Game one Toronto v Minnesota Monday May 17, 2010
Tough team for Jays and with Eveland pitching and big bats of Mauer, Morneau and Cuddyer in the order this is a tough two game series for the Jays, everything will have to go right and already with Snider out of the lineup the injury big strikes again. Just as Travis was hitting so well. Is it ever thus with this team?
Nice crowd tonight, not as large as Sunday but into the game from the start.Roof is open again.
Lineups: Twins: Span, Hudson, Mauer, Morneau, Cuddyer, Kubel, Young, Harris, Punto.
Jays: Lewis, Hill, Lind, Wells, Overbay, Gonzalez, Bautista, Buck, Ruiz.
Top 1st: Span lines out to Gonzalez at short, one down. Hudson doubles to centre. Mauer strikes out. Morneau walks. Two on and one out. Cuddyer full count, and walks the bases loaded. Hudson to third, Morneau to second. Kubel grounds to Eveland throw to first baseman Overbay.
Bottom 1st: Lewis fly ball to Span in centre. Hill pops up to Punto at third, two down. Lind singles to left. Wells singles to centre, Lind to second. Overbay strikes out leaving two on.
Top 2nd: Young leading off aggressive first pitch swing home run to centre. 1-0 Twins. Harris fly ball to Wells in centre. Punto singles to right. Punto going and safe at second. Span grounds to Overbay throw to pitcher Eveland, Punto to third. Hudson fly ball to Wells in centre. But Twins are ahead.
Bottom 2nd: Gonzalez leading off singles to left. Bautista, patient here, full count and there she goes yet another home run for Jose, number eleven Here comes Gonzalez followed by Jose to give 2-1 lead for Jays, Buck singles to left. Wild pitch by Slowey, Buck to second. No one out for
Ruiz grounds to Hudson over to Morneau at first, one down. Buck to third. Lewis, strikes out. Two down. Hill fly ball to Young in left field.
Top 3rd: Mauer singles to centre. Morneau strikes out. Cuddyer fly ball to centre fielder Wells.
Kubel singled to right, Mauer to third. Young grounds to Overbay, steps on the bag for third out., unassisted.
Bottom 3rd: Lind fly ball to Young in left. Wells singles to centre. Overbay fly ball to Young in left.. Gonzalez pops up to Hudson at second.
Top 4th: Harris grounds to Gonzalez over to Overbay. One down. Punto grounds to Hill, throw to Overbay. Span doubles to right. Hudson singles to centre, here comes Span, 2-2 game.
Mauer grounds to second, Hudson to third. Morneau, singles to right Hudson scores, Mauer to third. Cuddyer, ground to cahort but Bautista cuts in front and throw to Overbay, drops the ball, runner safe but her comes Mauer to take advantage and score. Morneau to second. Overbay throws to third to get Mornaeau but throw is wild, that is two errors on the pay by Gonzalez.
Eveland wild pitch, nothing go right this inning, Cuddyer to third. Kubel full count and walks.
Young grounds to short, Gonzalez, to second base Hill, Kubel out.
Bottom 4th: Bautista grounds back to Slowey throw to Morneau for the first out. Buck pops out to Cuddyer. Two down. Ruiz grounds to second Hudson to first baseman Morneau.
Top 5th: Harris 3-0 and walks on four pitches. That’s it for Eveland, Cito I think you have decided that before the inning started ??? Rommie Lewis now pitching. Punto strikes out. Span lines to Bautista throw to Overbay, Harris out. Double play ball. Very nice.
Bottom 5th: Lewis singles to right. Hill fly ball to Young in left field, one down. Lind grounds to Hudson at second, throw to Morneau, Lewis to second. Wells, singles to centre, here comes Lewis and 5-3 Jays Overbay fly ball to Young in left..
Top 6th: Hudson lines out to Lewis in right field. One down for Mauer, grounds to Bautista at third base throw to Overbay at first. Two down. Morneau, gets hold of this one, home run to right, huge hit. 6-3 Twins. How many fans watching this are wishing Morneau had a Jays shirt on at first base. Cuddyer 3-0 and walks on four pitches. Kubel strikes out.
Bottom 6th: Burnett pitching. (not the guy in New York) Gonzalez singles to right. Bautista grounds, Hudson at second to Morneau at first base. Gonzalez out. Buck 3-0 and walks on four pitches. Ruiz grounds to Harris at short, throw to second, Hudson, Buck out to end the inning.
Top 7th: Camp now pitching. Young grounds Gonzalez at short, throw to Overbay at first for the first out. Harris grounds to Bautista at third, throw to Overbay at first, two down. Punto with two down, grounds hard back at Camp, great save by Camp. Throw to Overbay for the out..
Bottom 7th: Lewis grounds to Hudson at second throw to Morneau at first for the out. Hill lines out to Hudson at second base. Lind singles to centre. Wells grounds back to Burnett throw to Morneau at first base.
Top 8th: Span bunting ??? Very strange. Buck good throw to Overbay. One down but not sure about that giveaway bunt. Hudson grounds to Hill throw to Overbay at first. Mauer singles to right. Morneau, here we go again, another home run and on the first pitch. Here comes Mauer followed by Morneau. 8-3 Twins. Cuddyer fly ball to Wells in centre.
Bottom 8th: Casilla in at shortstop. Guerrier now pitching. Overbay leading off, strikes out. Gonzalez strikes out. Bautista grounds to Casilla throw to Morneau at first base.
Top 9th: Roenicke pitching. Kubel fly ball to Lewis in right. Young fly ball to Wells in centre, Casilla fly ball to Wells in centre.
Bottom 9th: Crain pitching. Jays need five. Hmmm. Buck strikes out. Ruiz grounds to third, safe at first base. One on for Lewis fly ball to Span in centre. Passed ball, Ruiz to second. Hill grounds to Casilla throw to Morneau at first base.
The very good tonight: Bautista another home run. Vernon 3-4.
The very bad: Has to be Overbay. Two errors given but there were two other reachable plays not made. Hill and Overbay hitless. Jays 1/6 with runners in scoring position.
Jays eleven hits but only three runs. Lots of singles.
