Jays hit rock-bottom with an all-round terrible performance.

Jays v Red Sox. Game two of three Tuesday May 11.

This day starts badly with the news that the series against the Phillies is being moved to Philadelphia because of the G20 meeting security. This would have been a huge series for Jays and the fans would have been out to see return of Halladay pitching against his old club. It might have been one of the biggest crowds of the season.
Boston must love playing the Jays, 4-0 now on the season dominating them each time. Despite not playing at their best.

Lineups: Toronto: Lewis, Hill, Lind, Wells, Overbay, Gonzalez, Bautista, Buck, Snider.
Boston: Scutaro, Pedroia, Drew, Youkilis, Lowell, Beltre, Varitek ,Hall, McDonald.
Pitching: Eveland v Matsuzaka

Top 1st: Lewis strikes out looking. One down for Hill, Cito leaving Aaron in to sort his slump out, as with Overbay? full count, pops it up to Pedroia behind second, two down for Lind another one slumping. In fact it is the bottom of the order who have been coming through recently plus Fred Lewis. Strikes out. Three up and down for Dice-K.
Bottom 1st: Eveland pitching. Scutaro, 3-1 walks him. Jays pitchers continue their walk parade. One on for Pedroia.2-0 count, pops it up to shallow right and into stands, ground rule double, no chance for Snider, two in scoring position, no one out, just like last night. Drew. 3-1 in danger of loading the bases with no outs. Grounds to Overbay at first, run Scutaro scores 1-0 Boston. One down. Pedroia at third with one down. Youkilis full count, fly ball to Snider, enough for Pedroia to tag and come home on the throw. 2-0 Boston, déjà vu last night. Two down for Lowell. Pops it up to Overbay at first to end the agony for this inning at least.

Top 2nd: Wells leading off. Takes strike one. Lines it to Drew in right field, one down. Overbay, .172 average. Fly ball to right centre McDonald and Drew collide. McDonald hangs on to it for the out. Jays cannot even get a break on that. Two down. Gonzalez, Lines it to Drew in right field. This is going to be another one of those nights. Six up six down and no problem for Red Sox tonight. Only 28 pitches for Matsuzaka perfect game so far for him.
Bottom 2nd: Beltre, grounds to Gonzalez, throw to Overbay for the out. One down for Varitek. Over the Green Monster, home run to Varitek, 3-0 Boston. Hall, strikes out. Two down. McDonald. Fly ball to Snider for third out but Boston add another and right now Jays do not look as if they are competing here tonight. 38 pitches for Eveland.

Top 3rd: Is three runs enough for Dice-K now? Probably, he has a comfortable lead. He can just throw strikes. Bottom of Jays order. Bautista strikes out on high pitch. Many opposing pitchers are doing this now to Jays hitters, an automatic out. Buck, grounds to short, long throw wide and not in time to get Buck, Jays break up the perfect game with first hit. Snider. Come on Travis we need a moon shot from you here. Strikes out swinging. Lewis with two down and one on. High pitch strike out. Jays hitters tonight are all at sea with Matsuzaka.
Bottom 3rd: Scutaro leading off, he has rented out that first base so far this series. Full count. Walks him again. It would be interesting but depressing to check how many walks Jays pitchers have given up in the last week. One on for Pedroia, 2-0 count.3-0. Walks another. That’s three tonight. Buck talking to him but this is not good. Two on and again no outs, for Drew. Strikes out, one down. Youkilis, Hits him bases loaded, for Lowell. It just gets worse and worse with the Jays pitching staff right now. The very worst time to go south. 2-0 here we go again. Grounds to Gonzalez, to Hill over to Overbay, double play with ease to end this inning. Eveland escapes big time here thanks to his defense. But Jays still need runs. 65 pitches for Eveland in three innings.

