Drabek awful outing and three errors hurt Jays tonight as Angels win 6-2

Jays v Angels Game three of four. Drabek tonight, can he keep the string going that Morrow and Alvarez have started? It would be difficult to imagine three shut out games with this Angels lineup. However Jays are on a four game win streak with great defense along with some good hitting up and down the lineup and superb pitching. Long may we enjoy it. No Pujols tonight, give the guy a break, his longest homerless streak of his career. Must be miserable for someone like Albert. At least Jose has five in his misery. However I am sure that most Jays fans are happy not to see him in the lineup Lineups: Jays: Johnson, Escobar, Bautista, Encarnacion, Lind, Lawrie, Davis, Rasmus, Arencibia and Drabek pitching. Farrell staying with the changes at the top and finally moving Lind. He was not offering much protection behind Jose and why would they give him anything to hit when they could get to Lind? Angels: Trout, Callaspo, Hunter, Morales, Kendrick, Trumbo, Wells, Aybar, Wilson and C. J. Wilson pitching. Vernon moved way down the order and Trumbo in place of Pujols at first. Mr ubiquitous. Third left and first in the three games. Top 1st: Johnson, grounds to second, throw to Trumbo at first, one down. Escobar, much better since hitting number two. Takes strike three. Two down for Bautista. Full count, takes strike three. Not a good at bat for Jose after being 3-0 in the count. 14 pitch count. Bottom 1st: Trout, 1-2 count, strikes out swinging, one down. Callaspo, 2-2 count, grounds to Johnson at second, throw to Lind, two down for Hunter, 3-0 count, outside ball four. One on two down for Morales. 1-0 Drabek has lost the zone here. Singles up the middle to Rasmus. Hunter to third on the play. Two on for Kendrick. 2-1, grounds to Escobar at short, shovels the ball to Johnson to get Morales. Drabek escapes big trouble. 20 pitch count. Top 2nd: Boston has lost badly 8-2 in Fenway to those pesky Orioles. Yankees are losing to Kansas. Encarnacion, full count. Low ball four. The difference between Edwin and Jose right now, Jose would swing at that pitch in the dirt, Edwin takes it for the walk. Lind, one on, grounds to second, throw to the bag over to first, double play ball. Nowhere to hide Lind in this lineup. Lawrie. 3-1 count, grounds to second, over to first for the third out. 28 pitches. Bottom 2nd: Trumbo, 1-2 count, grounds to Escobar, throw to Lind, one down. Wells lines first pitch very hard to left, off the wall almost a home run. Just missed. Long double for Vernon. Aybar, one down one on. Strikes out swinging at pitch in the dirt. Two down for Bobby Wilson. 2-0, Drabek distracted by Vernon behind him half way to third. 2-2 count. Singles to left and here comes Wells to score Angels first run in the series, 20 scoreless innings. Trout, two down and Wilson at first. 1-0 Angels. 2-0 count, Drabek not sharp tonight and racking up the pitch count. Maybe a good job the bullpen has had two nights off. Grounds to Escobar throw to second for the force on Wilson. But Drabek gives up the first run here and a 38 pitch count. Look as if he will need some major run support tonight. Top 3rd: Kansas beating Yankees 5-1, Tampa tied 3-3 with Oakland. Davis playing for Thames, first pitch grounds to short, throw to first, one quick out. Rasmus, 2-2 count, takes strike three. Ouch. Arencibia. Pops it up to shallow centre, Trout makes a fine running diving catch. 37 pitch count. Angels much sharper all round tonight than the Jays. Bottom 3rd: Callaspo, 2-2 count, pulls it into right, past a diving Johnson. One on for Hunter, runner going, that will do, grounds to Escobar quick shovel to Johnson over to Lind double play. Very nice play. Morales. Shift right on and hammered right at a diving Lawrie in shallow right, for the out and saves Drabek there. Two great defensive plays. 47 pitches. 9 pitch inning his best so far tonight. Top 4th: Johnson, bounces over head of pitcher Wilson throw from Kendrick at second not in time. One on for Escobar, 2-1 count, there goes Johnson, throw is high to second and Johnson is safe. 3-1 grounds to second, throw to first for the out but Johnson to third on the play. One down for Bautista. Takes first pitch down the middle. Drives it to Trout in left centre here comes Johnson to score, 1-1 game. Encarnacion, high pop up to second, two down. Lind, at least he cannot hit into a double play this time. 2-2 count, strikes out swinging. Pitch count 58. Bottom 4th: Back to square one for Drabek now. Kendrick leading off. Bunts back to Drabek throw to Lind, one down. Trumbo, full count, Outside ball four, Drabek nibbling away at that corner and not getting the call. Now he has to watch Wells. Oh boy, wild pitch, come on. Trumbo at second. Bounces another in, Drabek not sharp at all tonight. 2-2 count. Another wild pitch, what is wrong with this guy? Trumbo to third. Ball four. Wells at first, Trumbo at third. And Drabek in big trouble. Aybar, oh boy lucky, lucky guy. Grounds to Escobar, steps on the bag for one, throw to Lind double play ball to end the inning. Drabek once again saved by his defense. 63 pitch count. Top 5th: Jays hitters had better pile on the runs because Drabek is clearly off tonight and struggling. Lawrie leading off. 0-2 count. That will do singles hard to left. Davis, one on. There goes Lawrie had a great jump but Davis hacks away and fouls it off. Come on Rajai take the pitch there. Now they have him picked off. Tags him out but sorry Rajai that was your fault. 