Jays fight back but too little too late as they drop series finale to the Mets 6-5

Mets v Jays. Final game of series. Jays would love to sweep Mets today heading out on the road and in to Tampa and Arlington for two tough series. Lind news dominating but I can’t believe Alex did this without a load of input from the coaching staff. Adam has been a work in progress since 2009 and although he had a great May last year the rest of the three seasons were a bust and that is not an option for this timer anymore. Might as well cut and reposition. Strange as it may sound, Edwin has been fine at first, much better than last season at least. Lineups: Mets: Torres, Baxter, Wright, Duda, Murphy, Nieuwenhuis, Davis, Cedeno, Johnson and Dillon Gee pitching. Jays: Johnson, Escobar, Bautista, Encarnacion, Arencibia, Thames, Francisco, Rasmus, Gomes and Alvarez pitching. Top 1st: Torres leading off. 3-1 count, ball four, very tight zone today evidently, those pitches were not obviously balls. Baxter, 12- count, lines to centre, nice play by Rasmus, but stand up double for Baxter, Torres at third. Two in scoring position and nobody out. Tough for Alvarez here. Wright, doubles to left, here come the runners 2-0 Mets and still nobody out. Duda, grounds to Johnson, throw to Encarnacion, to get the out. Wright to third on the play. One down for Murphy. 0-2 count. Strikes out swinging. Two down for Nieuwenhuis. 2-2 count, lines it to centre, Rasmus makes a great catch but ball comes out as he slides, that is a rough call, as Wright scores. 3-0 Mets. Davis grounds back to Alvarez, throw to Edwin for the third out. 25 pitch inning. Bottom 1st: Johnson, 2-2 count, singles back up the middle, Nieuwenhuis bobbles it, Kelly going for two and safe sliding into second. Nice play Kelly. Escobar, 3-1 count, outside ball four, here comes Bautista with two on. 0-2 count, that was his pitch but he left it, 2-2 count, Jose just not looking comfortable here, strikes out swinging, you could see that coming a few pitches ago. Not aggressive the way he used to be. One down for Encarnacion. 1-2 count, outside but Edwin swinging through it, two down for Arencibia, grounds to second. That was one terrible performance by Bautista, Edwin and Arencibia. 23 pitches. Top 2nd: Cedeno singles to centre, he should show Jose how to do that. Johnson, one on 3-1 count, there goes Cedeno, grounds to Escobar, throw to first to get Johnson. Torres, full count, wow that looked high, in front of the plate, Alvarez just gets him with that throw two down. Baxter lines it to right Francisco cannot make the catch. scores 4-0. Wright runner at third. 0-2 count, takes strike three. Great pitch but Jays have uphill climb after only two innings. 44 pitches after two innings. Bottom 2nd: Gee cruising in this one today with 4 run lead. Thames first pitch swinging, fly ball to right, easy out. One down for Francisco. 3-1 outside ball four, much more patience than Thames in front of him. One on one down for Rasmus. Another 3-1 count, full count, outside ball four. Interesting both are ex-National league, as with Kelly Johnson far more patient. Gomes, two on, pulls it into left, here comes Francisco and Jays are on the board 4-1. Johnson, with two on and one down. Grounds to second, throw to the bag and Gomes breaks up the double play. Two down. Escobar, two down. 2-1 count, oh boy grounds to third, throw to second to get Johnson. Jays unable to get runners across today. Already 0-3 RISP two innings. Pitch count 31. Top 3rd: Duda, lines to centre, Rasmus makes the catch. Murphy, grounds to Gomes at third, throw to Edwin, two down. Nieuwenhuis, full count, strikes out swinging to end the innings. 57 pitch count. Much better inning but an uphill climb this afternoon. Bottom 3rd: Bautista, 3-1 count, goes after this one, THERE SHE GOES. Hammers it to left and over the wall inside foul pole. Home run Jose, 4-2 Mets. Encarnacion, pops it up to second, one down for Arencibia. Grounds to Wright at third, throw to first two down. Thames, first pitch swinging, luck there as it bounces foul. I wish this guy would learn some patience, full count, swings at ball four outside. 54 pitch count. Top 4th: Davis, lines it right at Gomes at third. Nice catch Yan, one down for Cedeno. Bounces to Escobar, throw to Edwin two down. Johnson, lines to Francisco in right, stand up double. Torres, grounds first, pitch to Edwin at first for the out, 63 pitches. He needed that to bring his pitch count down. Six pitches. Bottom 4th: Francisco leading off. Grounds to second, throw to first for the out. Rasmus, grounds to Davis at first, bobbles it but throw to Gee only just beats out Colby, that guy can hustle down the line. Two down for Gomes, full count, ball four, nice at bat Yan. One on two down for Johnson. 1-2 goes after the high ball to strike out. 74 pitch count. Top 5th: Baxter, singles to left, Wright, 1-2 count, singles to left, two on and nobody out. Duda. 2-2 count, grounds to Johnson, tags Wright but throw to first not in time, Edwin pulled off the bag. Baxter at third, Duda at first. Murphy 1-2 count. Singles up the middle, Baxter scores 5-2 Mets. Nieuwenhuis, two on, one down. Full count. outside ball four. Bases loaded. Davis, grounds to Johnson, bobbles it and can only get one out at second, run scores 6-2 Mets. Cedeno pops up first pitch Encarnacion has it at photographers bay and overbalances into the bay but hangs on to the ball. Great play Edwin. 