Jays home run power from Bautista and Arencibia enable Hutchison to beat Yankees

Yankees v Jays. Game two of two. Much too much media coverage on Jays today. Where do we start? Let’s get Lawrie business out of the way. Media and talk shows appear split on his suspension, one suggesting he take it like a man and get on with it. I like that. During the day we hear that he has dropped his appeal. This was rumoured yesterday and in fact he only mentioned it so that he could play against Yankees. Sounds like he was “persuaded”. He will not be in lineup tonight and will miss the NY Mets series over the weekend, returning for the road trip to Texas. The more important news however is that Lind has been sent to AAA Vegas. I like that, gives Adam time to work on that swing in relative peace from the media and little pressure. In his place Yan Gomes has been called up. Lineups: Yankees: Jeter, Granderson, Cano, Teixeira, Ibanez, Swisher, Chavez, Jones, Martin and Hughes pitching. Jays: Johnson, Escobar, Bautista, Encarnacion, Francisco, Rasmus, Gomes, Davis and Hutchison pitching, No Lind or Lawrie. 83 pitch count. Top 1st: Jeter, in the lineup tonight after night off yesterday. Bunting but right back at Hutchison, throw to Encarnacion at first for the out. Granderson, 3-1 low ball four. One on for Cano. Lines it to the wall in left and here comes Granderson to score from first, 1-0 Yankees early lead. Cano at second. One down for Teixeira, 2-2 count, strikes out swinging, two down for Ibanez. Grounds to Johnson, throw to Encarnacion for third out. Hutchison recovered well after that first run. Bottom 1st: Johnson, full count, low ball four. Lead off walk. Escobar, back in the lineup today. Singles to right, two on for Bautista. Full count, strike out swinging, one down for Encarnacion. 0-2 count, strikes out swinging, two down two on for Arencibia, pops it up to Teixeira at first. Not a good start after getting first two on and nobody out. Top 2nd: Swisher leading off, fly ball to left, Davis makes the catch at the wall, long out. One down for Chavez. Grounds back up the middle, nice play by Escobar and throw to Edwin for the out. Two down for Andruw Jones. 2-2 count, lines it to left for Davis to make another catch against the wall and retire the side. Bottom 2nd: Francisco, DH tonight lines it to right for Jones to make the out. One down for Rasmus, full count, ball four, one on for Yan Gomes major league debut. First Brazilian born player to make it to the big leagues, strikes out here. Two down for Rajai Davis. 2-2 count, there goes Colby but fouled off. Grounds to Jeter throw pulls Teixeira off the bag and Davis safe at first. Error to Jeter. Two on for Johnson pops it up to Swisher in left. . Top 3rd: Martin, full count, grounds to Escobar, throw to Edwin, one down for Jeter, strikes put looking, enquires of the umpire Lawrie are you watching that? Granderson, grounds down the line wide of Gomes double for Granderson. Cano with one on and two down. Full count, low ball four. Teixeira, high fly ball to Bautista in right to leave two on. Hutchison escapes trouble. Bottom 3rd: Escobar, singles to Granderson in centre. One on for Bautista. Full count, just misses that one. Turns on this one and fifth deck foul in left. 536 section. There goes Escobar and Jose LAUNCHES ONE, into the Jays bullpen in left, great shot. 2-1 Jays. Great at bat as he took Hughes all the way and more. Encarnacion fly ball to Granderson for the first out. Arencibia, 2-1 count, pops it up to Teixeira, two down. Francisco, hammers this one to left but Ibanez has it for the out. Top 4th: Ibanez, 3-2 count, ball four, for leadoff walk. Swisher, full count, outside ball four, back to back walks. Nobody out for Chavez, NICE play, grounds to Johnson, tags Ibanez as he goes by and throw to first to get Chavez, double play ball. Very nice. Andruw Jones. 1-2 strikes out swinging to end the inning. Nice recovery by Hutchison. Bottom 4th: Rasmus, fly ball to Jones in right, one down for Gomes. 