Jays second team loses to Astros

Jays in Kissimee today visiting Houston.

Second team on the bus. Starter Brandon Morrow is a late scratch and Steven Register ex-Mets and Rockies player, gets the start for Jays.
Steven has pitched twelve innings in his major career. Claimed off waivers from the Rockies by the Phillies and then offered minor league contract with the Jays. Takes the first three innings and gives up four hits and two runs in first three. Houston leading 2-0.
Casey Janssen getting in his work, a hitless inning facing the minimum three and keeping that ERA at .000. He certainly seems ready. Ochinko with two singles. Accardo one scoreless inning leaves with his ERA now at 9.00.

Purcey is in trouble again in his inning with hit and two walks but finally gets out of it with the strikeouts facing six hitters his ERA now at 7.20.

Johnny Mac. today hitless in three but leaves his average at .313. in sixteen at bats and five hits.
Jose Molina getting only his second hit of the spring. Not much threat to John Buck or for that matter JP Arencibia but I doubt whether JP will go north. They need experience to work with the Jays young pitching staff. Too bad as JP is an exciting young player with great bat. We can look forward to him one day in Toronto.

Gervacio for the Atros striking out the side in the seventh.
Bottom of the seventh Rommie Lewis for an inning and faces the minimum three with two ground outs and a fly ball out, continues his streak of scoreless innings now at four for the spring.

Jays Collazzo goes scoreless inning in the eighth now up to the hitters to avoid a shutout. Top of the ninth. Walks Randy Ruiz but was that semi-intentional? But Jays need base runners..No there we go, Corcoran wraps it up and Jays lose this one.
Staff changes.

Brain Dopirak was optioned to AAA Vegas which now leaves just Randy Ruiz as back up at first. Hoffpauir also gone along with catcher Kyle Phillips who had his last shot yesterday against the Orioles.
Interesting. Alex Rios this spring .350 in twenty at bats with two home runs and evidently “working on his mental game”. Jays fans know what that means, good luck Ozzie.
