Lewis-Snider show sparks dramatic comeback win for Jays

White Sox-Jays series finale.

Lineups: Jays: Lewis, Hill, Lind, Wells, Ruiz, Gonzalez, Bautista, Snider, Molina.
White Sox: Pierre, Beckham, Jones, Konerko, Rios, Quentin, Ramirez, Castro, Nix.

Pitching: Floyd v Romero

Well Cito finally sits Overbay. Rest day Cito ? Issue is not just Lyle’s lousy hitting but hitting behind Wells that he is not protecting Vernon and Vernon was getting far fewer pitches as teams pitched around him to get to Overbay, look at the number of walks Vernon had in the last two weeks.

Top 1st: Lewis now hitting .300 not bad at all for leadoff. Strikes out, Hill strikes out, Lind fly ball to Quentin in right.
Bottom 1st: Pierre hammers it back to Romero great leaping catch to get him, highlight reel. Ricky is an excellent fielder but can get in to trouble sometimes using his bare hand and going for plays he should leave for his infielders, Beckham strikes out, two down, Jones singles into shallow right. Konerko Jones stealing and safe at second, strikes out wicked pitch inside.

Top 2nd: Wells leading off gets hold of this one and hammers it to the wall just misses going out in left centre, double for Vernon. Ruiz getting start at first, good move Cito. Strikes out here but then so did Lyle too many times. Gonzalez, 10 home ruins now, wow. Fly ball to centre, Vernon tags and goes to third, two down for Bautista, this will do, Jose lofts one into shallow right, Quentin makes a diving attempt but ball gets past him, Vernon scores and Jose at second on the play, 1-0 Jays. Snider, grounds to Beckham at second, throw to Konerko for third out but at least Jays did not waste Vernon’s leadoff double.
Bottom 2nd: Rios leading off singles roller up the middle. Quentin singles into left. Two on no outs Ricky in trouble here. Watch for the double steal here Ricky. Ramirez. Wild pitch instead that settles that dilemma but deeper in the mess. Strikes out in the dirt, high danger pitch though. One down two on, Castro, 3-0, come on Ricky. Walks on four but that may have been semi deliberate looking at Molina’s glove outside. Nix with double play in order now. Bases loaded but not like that, Nix singles into shallow centre, run scores and bases still loaded. 1-1. Oh boy Pierre singles into left, another run scores and bases remain loaded. 2-1 White Sox. Beckham grounds to third throw to first for second out run scores, 3-1 White Sox. This is not over yet Ricky. Jones, with two in scoring position. Grounds to third throw to first for the out but not before Romero self-destructs here and pushes his pitch count to 42 !!! After only two innings. . Another bad meltdown by Jays pitcher and a hole to climb out of for the hitters.

Top 3rd: Molina hit on his elbow, one way to get runners, Jays need all the help they can get right now. Lewis pops up to third, one down. Hill, at .178 OUCH Aaron, what IS the problem? Swinging at pitches outside like that is one. That’s better doubles into left field corner, unfortunately it is Molina ahead of him and third is all he can make. Speed oh for speed. Lind, now can he do something? Two in scoring position and only one out. That’s better singles into left here comes Molina, here comes Aaron a yard behind him !!! almost overtakes him, but Jays have tied it up 3-3. Wells at bat, YEAH Vernon, gets hold of this one Floyd leaves one up and two run home run into left field seats is the result. Four runs on two hits, that will do it anyday. 5-3 Jays. Ruiz gets hold of this one but high fly ball out to left centre. Two down for Gonzalez, strikes out wild swing at ball outside. 57 pitches for Floyd and two he would like back.
Bottom 3rd: Ricky has another life here. Konerko leading off. Walks, one on for bad boy Rios. Singles to left, is it my imagination or has Rios put on a lot of weight??? Quentin, wild pitch, runners move up, Quentin walks, bases loaded. Ramirez 3-0, Camp up in bullpen. Full count, Grounds to Gonzalez, thro to Hill over to Ruiz double play but Konerko scores 5-4 White Sox. Castro strikes out swinging. But White Sox have taken the lead.

Top 4th: Bautista strikes out swinging Snider strikes out swinging, two down for Molina strikes out looking. Good inning for Floyd.
Bottom 4th: Nix leading off walks, Pierre fly ball to Lewis in left, one down for Beckham, wild pitch and Nix moves into scoring position at second, Beckham strikes out swinging two down for Jones, fly ball to centre Wells, for third out.

Top 5th: Lewis leading off grounds back to pitcher Floyd, throw to Konerko art first for first out, Hill, hit by pitch, one on for Lind walks, two on one down for Wells, grounds to Nix, Beckham Konerko double play ball.
Bottom 5th: Konerko strikes out swinging, Rios doubles to Lewis in left, Quentin grounds to third Bautista throw to Ruiz at first, two down. Ramirez grounds to Gonzalez, throw to Ruiz at first for third out. Good inning for Romero but pitch count far too high.