Top 4th: Hill, at .188 full count strikes out looking. Aaron you can’t afford that luxury with an average like that. Lind even worse, pops up first pitch to Scutaro at short, two down. Wells, 0-2, lines it to Drew in right field for third out. Another three up and down for Matsuzaka.
Hill, Lind, Wells and Overbay have yet to have even one hit between them in last two games. That is ridiculous.
Bottom 4th: Beltre, grounds to Bautista at third throw to Overbay for first out. Varitek home run last at bat, singles into left through Bautista who was trying to avoid shattered bat, Nothing going right for Jays. One on one down for Hall. 3-0 count. OH BOY pops it up to shallow centre, ball drops, I rest my case, this is becoming sheer farce out there. Jays looking like bush league. two on one down. Error to Wells but am not sure about that one. Gonzalez was closer and Hill just backed off. I can understand Aaron with his concussion history. McDonald doubles in to left field corner Varitek scores 4-0 Boston. Runners at second and third. Scutaro 2-0 Eveland unable to throw Marco strikes in three at bats, grounds to Gonzalez throw to Overbay two down. Pedroia. Another full count. Grounds to Hill, fumbles the ball but recovers to just get runner to end this awful exhibition out there. 91 pitches for Eveland, Bullpen will be busy again tonight, probably call on Camp for two.

Top 5th: Jays have to forget that sandlot showing and get some runs. Too late for Eveland tonight but he cannot blame his teammates; he has not pitched well at all. Overbay leading off, full count. Watch the high pitch Lyle. Grounds to first throw to Matsuzaka for the out. Gonzalez, pops up to Scutaro two down. Jays going meekly into the night here. No fight at all. Bautista full count. Strikes out swinging. I think Cito will make some changes for tomorrow day game. Hill, Lind and Overbay might be sitting. McDonald, McCoy and Ruiz will probably get a chance; they certainly cannot do worse than this lot fright now. This is a very important series and hitting, pitching and defense have all fallen apart.
Bottom 5th: Eveland but for how long? Drew, perfect bunt, no chance of even a throw. One on for Youkilis. I wonder if any of the Jays hitters saw that. When was their last bunt? Full count. 100 pitches for Eveland 50/50. Yes Camp warming up. Way outside not even close, Walks him number four. Where is Waldo? sitting in dugout. Eveland out there for a little longer, Two on no outs. What? One pitch and now Cito. I guess Camp was not ready. Yet another snafu. One good thing is that Jays have a day off on Thursday, if they get swept here which looks increasingly likely at least they can regroup, bullpen can start again. Camp to go with one ball against Lowell. Morrow cannot get out of second inning, Eveland not out of the fourth. Full count. Walks him bases loaded no outs, Beltre, wild pitch run scores, Well we haven’t see that tonight. Another full count. Beltre strikes out. One down for Varitek, putting him on. Bases loaded again for Hall. Grounds up the middle, Gonzalez to Hill drops the ball, Another way to give up a run. 6-0 Boston two down for McDonald. I think Hill may get more than one day off this week he is just awful out there and at bat. Grounds to Bautista throw to second for the third out. Relief.

Top 6th: Are Jays going to show some fight here or are they finished tonight? Buck doubles to left corner, first time a Jay has REACHED second tonight, WOW. Snider, wild pitch Buck to third, keep them coming Dice-K. This is only second at bat for Travis??? two hours into the game. Strikes out. Lewis. Fouling them off here at least. Full count. way to go Fred doubles high off the wall in left centre, great at bat. 6-1. Hill now needs a lot to amend for tonight. Pops it up to first. Two down. Put him out of his misery Cito now, put Johnny Mc. or McCoy at second. Lind with Lewis at second. This is a guy who should love this situation but like Hill last season was evidently an aberration evidently. Strikes out leaving Lewis at second.
Bottom 6th: Scutaro leading of again, his fourth at bat, Snider just had his second. Pops it up to Overbay, at least that didn’t drop. One down. for Pedroia. What happened there? pitch almost reached first base. Wild, wild by Camp. 1-2 count. grounds to Gonzalez throw to Overbay two down. Drew, walks. Youkilis, stealing second at 6-1 ??? Francona is giving far too much credit to Jays hitters. But that really is rubbing it in here. I think Cito might well file that one away for payback when and if Jays ever get a big score going against Red Sox. Throw in time but Aaron drops it. Youkilis walks. Two on two down for Lowell. Janssen warming up. Bullpen really in a mess right now. They have had to fill in seven last night and at least five tonight. Lines it at Gonzalez for third out, but Campo makes very heavy work of it after getting two quick outs.