0-2 count, lines single back up the middle to Granderson, his first major league hit. Davis, lines it to Jones in right, bobbles it, stand up double for Rajai Davis as Gomes is held up at third Johnson, two in scoring position one down. Pops it up to Cano, both runners hold. Escobar, lines it softly up the middle but Cano makes a great running catch to end the inning and rob Gomes of his first run. Top 5th: Martin, grounds to Encarnacion takes it himself for the out at first. Jeter, 0-2 tonight, lines to right, Bautista makes a great diving save to prevent a double. Wow. One on one down for Granderson singles into right centre just past Johnson. Two on for Cano. Hutchison has been in and out of trouble all night. He is pushing his luck. Cano lines it to right but right at Jose for the out. Two down for Teixeira, pops it up to Gomes and Hutchison escapes again. Bottom 5th: Bautista, full count, strikes out looking. Encarnacion, full count pops it up to Teixeira. Two down. Arencibia, another full count, strikes out swinging to end the inning. 99 pitch count. Top 6th: Ibanez, fly ball to Rajai Davis in left for the first out. Swisher, 0-2 count, Frasor warming up in Jays bullpen. Bounces up first base line, Hutchison shovels it to Encarnacion at first, two down. Chavez, 3-1 count, lines to the wall in right centre. Bautista throw not in time and stand up double for Chavez. Andruw Jones, pops up the pitch to Encarnacion for third out. 96 pitch count. Nice pitching Drew. You have done your job. Bottom 6th: Francisco pulls this into left field corner, nice hit Ben. Rasmus, bunting? no but back to the pitcher, I wish they would let Colby hit away. Francisco had to hold. Gomes, 3-1 count, singles to right, Francisco holds at third. Two hit night for Gomes. Here comes Girardi, that is it for Hughes. Cory Wade now pitching. Davis, what was that ??? Davis bunts back to Wade, throws home to get Francisco. Awful play. Johnson with two down and runners at first and second. Full count, pops it up to Cano at second. Top 7th: Frasor now pitching. Martin, fly ball to Bautista makes the catch in right, one down. Jeter, 2-2 count, bounces to Escobar at short, throw to Encarnacion for second out. Granderson, two down, pops it up in front of Yankees dugout, and NO ! drops the ball, using one hand instead of two. Not good JP. Especially Granderson, Frasor may pay for that mistake by Arencibia. Full count, strikes out swinging, very nice inning Jason. Gets Arencibia off the hook as well. Bottom 7th: Escobar, 2-3 tonight. 0-2 count, strikes out swinging. One down for Bautista. Singles to Ibanez in left. Encarnacion, pops it up to Ibanez in shallow left centre. Two down. Arencibia, THERE SHE GOES... JP goes down to get this and hammers this high into left and into Jays bullpen. 4-1 Jays. Francisco. Full count, pull it to Chavez at third, throw to Teixeira for the out. Jays have some insurance but this is the Yankees, don’t celebrate yet friends. Top 8th: Darren Oliver pitching. Omar Vizquel in at third for Gomes. Cano, lines it to third and incredible dive by Vizquel to his right to make the catch, one down. Wow what a catch. Teixeira drives it to right but at Bautista for the out. Two down. Ibanez, pulls it to first and another great defensive play by Encarnacion, throw to Oliver for third out. Bottom 8th: Freddy Garcia now pitching. Rasmus, 0-2 tonight. 2-2 count, pops it up to Granderson in centre. One down for Vizquel. Lines it to Granderson for second out. Davis, pops up the first pitch to Teixeira for third out. Not very good hitting here by Jays. Top 9th: Janssen now pitching. Swisher, grounds to Johnson at second, throw to Edwin, one down. Chavez, same again, grounds to Johnson, throw to Edwin, two down. Andruw Jones, 1-2 count, strikes out swinging. Jays win big and the series against the Yankees. Now 6-10 against the east, starting to show their promise. The very good: Bautista two run home run. His fifth home run in the last seven games, I think his stroke is back. Arencibia his second home run in this homestand and tonight the one that gave Jays a three run advantage. Defensively Vizquel catch in the 8th. Drew Hutchison for his seven innings. Had lots of trouble but managed to get out of it each time. The not so good: Jays 1-10 with runners in scoring position. The awful. Davis bunt in the 6th and Francisco hesitation twice to run from third.