90 pitch count. Bottom 5th: Time the Jays hitters got going. Escobar, lucky guy, grounds to short and Cedeno misses it, whoa error. Bautista now, going the other way opposite field, but foul. 3-1 not giving Jose anything now. Bounces up the middle, steps on the bag and throw to first double play ball. Ouch Jose. Encarnacion. Grounds to Cedeno, long throw and bounce it to first for the out. 85 pitch count. Top 6th: Luis Perez now pitching. Davis in right for Francisco. Johnson full count, strikes out swinging, one down. Torres grounds to Escobar, throw to Edwin for the out. Baxter grounds to Edwin takes it himself for third out. Bottom 6th: Arencibia, bounces up the middle for a single. Good start. Thames, lines to Baxter in left for the out, one down for Rajai Davis. strikes out swinging for second out. Two down for Rasmus. 1-2 count, grounds to second, bobbles it but throw to Davis at first for the out. 100 pitch count. Top 7th: Wright, 3-0 count, Luis lost the zone here. Ball four, leadoff walk but probably better than that guy hitting. Duda, 2-2 count, strikes out swinging, one down. Murphy, 1-2 count, fly ball to Davis, two down. Nieuwenhuis, full count, grounds to Johnson, great throw off balance to get Nieuwenhuis at first. Bottom 7th: Can this team fight back today? So far no signs that they can. Gomes leading off, certainly he has been a good replacement for Lawrie who will be back tomorrow. Ouch hits him in the back. One on for Johnson, 0-2 strikes out swinging, one down one on for Escobar. 1-2, grounds to Wright at third, throw to Davis at first for the second out. Gee 110 pitches. Bautista makes it one too many Jose. There we go, singles up the middle, here comes Gomes. Encarnacion, Goodbye goodbye Mr Gee, too many pitches this time. 6-3 Mets with one on two down. Now Edwin hit this one out and make it interesting. Bobby Parnell now pitching. Bounces to short, throw to second for the third out. Top 8th: Villanueva now pitching. Davis, lines it to Davis in right for stand up double. Not what Villanueva wanted. Cedeno, wild pitch and Davis to third, not much going right for this lot today. YES, YES, YES, another wild pitch but this time Arencibia throw to Villanueva gets Davis coming home at home plate, very nice. One down 2-2 count, singles to left, Davis will not be happy. Johnson one down one on. Singles to right. Two on for Torres, where are the ground balls? 0-2 count, nice pitch inside strike three, two down for Baxter. Home run for the cycle. 3-1 count, ball four, bases loaded and the most dangerous hitter in Wright, not a very smart idea. 1-2 count, strikes out swinging. Lucky, lucky guy. Bottom 8th: Jays running out of chances here and have not looked sharp at all at the plate today. Arencibia, 2-2 count, that will do JP, lines it off the wall in left, stand up double for JP. Thames, this will do it, lines it down first base line into right, here comes Arencibia, Thames at second, 6-4 game. Major mound conference here. Rajai Davis, runner at second. Mets bullpen working hard. Rauch and Francisco. Just a base hit Rajai, 2-1 count, grounds to third, looks Thames back and throw to first for the out. Rasmus, that will do singles into centre, here comes Thames to score 6-5 game. Gomes, runner at first one down. 0-2 count, just get on base Yan.1-2 strikes out swinging. Two down for Johnson. That is it for Parnell, gets the number nine rookie hitter, not an outing for him to want to remember. Tim Byrdak now pitching for Mets. One on two down. Can Kelly do it? 2-2, pops it up to Duda in shallow right to end this rally. One run game much better than a four run. Top 9th: Darren Oliver now pitching. Duda leading off.3-0 count, unable to find the zone. Low ball four, awful. How to take the crowd out of the game Darren. One on for Murphy, fly ball to Thames in left, one down. Nieuwenhuis, 2-0 count, six balls one strike. Not good. 3-1 count, high ball four, horror. Two on one down for Davis. No, Hairston is pinch hitting. 2-2 count, very nice, strikes out swinging, Hairston made him work for it, eight pitch at bat, two down that is it for Oliver. Cordero ??? Cedeno, strike one, strike two, strike three looking, three pitches, that is pressure pitching. Very nice. Bottom 9th. One run will do it. Can they do it? Top of the order Escobar leading off, don’t try to be a hero Yunel, we need base runners. Not someone out at the wall trying for a home run. Ex-Jay Frank Francisco now pitching for the win. 2-2 count, outside full count, low ball four. Yunel did his job, can Jose do his? This is the match up we wanted. Will they pitch to him though? high ball one. Low strike one, 1-1, that was the pitch missed it 1-2 count. Jose singles to right, two on for Encarnacion, tie run at second. Edwin 0-3 today. Inside ball one, 1-2 count, strikes out swinging. Arencibia, ball one, ball two, fouls it off to the right, same again, 2-2 count. strikes out swinging. Two down for Thames. Fouls it off, inside ball one, low ball two, fouls it off down to the last strike, high strikes out. Thames just not up to it. Francisco shows his pressure pitching. Mets win 6-5. Jays came close but not enough and head out on the road with that loss and 4-3 homestand instead of 5-2 which would have been a whole lot better. It only gets tougher next few series. The very good: Cordero bottom of the 8th. Bautista three hit day, two RBIs and home run. Gomes once again coming through with RBI. He has been fine replacing Lawrie. The bad: Bautista in the first inning. Thames in the 9th. Two on and nobody out and unable to bring runner in at three attempts. Overall lack of run support for Alvarez. The very very bad: Guess what? runners in scoring position 4-13. Yes FOUR. Don’t blame Alvarez today. Jays outhit the Mets but fail big-time with runners in scoring position.
