Toronto v Angels game two of two game series.
Lineups: Toronto: Same lineup. Scutaro, Hill, Rios Wells, Lind, Rolen, Overbay, Barajas Snider and Ray pitching.
Angels: Figgins, Izturis, Abreu, Hunter, Morales, Napoli, Rivera, Kendrick, and Weaver pitching.
The good: Hill’s home run. Ray’s effort tonight, held them in the game without any run support and two errors from his catcher. Great hustling catch by Snider.
The bad: Barajas two throwing errors on Figgins, probably the fastest guy in the league. This does not augur well for when Jays play Tampa and see Crawford on the bases, he will run all night with that throwing.
The very bad: Jays hitters tonight, awful discipline at the plate, far too many first pitch outs. Placed no pressure on Weaver at all through out the game and he was able to pitch complete game as a result.
Top 1st: Scutaro bunting, not a good one, Mathis throw to first gets him, Hill strikes out, Rios pops up to short, quick inning for Weaver.
Bottom 1st: Figgins grounds to Hill great play to turn and throw him out. Izturis singles into right. Abreu with one on grounds to Overbay throw to Scutaro to get two down for Hunter. Izturis stealing Barajas cannot get hold of the ball and safe at second. Hunter strikes out swinging.
Top 2nd: Wells doubles to the wall in left centre. A bullet on a line. Lind, grounds to first throw to Weaver for the out Vernon moves to third on the play. Rolen now strikes out. Two down for Overbay, fly ball to centre Hunter. Not good hitting by Jays with Vernon at second and could not bring him in.
Bottom 2nd: Morales singles into right. Napoli, with one on, 3-0 count. high fly ball this one is out, over head of Rios in right and Angels take quick two run lead 2-0 Angels. Rivera fly ball out to Wells in left centre. One down for Kendrick, grounds to Scutaro throw to Overbay two down. Mathis, strikes out.
Top 3rd: Barajas strikes out. Snider pops up to Mathis. Two down for Scutaro, strikes out, Weaver getting Jays hitters to swing over that third strike each time. They have to adjust.
Bottom 3rd: Figgins showing bunt. Takes it off. Bunting again and past Ray’s dive, Hill’s throw too late. Speed kills. Everyone in the park knows he will be going. Izturis there he goes and Barajas throw gets away in to centre and Figgins is at third. With no outs. Fly ball to Wells and run scores. 3-0 Angels one down. The good is that Figgins is off the bases. He will be doing that all night if he gets on. Abreu lines out to left, great running sliding catch by Snider, two down for Hunter.high fly ball to Rios in right but Angels on top tonight so far at least.
Top 4th: Hill at bat, YES Aaron gets hold of this one high into left field, home run for Hill, 3-1 Angels. Rios first pitch, big swing and pop up to first. Waste of an at bat Alex. Wells, pops up to Kendrick. Lind with two down, first pitch grounds to Morales. Wild first pitch swings by Jays hitters, not achieving anything apart from a longer outing by Weaver.
Bottom 4th: Morales grounds to Hill, throw to Overbay for the out. Napoli, fly ball to Rios in right corner, one down for Rivera, strikes out. Ray doing his job but where are the bats tonight?
Top 5th: Rolen fly ball to Abreu in right, one down. Overbay first pitch grounds to Kendrick at second throw to first, two outs in three pitches. Barajas strikes out on three pitches. Jays hitters have enabled Weaver to get in a groove here. Six pitch inning ??? Weaver at this rate will go complete game easily.
Bottom 5th: Kendrick grounds to Rolen, throw to Overbay for first out. Mathis pops up to Scutaro two down for Figgins again, 3-1 count, don’t lose him here. Doubles over head of Rios.off the wall almost out of here, Izturis at bat two down, watch the steal. Pops up to Scutaro. No damage done, Rays is doing his job, but I can’t say the same for the hitters tonight.
Top 6th: Snider grounds first pitch to Kendrick throw to first for very easy out. Weaver’s pitch count is an incredibly low 60 pitches. Scutaro, has he learned anything tonight? Yes at least a full count, fly ball to centre Hunter, two down for Hill. Grounds to third, throw to first for third out. 70 pitches for Weaver.
Bottom 6th: Yankees have lost another to Tampa, Boston thrash Cleveland scoring twelve in one inning and before an out, new record. Jays look like losing this one and dropping one to Boston but staying six ahead of Yankees. Abreu at bat, shatters his bat on fly ball to Wells. One down for Hunter grounds to Scutaro throw to Overbay, two down. Morales at bat, high fly ball out of here in right centre. 4-1 Angels. Napoli grounds hard to Rolen off his glove into left and on second. Rivera grounds it through Hill to centre, Morales scores 5-1 Angels. Kendrick strikes out. Ray has not pitched badly at all tonight, he has not been helped much by his defence and not all by his hitters.
Top 7th: Let’s see what the hitters can do now. So far a spineless display of inept hitting from all but Hill and Wells. Rios at bat, pops it up to Hunter. Alex average was .260 before that at bat. Wells strikes out on a ball head high. I think that says it all tonight. Lind with two down, singles to centre. That is only the third hit by Jays hitters tonight, will not win many with that awful production. Rolen first pitch pops up to right.
Bottom 7th: Ray still out there, Mathis at bat. Cito really resting his bullpen. Grounds to Scutaro throw to Overbay for the out. Figgins singles into left. Izturis there goes Figgins and again a wild throwing error by Barajas, ball into centre field. Figgins goes to third. Third hit of the night. Izturis singles to right and in comes Figgins. 6-1. Finally Cito emerges, you left this kid in too long tonight Cito, he did more than expected again but had to fight his own catcher’s errors and also the lack of run support. Murphy pitching Abreu at bat. OH boy what a great catch by Snider running hard into the wall to catch that hit off Abreu. Shades of Raoul Mondesi, we don’t see that in right from Alex. Hunter grounds to Murphy throw to Overbay for third out.
Top 8th: Jays have six more outs to show something tonight but you can almost sense they are flat tonight. Overbay grounds to Kendrick throw to first for easy out. Barajas 0-2 two srtrikeouts to add to his two errors, pops up to shallow centre. Two down for Snider.the only guy who has shown hustle tonight, Strikes out. Three outs left in this one for Jays hitters.
Bottom 8th: Morales strikes out on three pitches. Napoli fly ball to Snider, two down. Rivera fly ball to Wells. Angels want to go out tonight.
Top 9th: Top of the order, let’s see. Here we go Scutaro first pitch pop up to second one down. Hill fly ball to Hunter, two down for Rios. Hitless tonight and average sinking fast again, strikes out.
Weaver gets complete game his career first.
Jays play a stinker.
