Jays finally beat Red Sox with excellence from Marcum and Snider

Toronto v Boston. Wednesday May 12.

Final game of series a must win for Jays. They are now 0-5 this season against this team and that is definitely flattering the Red Sox.
Difference in two records Jays 19-16 Red Sox 18-16.
Win for Jays takes them to 20-16 and Red Sox 18-17
Win for Red Sox 19-16 and Jays 19-17 and fourth spot.

Cito listened last night. Hill and Lind both out of lineup. Good move Cito. I would have added Overbay.
Lineups: Toronto: Lewis, Gonzalez, Ruiz, Wells, Overbay, Bautista, Snider, McDonald, Molina.
Boston: Scutaro, Pedroia, Martinez, Youkilis, Drew, Ortiz, Bektre, Hermida, Van Every.
Pitching: Marcum v Wakefield. If nothing else we will not see seven or eight walks today from starting pitcher. But seriously bullpen needs a break and a long outing will give them two days off for Texas series.

Top 1st: Lewis grounds to Youkilis at first flip to Wakefield for first out. Gonzalez playing second today in place of Hill, pops up to Hermida in left. Two down. Ruiz getting a rare start but not at first, DH today. fly ball to Van Every in centre. Jays go quickly and quietly.
Bottom 1st: Scutaro fly ball to Wells in centre. That makes a change not to see Scutaro walk and get on first base the way he has been doing so far. One down for Pedroia, grounds to Johnny Mc. throw to Overbay at first. Two down for Martinez, grounds to Gonzalez at short, throw to Overbay at first for three up and down inning. Nice start Shawn.

Top 2nd: Wells leading off, Vernon in just the same slump as the other big bats. Fly ball to centre Van Every. Overbay with one down, strikes out. Two down for Bautista, grounds to Scutaro to first baseman Youkilis.
Bottom 2nd: Youkilis leading off and walks, first base runner for Boston today. Drew strikes out. Ortiz singles to centre, Youkilis to third. Two on, one down for Beltre, fly ball to Wells in centre.. Hermida popped out to second baseman Jo.McDonald

Top 3rd: Snider grounds to Youkilis at first for the out. Johnny Mc., strikes out. Molina singles to left. Keeps the inning alive with two down. Lewis fouls out to Martinez.
Bottom 3rd: Van Every leading off, strikes out. One down for Scutaro, grounds back to Marcum throw to first Overbay. Two down. Pedroia hit by a pitch. Martinez fly ball to Wells in centre for third out.

Top 4th: Gonzalez leading off grounds to Beltre at third, throws to first Yukilis. Ruiz fly ball to Van Every. Wells with two down, strikes out.
Bottom 4th: Youkilis leading off grounds to Gonzalez at short, throw to Overbay. One down.Drew, with one down strikes out. Ortiz two down, he strikes out. Nice pitching Shawn.

Top 5th: Overbay leading off, that’s the way Lyle, doubles to centre. Finally a hit. Bautista fly ball to Drew in right. One down one in scoring position for Snider. Way to go Travis, another double this time to right. Here comes Lyle to score, when did he last score a run? 1-0 Jays.Jays draw first blood and the way these two are pitching this afternoon this run is important. Johnny Mc with Snider at second and only one down, grounds back to Wakefield throw to Youkilis at first for second out. Snider gets to third on the play. Molina pops up to Youkilis at first. Travis left out there but he is the hero for now with that first run.
Bottom 5th: Beltre strikes out. Hermida fly ball to Wells in centre, one down. Van Every pops up to Bautista at third.

Top 6th: Lewis leading off grounds to Youkilis flip to Wakefield. One down for Gonzalez pops up to Martinez behind the plate. Ruiz, with two down, here we go Randy, doubles to left. Wells with a runner in scoring position. Wild pitch by Wakefield, Ruiz moves up to third. Vernon strikes out.
Bottom 6th: Scutaro pops up to Bautista at third. Pedroia strikes out. Martinez grounds back to Marcum throw to Overbay for third out. Marcum 91pitches. Should be able to go seven and that will be huge for the bullpen after last two games.

