Jays outplayed by Angels tonight, Janssen had nothing,

Toronto v Angels Game two of three.

Angels: Figgins, Abreu, Guerrero, Morales, Rivera, Izturis, Mathews jr. Mathis, Aybar and Weaver pitching.
Toronto: The usual but is it time Cito to make some changes ? Scutaro, Hill, Rios, Wells, Lind, Rolen, Overbay, Millar, Barajas and Janssen pitching.

The good: Not much in this one but young Adam Lind had a great game, three hits and even better hitting to both sides of the field. Good to see him back. Overbay also with a hit, Camp three scoreless innings and BJ with his one scireless one hit inning reduces his ERA. He will be happy.

The bad: The usual culprits but all over the lineup. Janssen was awful didn’t have anything, did not deserve a win but without runs was not likely to tonight. Jays 1/7 with runners in scoring position tonight.

The very bad: Vernon surely must be at the end of Cito’s very liberal and lengthy rope. Come on JP need to step in here. We have watched him now struggling for the last three seasons. One season injury excuse all season. Last season getting over the surgery and getting his timing ! back. This season ? His average is now .257 the lowest of all the starting lineup tonight. His on base percentage is the lowest his slugging percentage is the lowest, Come on Cito, this is number four, the cleanup guy, the fans are watching the same guy out there. Push him down the lineup or sit him. Forget egos. This weakness (stubborness ??) of yours will hurt any chances this team might have of playoff baseball. Terry Francona moved Ortiz in his slump, a far better hitter than Vernon, down to number six. And this is only a slump for this season not two and a half years.

Top 1st: Figgins singles to right. Abreu home run to centre. Three pitches two runs. Great start Casey ! Guerrero doubles to the wall in centre, Vernon may have had chance at that one.
Morales grounds to Hill throw to Overbay, Guerrero to third. Rivera sac fly to Rios Guerrero makes it 3-0 Angels and this is the first inning. Izturis grounds to Hill throw to Overbay to end a lousy start by Janssen.
Bottom 1st: Scutaro strikes out. Hill strikes out. Rios walked on a full count. Rios stole second. Wells strikes out. Weaver strikes out the side.

Top 2nd: Matthews Jr grounds to Hill throw to Overbay. One down. Mathis strikes out. Aybar fly ball to Wells.
Bottom 2nd: Lind strikes out. Rolen pops up to second base Izturis. Overbay strikes out.

Top 3rd: Figgins doubles to right. 2-2. Janssen already in trouble again, Abreu grounds to Hill to first baseman Overbay, Figgins to third. Guerrero 3-0 count and walks on four pitches. When did Vladdy ever walk on four pitches ??? Morales singles to left, Figgins scores, 4-0 Angels and this game is almost over. Guerrero to second. One down for Rivera fly ball to Wells. Izturis grounds back to Janssen throw to Overbay Jays have another uphill battle to get back in this one.
Bottom 3rd: Jays remain hitless. Millar fly ball to left field Rivera. Barajas fly ball to left field
Scutaro pops up to second base Izturis

Top 4th: Mathews strikes out. One down for Mathis. Janssen hits him on the shoulder, ball gets away. Aybar with one on and one down. Mathis stealing and great throw by Barajas to get him easily. Two down. Aybar doubles into right corner. Figgins for his third at bat already. Doubles into roight Aybar scores. 5-0 Angels and Jansen fooling no one tonight, however Jays bats are also silent which does not help him much. Abreu grounds to Hill throw to Overbay but damage is done here. Weaver coasting easily to a win and a no hitter tonight. Angels seven hits to zilch for Jays.
Bottom 4th: Hill Weaver has only thrown 39 pitches almost 40 fewer than Janssen. Hill pops up to Morales. One down for Rios the only guy to get on base and only through a walk. Grounds weakly to third throw to first for second out. Wells who continues his horrible season long slump. Swinging away at each pitch but no control or idea what he is doing right now. Strikes out swinging at a pitch down and away. Six strikeouts for Weaver and continues his no hitter.

