Toronto v Chicago White Sox. Game two of four.
Lineups: Chicago: Podsednik, Getz, Dye, Konerko. Thome, Ramirez, Pierzynski, Fields, Lillibridge and Colon pitching.
Toronto: Scutaro, Hill, Rios, Wells, Lind, Bautista, Overbay, Chavez, Snider and Ray pitching.
Jays come back to win this one 2-1 with two in the eighth. Three stolen bases ! and a win for Ray, save number four for Downs.
The very good: Ray eight innings of three hits and one unearned run.
The good: Chavez, Wells, Bautista 2 each. Scutaro 3 hits. Jays 2/8 RISP
The bad: Chavez throw to Bautista at third in the first inning resulting in error and the first run which held for eight innings. Bautista and Scutaro with foolish attempts to stretch the bases, both thrown out.
Top 1st: Podsednik walked. Ray a little wild here. Getz grounded out, second baseman Hill to first baseman Overbay, Podsednik to second. Dye at bat, Podsednik stealing third Chavez throw to third hits him on the foot and goes foul as Podesdnik scores. 1-0 Chicago. Error on Chavez, that was not a great move by Chavez, very risky throw. He would have done better to hold on to ball. Dye strikes out. Konerko grounds to Bautista on to Overbay. Definitely would have been better to hold that throw by Chavez as it happens.Ray over 20 pitch inning, will need better control if he is to stay in this thing.
Bottom 1st: Scutaro grounds to short Ramirez throw to first base Konerko. Hill exactly the same play, grounds to Ramirez over to first base Konerko for second out. Rios singles to centre. Wells grounds to third base Fields throw to second base Getz, Rios out.
Top 2nd: Thome with the big shift right, singles up the middle. Ramirez grounds to Hill throw to Scutaro at second, Thome out. Ramirez stealing second but Pierzynski fouling off pitch after pitch, there he goes again Pierzynski pops up to Bautista, Ramirez is at second diving in again easy throw to Overbay and Ramirez out. That was a dumb play by Ramirez. He should have been following the play off the bat.
Blue Jays 2nd: Lind fouls to left field Podsednik. Bautista singles to centre, trying for two out at second, that was one dumb play by Bautista, no way would that be a double unless you are Crawford or Figgins, not good at all. Overbay 3-0 and now walks on four pitches. That’s should be two on and one down instead on one on and two down. Bautista note. Chavez grounds to third base Fields throw to first base Konerko. And Jays come away with nothing.
Top 3rd: Fields grounds to Overbay one down. Lillibridge hit by a pitch. Did not look like it from my seat. Lillibridge stealing second and great throw this time from Chavez to Scutaro to get Lillibridge. Two down for Podsednik, pops up to Bautista.
Bottom 3rd: Snider grounds to short Ramirez throw to Konerko at first. Scutaro doubles to centre. Going for a triple but nailed by great relay from throw by Dye to Getz. Scutaro out easily. That was not a smart thing to do by Scutaro. That is the third incident already by Jays. Jays are making it harder for Ray. Hill grounds to shortstop Ramirez throw to Konerko at first.
Top 4th: Getz fly ball to centre Wells. Dye pops up to left field Snider. Konerko grounds back to Ray throw to first base Overbay for third out.
Bottom 4th: Rios grounds to short Ramirez throw to first base Konerko. One down. Wells walks. Lind lines out to right field Dye. Bautista strikes out.
Top 5th: Thome strikes out. Ramirez grounds to Bautista throw to Overbay, two down. But Ramirez does not like that call and glaring at first base umpire, this kid is a hot dog. Even his own first base coach is not arguing. Pierzynski fly ball to left field Snider for the third out.
Bottom 5th: Overbay pops up to Ramirez at short. One down for Chavez. Chavez singles to centre. Snider strikes out. Scutaro doubles to right, Chavez moves to third. Hill fly ball to centre field Lillibridge.
Top 6th: Fields singles to left. Lillibridge sacrificing back to Ray throw to Overbay, Fields to second. Podsednik fly ball left field Snider. Getz grounds to Scutaro on to first base Overbay for the out.
Bottom 6th: That’s it for Colon. Dotel pitching. Rios grounds to Ramirez throw to first base Konerko. Wells singles to centre. Lind at bat, Vernon stealing second and safe.Lind grounds to second base Getz throw to first base Konerko, Lind out, Wells to third. Bautista with two down and runner at third strikes out.
Top 7th: Dye fly ball to Wells. Konerko singles to left. Shift on again for Thome with one on grounds to Scutaro playing on first base side of second, on to Bautista to get Konerko at second and over to Overbay, double play ball. For those scoring, a rare 6-5-3 double play.
Bottom 7th: Thornton now pitching. Overbay strikes out. Chavez singles to right. Millar pinch-hitting for Snider, strikes out. Scutaro singles to left, Chavez to second. Jays have something going again. McDonald pinch-running for Chavez. Hill strikes out.
Top 8th: Ray still out there. Bautista in left field. Barajas now catcher. Millar at third. Ramirez fly ball to Rios. Pierzynski fly ball to Rios. Fields strikes out and that is probably it for Ray today. I never thought he would pitch eight after that first inning.
Bottom 8th: Linebrink pitching. Rios lines to second base Getz. One down. Wells singles to centre. Lind at bat, Vernon stealing second and safe. Vernon’s second steal today. Lind doubles just fair into right corner, Vernon scores from second. Jays have finally scored and tied this one up.1-1. That steal helped. Wild pitch and Lind to third. Bautista, singles to left, Lind scores and Jay have the lead for first time today.2-1 Jays. Overbay at bat and Bautista now stealing and safe at second just barely beats the throw, what’s with this team? three today. Overbay grounds to second base Getz throw to first Konerko, Bautista now at third. Barajas strikes out. But Jays score twice, just in time and take the lead.
Top 9th: Rolen in at third. Downs pitching.Nix pinch-hitting for Lillibridge., fly ball to Wells, one down. Podsednik grounds to Hill throw to Overbay. Two down. Crowd on their feet Betemit pinch-hitting for Getz. Grounds to Overbay flip to Downs for third out and his save. Jays win this one coming from behind at the end.
