Chicago: Pierre, Beckham, Jones, Rios, Quentin, Ramirez, Castro, Kotsay, Nix. Interesting Rios playing clean up. Has also stolen nine bases. Let’s see how he does against his old club this weekend.
Pitching: Eveland v Danks
Top 1st: Lewis leading off, singles to centre. Hill walks, two on and no outs. Lind lines out to Rios in centre, one down. Wells, Lewis stealing thrown out at third. Two down. Wells strikes out. Promising start but maybe a little too aggressive there.
Bottom 1st: Pierre, grounds to Gonzalez, safe on throw, this guy is fast and this guy steals. Beckham with one on. Strikes out, one down. For Jones. Grounds to third Bautista throw to hill at second to get Pierre, two down Jones safe at first. Here comes the bad guy. Rios with two down and one on. Lines out to Lewis in left to end the inning.
Top 2nd: Overbay, singles to centre, good start Lyle. This team needs you to start getting that bat going. Gonzalez. Pops up to Ramirez at short, Bautista grounds to short on to second on to first double play ball. Jays have had too many of these in last couple of games, three yesterday.
Bottom 2nd: Quentin grounds to Gonzalez at short, error on the throw. Ramirez fly ball to Wells in centre. Castro, same play, fly ball to Wells in shallow centre two down for Kotsay. Lines it to the wall in center, great catch Vernon up against that fence.
Top 3rd: Buck leading off strikes out. Snider grounds to second beats the throw, Beckham’s throw wild and Travis goes to second on the play error to Beckham. Lewis grounds back to Danks throw to first Kotsay for the out. Two down for Hill, pops up to Kotsay at first. Snider left out there.
Bottom 3rd: Nix full count and walks. One on for Pierre strikes out, wild pitch by Eveland, Nix to second. Beckham strikes out. Two down walks, Rios with two on, pops it up to Overbay at first for third out. Eveland escapes trouble.
Top 4th: Lind fly ball to Pierre in left field. Wells singles to centre. Overbay strikes out. Gonzalez grounds to Beckham at second throw to Kotsay at first.
Bottom 4th: Quentin, grounds to Bautista, throw to Overbay for first out. Ramirez singles to centre, Castro with one on and one down, got him, nice throw by Buck to get Ramirez, two down, Castro. walks Kotsay grounds to Overbay steps on first for third out.
Top 5th: Bautista pops up to Beckham at second base, one down. Buck singles to centre. Snider, very nice Travis, doubles to right, Buck to third. Lewis doubles to centre, here comes Buck, here comes Travis 2-0 Jays. Hill lines out to left field Pierre, two down. Lind, strikes out the ball gets away but throw to first to get him. But Jays have taken the lead.
Top 6th: Wells singles to left. One on for Overbay fly ball to Pierre in left field. Gonzalez pops up Ramirez at short.
Bottom 6th: Jones lines out to Hill at second. Rios pops up to Hill. Quentin, two down, pops up to Hill for third out. Aaron a busy guy.
Top 7th: Danks on 89 pitches. Could be his last inning. Buck, 2-2 count, strikes out. Snider 2-2 double and a single tonight. .213 average as well full count here. 100 pitches for Danks. Travis takes it down and walks, nice at bat Travis. Lewis now also a double and a single. Aaaah Travis going and picked off there at second. Misread the pitcher’s move there. Two down Fred strikes out looking.
Bottom 7th: This inning might be it for Eveland as well. 82 pitches. Ramirez, 3-0 and walks on four pitches, Eveland tiring here? there’s a strike. Camp up in bullpen. Grounds to Gonzalez, on to Hill at second over to Overbay for double play ball. Perfect for Eveland. Kotsay grounds back to Eveland, off his glove to Bautista nice barehand play to Overbay for third out.
Top 8th: Top of Jays order have to get another here at least one. Sergio Santos now pitching so no win tonight for Danks. Hill, hitless tonight and grounds to short, throw to first for the out and will stay hitless. Lind, one down. 0-3 tonight. Strikes out. Wells, 2-3 two singles. Strikes out this time.
Bottom 8th: Will it be Eveland or Camp? Neither, Downs to set up for Gregg. Eveland did his job. Nix, leading off Downs pitching. Nix pops up to Hill at second. Pierre grounds to Bautista at third throw to Overbay at first. Beckham with two down, strikes out. Nice work Scott.
Top 9th: Can Jays add to this here? Pena now pitching. Overbay leading off, grounds to second shatters bat but fumbled by Beckham and throw not in time Lyle safe at first. Error on play. Now can Jays capitalize here? Oh very nice play, Gonzalez grounds it up the middle but Ramirez nice grab flip to Beckham at second over to first for double play. Bautista doubles to the wall. Not over yet. Buck grounds to short another nice play by Ramirez to save a single here and throw to first for third out. All down to Gregg now.
Bottom 9th: Gregg pitching Jones leading off. Lines it out to Lewis in left, Fred looked as if he could not see it there in lights. One down for Rios, 0-3 tonight. No…. pops it up and Gonzalez off his glove, drops it that was ugly. Rios at second. No error ?? Hometown scorer gives Rios a double. No way. It was off his glove, he had the catch. Quentin at bat, strikes out. Ramirez, two down and Rios at second. 3-1 count. Full count, strikes out. Jays win the opener here. Eveland goes to 3-1 and well deserved win tonight. Save number eight for Gregg.
The excellent: Eveland did a great job for seven holding this team to two hits.
The very good: Gregg eight for eight saves. Downs did his job in the eighth setting up for Gregg.
The good: Lewis with the all important two RBI double as the only runs in this game. Young Snider continuing his comeback with two more hits a run and a walk.
The bad: Runners in scoring position again 1/7. Giving up two more double plays tonight to go with the three in Cleveland yesterday, becoming a bad habit...
