is ready. Farnsworth first pitch, sigh… grounds to Teahen throw to first and that’s the story of this game…. Take a couple put some pressure on Farnsworth, increase your odds of passed ball, wild pitch but not that. The price of inexperience.

Top 8th: Carlson, Bloomquist strikes out, one down for Butler. Doubles past diving Bautista, another for Rolen ? Ah well I don’t think it matters today, Jays look as if they are going through the motions. Jacobs full count. Walks. Two on one down for Guillen, Carlson labouring here. Fky bal to Wells, two down, runners hold. Teahen with two on. Carlson had better be careful here, not listening, Teahan singles to left, runs scores 6-2. Callaspo Carlson getting wild here, strikes out but more damage done and I don’t think this Jays team today has it in them to score four let alone five to win. Should Cito have put out this second team against Hochevar?
Bottom 8th: Six more outs for Jays to do something here. One hit today from the top six in the order. Hmmm. McDonald to lead off. Hmm again. Cito not pulling out all the stops here for a win ? or is he also thinking of Halladay tomorrow ? Johnny Mc strikes out on three pitches. Scutaro fly ball to Maier in centre. Two down BJ Ryan up in bullpen. Bautista with the two missed chances at third a chance here to redeem, fly ball to left. Easy three up and own for Farnsworth. I wonder what Gibbons thinks of it all in the Royals dugout? Jays are playing today the way they did for him before he was let go.

Top 9th: BJ pitching, another chance to reduce that ERA. Crowd has thinned out they have no faith in Jays comeback today. The kids are still here though they can get to run bases after the game today. Pena full count, come on BJ. Grounds to McDonald throw to Overbay one down. Maier another full count, great pitch to get him looking. Two down for DeJesus pops it up to Rios. Three up and down for BJ. Now Jays hitters get out there and win this thing for BJ !!!
Bottom 9th: Rios to leadoff. Soria pitching 7/7 saves. good luck Jays. Alex hitless today but not alone five hitless in this Jays lineup. 3-0 count and walks on four. That’s the idea Alex baserunners. Vernon now please stay out of the double play, do not ground to third. Will Alex go, 02 now on Vernon, grounds to short steps on second throw to first double play ball. Futility spelled VERNON. Lind last chance, also hitless by the way. Stays that way as he lifts it into right for third out and an embarrassing loss for Jays today even with the second team that was unacceptable.

Cito will probably say that Hochevar pitched well and Richmond did for four and tomorrow is another day.
Maybe. But what do you do with a Vernon Wells ?
