Jays power too much for Bonderman and the Tigers

Jays v Tigers at Dunedin. Sunday March 7th.

Jays win another 8-5 over the Tigers and this one was over in the first inning as Jays booming bats storm back from 3-0 deficit to bat around and score six before the inning was over.

Tallet was off to a rocky start and gave up three runs in the first inning much to the delight of large Tigers crowd before Jays could bat.His first start of the spring so he may be forgiven.

But he was rescued by Bautista in the bottom of the first, once again hot Jose provided the fireworks with a lead off home run right on cue as a loud Tigers fan had shouted out “Come on Jeremy this guy can’t hit”, yes he can friend.
Bautista now 6-8 and a .750 average with four extra bases hits for the week before today’s game. Adding another home run today and 1-3 his average this week is .636. Bautista's second leadoff home run this week in five games. Not bad at all Jose.

Randy Ruiz with the bases loaded made no mistake hammering one for a grand slam and the Jays were up by five with Travis getting a sac fly for the sixth before Leyland mercifully put Bonderman out of his misery. 36 pitches for two outs. Ouch bigtime. Jeremy’s era now 20.25. Lots of work to do Jeremy before April. Lyle Overbay must also be looking over his should at Ruiz at first. This is the power that has been missing at first base since Delgado left. Trade talks anyone ?

Tallet not much better than Bonderman with two innings, four hits two walks and an era of 18.00, did not look sharp at all and was very lucky not to get hit harder.

Vernon Wells another hot bat this week, five hits in eight at bats made no mistake in the second inning with a two run blast, his first of the spring. Vernon has definitely looked like his old self and the boo birds are nowhere to be seen or heard.

The eight runs in first two innings was more than enough for Jays relief corps to close Tigers down. Frasor, Gregg, Camp, Downs, Roenicke, Farquhar combined for six innings five hits and only one run. A very neat closing ninth by Rommie Lewis to get his second save of the week. Frasor looked very good although slowed pace of the game down pitching in the third.Gregg looked good throwing hard but gave up the other run.

Jays bats have had a great week in the first five games. Don't forget Aaron hiting a cool .800 and Vernon now at .600 And yes Edmonton Jay, very early but as Yogi Berra said baseball is 10% talent and 95% mental. ( I think he said it) this Jays team confidence is flying high right now.

Beating the Phillies and Yankees in back to back games and a convincing win today over a very good Tigers team gives these young guys something to swagger about and that is half the battle. Remember Tampa two years ago.

The only downer for me was Mike McCoy getting picked off stealing but over all a great day to be at the game.