Top 7th: Wells leading off, another bad night for Vernon. Pops this one up to shallow right for Pedroia. 0-3 night Vernon. Overbay, ditto night so far. In fact apart from Buck and Lewis no one has done anything. Ramirez warming up in Boston bullpen. Lazy swing by Lyle pops this one up to shallow left for second out. Once again the big bats of Hill, Lind, Wells and Overbay are hitless for the second game in a row. How bad is that? Gonzalez, grounds to third throw to first for third out.
Bottom 7th: Janssen pitching. Beltre leading off. Strikes out swinging. One down for Varitek, full count. Okajima warming up Varitek strikes out. Two down for Hall, strikes out. Janssen strikes out the side. The first three up and down inning for Boston hitters but I have a feeling that they are thinking about night on the town celebrating right now.

Top 8th: That’s it for Matsuzaka, Jays hitters made him look like Cy Young. Ramirez pitching. will it make any difference? Bautista leading off. Grounds to third throw to first for the out. One down for Buck takes strike three. Two down for Snider. Walks, good at bat Travis. One on for Lewis. Way to go Fred, singles into right, makes it look so easy. Two on for Hill, will Cito pinch hit for him?? Not a chance. Grounds to third throw to first for third out. Cito’s loyalty is misplaced far too many times.
Bottom 8th: Frasor to finish this off for Boston innings at least. Lots of empty seats. McDonald. Strikes out on three pitches. Scutaro, for the fifth time !!! grounds back to Frasor, throw to first for easy out. Marco showing some pity here for his old team? Two down. Pedroia singles up the middle. Drew singles to left. Two on two down for Youkilis. Van Every pinch running for Drew ??? Francona still not convinced a five run lead is enough ??? grounds to Gonzalez flip to Hill for the third out.

Top 9th: Will Jays fold their tent here and go quietly into the night? Tomorrow they are fighting off a sweep here and on first two games showing that is real possibility especially with third place in as a prize. Okajima pitching. Lind leading off. Hitless in two nights. 2-2 count. Lind getting batting practice here fouling them off, strikes out on high pitch…..One down for Wells, a nigh he wants to forget. Does not like the calls too high too low. I tend to agree with Vernon this time. Lashes this one right back at Okajima, puts his glove out to protect himself and balls stick in it, that kind of night Vernon. Overbay lines one right at Beltre at third, and another “hit glove” play but that is how it goes some nights others those hits by Vernon and Lyle find the gaps.

Jays lose a stinker 6-1. Outplayed in every category. Cito must have a lot of concern for the lineup from 2-6 right now another hitless game for them all. They may well score 20 tomorrow but Cito would prefer to see some consistency every game.

Brooms are out tomorrow for the Jays. Let’s hope the Jays have got all the garbage out of their systems and come out fighting. They will be praying for a Marcum special as the bullpen is beaten up badly. However they are facing Wakefield and if their hitting strokes were off before they will definitely be if he is on form tomorrow.

The good: Has to be Lewis and Buck who had two hits each and the only hits for this team tonight. Lewis goes to both fields as well with his two hits,

The bad: Where do I start? Pitching, defense and hitting all round awful. The whole lineup apart from Buck and Lewis. Eveland set the tone with a terrible outing. Starts with a walk and has four but then so did Camp for a total of eight tonight, even more than last night. Both Camp and Eveland threw more balls than strikes, that is hard to do.
Add in the dropped ball by Hill, fumbles by Hill, wild pitch, dropped ball by Wells, 8! more walks, 1/5 with runners in scoring position. They were fortunate that Boston was even worse with 1/11 with runners in scoring position.
Let's hope that they have goit it all out of their system in that game, everythign that could go wrong did.