Top 6th: Ruiz, pops up to Beckham at second, one down. Gonzalez, lines out to Nix at third, two down for Bautista grounds to Nix throw to Konerko for third out. Jays going quietly after that early run scoring.
Bottom 6th: Romero still in there. I thought Cito was limiting pitch count of younger pitchers? Castro strikes out swinging, Nix walks. Pierre singles to left, Nix to second, that is it for Romero. Far too wild today with the wild pitches and walks. That’s it for Ricky, here comes Cito, 110 pitches but five walks to go with the seven strikeouts and five hits. Camp now pitching. Beckham fly ball to Wells, two down. Jones strikes out looking.

Top 7th: Snider grounds to Beckham at second, throw to Konerko at first for the out. Molina walks, here comes the manager, that’s it for Floyd, Ozzie going to Thornton. Pinch runner for Molina at first, Mike McCoy. Lewis strikes out looking. Two down for Hill. McCoy going and beats throw at second, Aaron walks. Two on with one out. Lind, strikes out swinging.
Bottom 7th: Buck now catching Konerko grounds to Gonzalez at short, throw to Konerko for the out at first, one down for our friend Rios. Oh NO, not again, Rios home run to left, 5-4 White Sox. What has this guy done to change so much in the last year? Quentin doubles to Lewis. Ramirez intentional walk. Pierzynski pinch hitting. Here comes Cito. That’s it for Camp. Downs to stop the bleeding. Grounds to Ruiz at first flips to Downs, for the out but Ramirez moves up to second. Two in scoring position. Nix walks here comes Quentin, 5-5 game bases still loaded. That intentional walk may come back to haunt the Jays here. Pierre, oh no hit by pitch, that just grazed his sleeve but it counts, and here comes Quentin to score. 6-5 White Sox. Bases still loaded. Beckham strikes out swinging. Could have been a lot worse but Jays have big battle ahead for last six outs.

Top 8th: Pena replaces Thornton. Wells, singles to Ramirez at short, Vernon safe at first. Ruiz with one on, strikes out swinging. Gonzalez, pops up to Konerko. Bautista, grounds to Beckham at second Vernon out at second to end the inning.
Bottom 8th: Oh oh…. Here comes Frasor, let’s hope he has A game today and can keep it at a one run game. Jones strikes out looking. One down Jones does not like that call and is debating it with the home plate umpire, good luck. Konerko strikes out swinging two down. Rios, walks, Jays just cannot get this guy out. One on two down. Quentin lines it to Vernon in centre, makes a dive for the ball but gets past him and here comes Rios 7-5 White Sox, that extra run may be just too much for Jays now in the ninth with Jenks warming up in bullpen. Jenks 5/5 saves this season. Ramirez, grounds to Bautista at third, throw to Ruiz at first for the out but Jays now have a two run deficit.

Top 9th: Two run deficit and Jenks now pitching. Snider leading off, YES Travis, lines this one to left centre bounces over the wall, ground rule double, great start. Buck singles to Quentin in left. Travis moves up to third. Two on for Lewis, base hit is fine Fred. WOWEEE Fred turns on this no question at all high into right field seats home run, here comes Travbis, here comes Buc and here comes manof the hoiur Lews dof third run. Jays take the lead!!! 8-7 Jays. Listen to the crowd, loud booing and quite rightly, White Sox had this one in the bag. Three successive hits of Jenks and furs blown save in six attempts. Not over yet no one is out !!! Hill singles to left, four successive hits. Ozzie must be wondering what hit them. Manager out there to talk to shell shocked Jenks. That’s it for his night. Linebrink now pitching, one on no outs and a one run deficit. Lind to Ramirez to LInebrink error on the play, Lind on first. Wells grounds back to Linebrink throw to second to get Lind, Hill to third and first out for White Sox. One down Overbay pinch hitting for Ruiz. Pops it up to catcher Pierzynski for second out. Lyle just cannot buy a hit can he? Hill stays at third. Gonzalez, yes Alex, singles to left here comes Hill, another run and Jays have a two run lead 9-7 Jays. Gregg is working in bullpen, probably did not expect to get in here today. Bautista walks, bases loaded. Can Jays break this wide open here, four runs already. Snider who started this comeback leading off the inning, great chance here Travis, strikes out swinging, no way he was going to take strike three. But Jays have roared back once again in the ninth and another comeback. Can Gregg hold this? He blew his last save opportunity.
Bottom 9th: Overbay stays at first. Pierzynski leading off, strikes out, one down for Kotsay pinch hitting for Nix. Grounds to Hill throw to Overbay two down. Pierre grounds to Hill throw to Overbay for third out and another improbable comeback win for Jays.

Jays win big 9-7.

The excellent: Fred Lewis for the three run home run in the top of the ninth but also young Snider for the lead off double.

The very good: Wells two RBI home run in the third to get Jays back in it and his three hits today and now .339 average. Hill another two hits and a walk and hit by pitch. Let’s hope that Aaron is back. Gregg save number nine. It would have been awful fore him to have blown this one.

Jays head into Boston on a high and a 6-1 road trip. Boston playing Yankees tonight let’s hope they have along extra innings game use up all their bullpen and lose in the 15th at 1.00 a.m.
The not so good: 5/13 with runners in scoring position. Romero five walks and untidy outing.
ON TO FENWAY….

Footnote: Janssen and his second inning of work after blowing it bigtime last night. The major difference was not Janssen throwing strikes but rather the White Sox swinging at the pitches. In the previous inning they had just stood and watched without swinging. Only three strikes out of 18 pitches.
