Bim-Bam, Braves bats boom as Frasor blows this one

Jays v Braves Sunday March 14. Split squad for Braves.

No Bobby Cox today in his farewell season but one more chance to see him next week. Braves bring the big bats though not least new phenom Jason Heyward. This looked very good for Jays in batting practice with Vernon in particular ball after ball into the trees and over the fences. Aaron was not far behind.

Morrow had a rough outing giving up early lead but Jays fought back with five to go ahead 5-4. Lind, Wells, Overbay and Ruiz two run home run did all the damage.
Jason Frasor however has a terrible outing and immediately gives up four more and can only get one out facing eight batters before he is mercifully pulled. In Spring training to be pulled in the middle of an innings is rare indeed and Cito did not make an appearance to do the deed, leaving it to Bruce Walton. I don’t think Jason will enjoy his ERA tonight. 15.43 ?? Ouch Jason.
Collazo did an excellent job to come in and close down the inning getting the other two outs.

The problem was that Frasor had also destroyed the momentum of the game which had swung back to the Jays after the five spot to take the lead. You could feel the energy sap from the game and from the crowd who had enjoyed the comeback in the previous inning. Randy Ruiz playing DH today went deep into right field, no doubt at all about that one.
Meantime Frasor’s rivals for the closer role Kevin Gregg and Scott Downs made sure they were perfect. Camp, Roenicke and Lewis finished this one off scoreless. Lewis has still to give up a run after three games.

Vernon again going hard to the opposite field and not pulling. He has looked strong since day 1 and GM Alex mentioned the same and that he was injury free this year. We all wish.

Back to the Braves future Jason Heyward this guy is so good and one to watch this season. A bullet double on his first pitch from Morrow followed by another double and add his speed in right field, this guy is an All-Star.

Following this one it was fast to Bright House Field for an evening game with the Legends. This is the third time I have attended this game a fund raiser for youth baseball and always entertaining.
This year alas no Gaylord Perry and many of the players were not quite legends in my book. Jeff Kent ? Dante Bichette ?

However the home run competition was entertaining with Mark Whitten yet again going deep for the many young boys in the breen chasing down the balls which was half the fun of this game. Long on the military recognition before the game gets going and with at least five players on each team representing the US military. Not sure how Doug Flutie gets to wear military uniform ?? but this is entertainment and I guess he could not wear an AL or NL uniform.