Top 7th: Bautista full count and walks, Snider, way to go Travis, gets hold of this and into Jays bullpen in right field 3-0 Jays. Just over that low wall. A bullet Travis shot with one hand. Would have been a double in most ball parks but that low wall gives Jays a break for a change.. McDonald, 100 pitches now for Wakefield. McDonald strikes out swinging. Molina lines first pitch into centre for third out.
Bottom 7th: Jays have to hold this lead now. Youkilis full count. Grounds to Bautista, throw to Overbay one down. Drew, ball dribbles off his bat in front of mound, Molina throw to first to get him. Two down for Ortiz, singles to right, only the second hit on Marcum. Beltre, high fly ball to Wells in centre for third out. Looks like set up for Downs and Gregg here.

Top 8th: Cito would love to tag on a few more here. Wakefield on 102 pitches but could probably throw same old stuff all day long. Top of Jays order now. Lewis leading off. No that’s it for Wakefield. Delcarmen now pitching. How will Jays bats react after all that off speed slow stuff? Fred strikes out looking. One down for Gonzalez, lines to Scutaro at short, two down. Ruiz, can he connect here on one? Yes but lines it right at Drew in right field for third out.
Bottom 8th: Marcum did Jay bullpen a huge favour today going seven. Six strike outs and only one walk and two hits. Downs now pitching. Hermida, lines it to left, another shattered bat right at Bautista. Lowell, pinch hitting for Van Every. Downs a little wild here after Marcum 2-2 count. eight pitch at bat, Lowell hanging tough. Pops this one up to McDonald. One down. One on base. Scutaro, lines it to Lewis in left for out number two. Pedroia, Gregg warming up. Pedroia same play lines it to Lewis for third out.

Top 9th: Perhaps one more here from the big bats? Wells leading off. Hall now in left defensively. Vernon another ofer day. Pulls this one from way outside down to short, Scutaro long throw in time but replay could go either way. Vernon why not opposite field on that pitch at least ? Overbay, 1-3 today. takes third strike. Bautista, full count, Jose thought ball four, umpire was very late with call. I don’t think Jose disagreed, just that there was no call. Grounds it hard at third, bounces off Beltre’s body, no throw Bautista safe at first. Here comes Snider with all the RBIs today. But that’s it for Delcarmen. Travis getting some respect here. Ex-Jay Scott Schoeneweis pitching. Lefty lefty matchup. Schoeneweis must have learned from Frasor, SO slow, throwing over every pitch. Travis strikes out.
Bottom 9th: Gregg pitching. Can you save this one Kevin? Martinez leading off. Strikes out. Youkilis, one down. singles up the middle right over the mound. One on one down for Drew, 3-1 count. Full count. Trouble here, doubles into centre right, Youkilis scores, 3-1 Jays and here comes Ortiz. None of these Red Sox hitters like any call. Wander around out of the hitters box, 0-2. Papelbon warming up. Full count. Be careful here Kevin. Strikes him out Ortiz goes nuts. Francona now out to argue. Ortiz shouting in dugout asking to be thrown out. Problem is this is all distracting Gregg. Crowd now into it. Two down Beltre. He doesn’t like the call what a bunch of whiners. Beltre, Singles to right, here comes run 3-2 Jays. One run game Kevin. McDonald, two down one on, pops it up to Johnny Mc. and Jays win one big.

Jays get that important win and leave ahead of Boston. Win for Jays takes them to 20-16 and Red Sox 18-17.

The very good: Tie between Marcum shitting down Boston into seven innings and young Snider getting all three RBIs this afternoon. Amazing what only one walk will do for pitch count.

The good: Downs and Gregg although rocky did manage to save it for Downs.
Jays finish road trip 7-3. Very good.
Yankees lose to Detroit, great.

Day off tomorrow, get the bullpen two days off. Just as important get Hill, Lind, Wells and Overbay lined up for a breakout game on Friday night at Rogers Centre. Pitchers under siege right now, they have to get those walks down and get the pitch count under control or the bullpen will be burned out by All-Star break. Rcepzynski, Encarnacion and Tallet rehabbing, I agree with a fan who says please leave Tallet in the minors but it will not happen whilst Cito is managing and there is a role for him in the long relief spot. Jays have no one right now who can go more than two. A guy who can throw four or five would be invaluable.
