Jays blow this one in the eighth but also lose Halladay to injury.

Jay v Marlins. Series opener of three.

Halladay pitching on his 10-1 record. Jays are 21-10 at home. Marlins are 14-14 on the road.
Lineups: Cito has had enough. Rios drops to number six today. Vernon moves up one to third. The problem is however with Vernon. I don’t agree putting him at third. Scutaro and Hill almost always get one or other on base, what we need at third is someone with more reliability than either Alex or Vernon to bring them in. I would move Lind up to third with Rolen behind him to prevent any semi-intentional pitching around Lind. Then perhaps Wells followed by Overbay and Rios although I might even put Alex at eight or nine. If he gets on then Scutaro or Hill have a chance moving him along. Let’s see what happens today.

Florida Marlins: Coghlan, Gload, Ramirez,Cantu,Hermida,Uggla,Baker, Ross, Bonifacio and Nolasco pitching
Toronto: Scutaro, Hill, Wells, Lind, Rolen, Rios, Overbay,Barajas, Inglett and Halladay pitching.

The good: Nothing much here today. Richmond in relief kept the game 2-2 until Jays self-destruct in the eighth.
The bad: Halladay’s injury. 2/11 RISP. Wells continues his horrible season, I hope he is not going to announce some undisclosed injury in October as he did in 2006 after similar disaster season.

Top 1st: Coghlan doubles to left a very soft liner over head of leaping Rolen at third.. Gload grounds to Overbay, Coghlan to third. Ramirez sac fly to Rios, Coghlan scores. 1-0 Marlins. When was the last time you saw Jays leadoff hitters do that? Long weekend in store for Jays watching this type of ball. Cito will never do this. Cantu grounds to Rolen on to Scutaro on to Overbay double play ball to rescue Halladay.
Bottom 1st: Scutaro singles to right. Hill fly ball to centre field Ross, Scutaro to second. Wells strikes out. Lind strikes out. And that about summaries Jays hitters especially Vernon.

Top 2nd: Hermida singles to centre. Uggla lines out to Inglett in left today. Baker grounds into a double play, pitcher Halladay to shortstop Scutaro to first baseman Overbay, Hermida out.
Bottom 2nd: Rolen fly ball to centre field Ross.Rios pops up to Ross. Overbay strikes out. Jays go very quietly, one, two, three.

Top 3rd: Ross grounds to Overbay flip to Halladay covering first. Bonifacio grounds to Hill throw to Overbay. Coghlan singles to right. Gload infield single to first, Coghlan to second. Ramirez infield single to second, Coghlan to third, Gload to second. Bases loaded with two down. Cantu grounds to Scutaro throw to Hill, Ramirez out at second.
Bottom 3rd: Barajas singles to left. Inglett sacrificing, Nolasco to first base Gload, Barajas to second. Scutaro strikes out. Hill grounds out to first base Gload.

Top 4th: Hermida at bat, Halladay stops and walks to back of mound, we have a problem. Here comes trainer George Poulis and Cito. That’s it for Halladay today, does not look happy at all as he walks off. Let’s hope this is not serious. Richmond now pitching. This should have been Richmond’s start but Jays want to keep Halladay on the five days rotation. Hermida strikes out. Uggla fly ball to Inglett. Baker full count and walks. Ross strikes out.
Bottom 4th: Wells strikes out. Lind fly ball to right field Hermida. Rolen fly ball to right field Hermida.

Top 5th: Bonifacio out bunting to Richmond on to Overbay. Coghlan singles to centre. Gload strikes out. Coghlan stealing, Barajas' throwing error, Coghlan goes all the way to third. Ramirez lines out to Wells.
Bottom 5th: Rios grounds to Ramirez but is able to beat out the throw, good hustle Alex. Overbay strikes out. Rios stealing and safe at second. About time Alex, but hard to steal if you are not on base I guess. Barajas strikes out. Two down. Rios going again stealing third and safe. Oh boy where has he been all season ? If he had been this aggressive he might have stayed out of a few of Vernon’s double plays. Inglett finally a hit, singles to centre, Rios scores.1-1. Scutaro, Inglett stealing and safe at second. 3-0 count to Scutaro, and walks on four pitches. Nolasco's wild pitch, Inglett to third.Nolasco having a rough time right now. Hill singles to left, Inglett scores. 2-1 game. This is Hill’s sixth hit in last eighteen at bats. Scutaro moves to second. Wells strikes out. Sorry Marco. But good to see some aggression here by Jays runners. Cito has to start to do this when hitters are in their collective depression.

Top 6th: Cantu pops up to Scutaro. Hermida walks. Uggla fly ball to right field Rios.Baker grounds to Rolen throw to Overbay.
Bottom 6th: Lind fly ball to Ross in centre. Rolen fly ball to Ross. Two down for Rios, strikes out.

Top 7th: Ross fly ball to Inglett. Bonifacio bunting, Richmond to Overbay. Coghlan singles to centre. Carlson now pitching. Gload singles to right, Coghlan to third. That’s it for Carlson, one guy only. Not sure whether Cito thinks that helps the relief pitchers but seems to forget they have to warm up each time and throw many pitches, and for two or three pitches in the game ?? League now pitching to Ramirez with two down. Ramirez singles to right, Coghlan scores, Gload to second. 2-2 Marlins. Cantu strikes out.
Bottom 7th: Meyer now pitching. Overbay grounds to first base Gload.Barajas fouls out to catcher Baker. Inglett strikes out.

Top 8th: Hermida doubles to centre off the glove of a leaping Wells, Vernon has no luck right now at all. Uggla full count and walks. Baker hit by a pitch on the knee as he tries to bunt. League not having much fun here. Needs to settle down. Hermida to third, Uggla to second. Bases loaded for Ross, there she goes home run to centre field, grand slam to Ross. 6-2 Marlins. Bonifacio grounds to Hill throw to Overbay, first out. Coghlan strikes out. Two down for Gload doubles to right. That’s it for League. Hayhurst pitching.Ramirez singleto right,Gload scores, 7-2 Marlins. Ramirez to second. Hayhurst wild pitch, Ramirez to third. Cantu grounds to Scutaro throw to Overbay. How to blow a game quickly.
Bottom 8th: Carroll in as right fielder. Hermida in as left fielder. Calero now pitching. Scutaro fly ball to left field Hermida. Hill singles to centre. Continues to have a great season. Wells pops up to Ross in centre, he must wish to have half the season that Hill is having. Lind grounds to first base Gload.

Top 9th: Hermida grounds to Hill throw to Overbay. Uggla pops up to Hill. Two down for Baker, strikes out.
Bottom 9th: Martinez pitching. Rolen singles to left. Rios doubles to left, Rolen to third. Two on and no outs, can they pull this out of the fire? Overbay strikes out. One down. Barajas grounds to Ramirez at short throw to Gload at first for the out. Two down but Rolen scores.7-3. Inglett pops to short Ramirez.

Jays lose another. But more importantly how is Halladay? Jays will be in deep trouble if he is lost. He is 10-1 and Jays are 10-3 in his starts and 24-25 with everyone else. He is first in the league in wins, and innings pitched. And in the top five with ERA, strikeouts, complete games and win percentage.