Top 5th: That’s it for Janssen, he had nothing at all tonight. Camp now pitching. Guerrero strikes out swinging in his usual way. Morales strikes out swinging. Rivera strikes out. Gets the side. However the hitters may be too late to get back into this one, Weaver is well in control and in a very comfortable groove much like Halladay last night.
Bottom 5th: Lind doubles to centre. Finally Jays hitters get to Weaver but it took almost sixty pitches. Rolen fouling a few off here, strikes out. Could not move Lind to third. Overbay that will do it doubles into right field corner and Lind scores easily. 5-1 Angels. Millar only his second at bat tonight. Grounds to Figgins at third, throw to Morales at first, Lind has to hold. Barajas grounds it weakly to Weaver throw to Morales for third out. Very disappointing with runner at second and one out and could not move him. One of the Jays weaknesses in not being able to play small ball. With Weaver pitching the way he is their only prayer is that he will not last eight.

Top 6th: Izturis grounds to Overbay one down. Mathews double to left. Let’s see how Scioscia plays this. Camp not helping here 3-0 count and walks on four pitches, that was way outside. Aybar with two on one down, strikes out on a wicked pitch inside two down. Figgins 3-3 already, not this time, grounds to Hill throw to Overbay and no damage done here this inning.
Bottom 6th: Top of Jays order again. Have they learned anything about Weaver ? Scutaro showing bunt. strikes out. One down for Hill hitless tonight. but then he is just one of seven also hitless, swings wildly at one down and away and strikes out, not a good at bat Aaron. Rios with two down, strikes out swinging head in the air. Jays may regret not doing more damage in the fifth when they had the chance. 10 strikeouts for Weaver tonight, he is after Halladay’s performance last night.

Top 7th: Camp still out there. Abreu at bat, grounds to Overbay, one down. Guerrero singles to left. Morales high fly ball to Lind in left. Guerrero stays put. Rivera two down one on, fly ball to Lind in left to leave Guerrero stranded at first. Great long three innings scoreless relief here from Camp. Angels have had five doubles tonight.
Bottom 7th: Wells first pitch pop up to short, one down. Vernon is lucky Francona is not his manager, he would be hitting number nine by now. Lind, one of only two hits tonight there’s another double into right corner, Vernon you might learn something from this kid. Rolen with one down and one in scoring position at second. Weaver up to 92 pitches. Grounds hard to short throw to first two down and Lind cannot budge. Overbay also with one hit. Full count and walks. Jays have two on for first time tonight? But they need more than runners, they need runs. Millar with two on and two down. Kevin patient here taking two balls. Full count, is he taking? Runesr will be going. High fly ball to Mathews in centre Jays blow another opportunity and are running out of opportunities.

Top 8th: Will Weaver return ? Scioscia probably believes he can win this one with bullpen now. Crowd is moving out, they obviously agree. Carlson pitching, Izturis grounds to Scutaro at short, long throw not in time. One on for Mathews pops up to Wells in shallow centre. One down for Mathis lines it hard at Rolen, cannot handle it and both runners safe. That might have been double play. Ouch. That hurts. Aybar singles into centre run scores 6-1 Angels. Figgins at bat number five tonight, strikes out this time. Abreu doubles down the left line, two runs score. 8-1 Angels both managers argue. Not sure why Scioscia was out there, umpire had already ruled second run. Cito half hearted discussion whether ball was fair, we need some emotion here Cito get this team in gear. Guerrero golfs it to Rios in right.
Bottom 8th: The test of Jays now, will they roll over and give up? Scioscia giving them a chance no Weaver. Bulger now pitching. He just has to throw it down the middle with a seven run lead. Barajas pops up first pitch. Izturis almost collides with Aybar. Scutaro now. Singles into right. Hill grounds to third throw to second double play ball. Not Aaron’s finest night either.

Top 9th: Ryan pitching Rivera fly ball to Wells in centre, nice catch Vernon, would that your bat was as hot or even lukewarm. One down for Izturis full count, and strikes out, two down for singles into centre. Mathews grounds to Scutaro throw to Hill.
Bottom 9th: Let’s see what happens with the heart of the order of the best hitting (!) sometimes team. Arredondo pitching. Rios strikes out swinging wildly at pitch down and away, Angels know the book on Alex. Wells at bat, grounds first pitch to Izturis at second throw to Morales at first, no fight in our Vernon. Lind this is the guy who Cito should move up the order. Again Adam does it singles the other way this time into left. Another manager would move this kid up the order. Rolen now to atone for his error. No pops it up to first. Jays lose this one 8-1 and never looked as if they would get in the game from the first inning.

Jays are embarrassed tonight. Pitching and hitting.

We called Wolfe right last week , now sent to Vegas. Just not sharp the last two outings. Will be good to see Dirk Hayhurst, he was very good in spring training but then so was Jason Lane and we have Vernon instead.