1-2 count, grounds weakly to short throw to first for the out. Not impressed with Davis at bat there. Rasmus, Hammers this one high and hard to centre but the deepest part of the park and Trout makes the catch at the wall. 64 pitches. Bottom 5th: Let’s hope Drabek can find his game here. Wilson leading off. 2-2 pops it up to Rasmus in shallow centre, one down. Trout, Hammers this one to left and out of here, home run Angels 2-1 Angels. It was just a matter of time as Drabek is terrible tonight. Callaspo, full count, outside ball four. 75 pitches and only 40 strikes that tells it all. Hunter, one on one down. 3-1 count. Grounds to Escobar, flip to Johnson, over to Lind, umpire says not in time, Hmmmm not from here. Two down. Morales with runner at first. Relay shows Hunter was out. What a mess, grounds to Lind, through his legs, both runners safe. Error to Lind. Kendrick, 3-1 count, pops it up to Bautista in right to end this one, but an awful inning all round. 87 pitch count for Drabek. Jays hitters need a load of runs for this one tonight. Top 6th: Wilson just coasting in this one tonight. Arencibia, full count, outside ball four. Nice at bat JP. One on for Johnson. 0-2 strikes out swinging. One down for Escobar, 3-1 count, low ball four, another good at bat. Two on and one down for Bautista, if ever a good time for a home run. Lines it hard to left centre but great running catch by Wells to rob Jose there, two down for Encarnacion. High pop up to Trout in right centre for final out. Not the Jays night tonight. 82 pitch count. Bottom 6th: Will Drabek be out there? Yes but fortunate to be there. Trumbo leading off. High fly ball and this one is out of here in left. Second home run tonight, and Angels are 3-1. Wells, another wild pitch, come on Farrell get this guy out of here. full count, low ball four. Surely that is it ???? No. Aybar, bounces another in the dirt. How many more pitches does Farrell have to see ? NOW and only now is Frasor up in the bullpen. Much too long as Aybar bounces one to Escobar, no throw as both runners safe. Here comes Walton, Not the guy we need to see. Two on and nobody out. Wilson, bunting and all runners safe, Bases loaded. And mercifully that is it for fans to watch Drabek any longer. That was a pathetic outing. 99 pitches and only 52 for strikes. He was rescued time and again by his defense but was off line all night and far too many wild pitches and poor pitches. Not off the hook by any means here, it will take a miracle to get out of this one. This is where all the televisions in the east are turning off. Frasor has to get three outs without a hit against the top of the order. Trout with home run last at bat. Bases loaded and nobody out. 3-1 count, fly ball to Rasmus in centre, here comes Wells. Colby throw to second keeps double play in order, nice play. 4-1 Angels one down. Callaspo, I don’t believe it, grounds back to Fraser turns and throws it past Escobar into centre field !!! that was a double play ball. 5-1 Angels. Error to Frasor. Hunter, two on. 1-2 count, strikes out swinging, two down. Morales, 2-2 count. Lifts it over Lind into shallow right for a single bases loaded again. Kendrick, 0-2 count. strikes out swinging but too little too late from Frasor. Top 7th: Can Jays get these runs back here? Lind leading off. Wilson out there, how will that long rest affect him? Lind finally connects first pitch and drives it high and far, and this one is out of here drives it high into the seats in right centre, Home run for Lind finally. 5-2 Angels. Lawrie hammers first pitch the same right centre and a stand up double. Davis, 2-0 count, he drives it to right centre but this time caught at the wall. By Hunter. One down. Rasmus, 0-2 strikes out, two down for Arencibia. First pitch pop up to Trout, groan JP come on. Jays threaten but unable to finish. Bottom 7th: Carreno now pitching, he needs to shut the Angels down but I fear Drabek has wakened them up. Trumbo leading off. full count, lines it to Davis in left. One on for Wells. Fly ball to Davis in left, one down. Aybar, bunts in front, Arencibia nice throw to get him at first, two down with Trumbo at second. Wilson first pitch lines it to Bautista in right for third out. Carreno did his job. Tampa lose only their second game at home this season, Yankees and Boston also lose. Orioles win. Top 8th: Wilson still pitching, Johnson, top of the order. Strikes out swinging. One down for Escobar. Singles to centre, one on one down for Bautista. 0-2 count, hits him on the foot but umpire calls him out third strike. Not the Jays night tonight, Encarnacion. 2-0 count, whoa.... Edwin hammers this to left but Wells (of course) pulls it in up against the top of the wall, robs Edwin there. Angels have had all the breaks tonight. The baseball gods are in Bottom 8th: Vizquel in for Escobar. Carreno still pitching. Trout leading off. 3-1 count, lines it to left, Davis throw not in time and slides in to second with a lead off double. Callaspo, 2-1 count, bunting OH no... everyone leaves it, Lawrie finally but throw too late. Both runners safe. That should have been Correno’s play as Trout was running to third. Trout at third with nobody out. Pops it up to shallow right, this should be interesting, no Trout holds on Bautista throw back. Smart guy. One down and that is it for Correno. Luis Perez now pitching. Morales, runners at the corners, one down. Lines first pitch to Davis in left, Trout scores, 6-2 Angels. Kendrick runners at first and second. No I don’t believe it grounds back to Perez and he throws it away at second, that was a double play ball. Oh MY. Error to POerez. Bases loaded. Trumbo, there we go grounds back to Vizquel tags out the runner Morales on and throw to Lind for the double play. BUT my oh my.... Jays have three errors tonight, two by the pitchers. Top 9th: Last chance for Jays. Ernesto Frieri now pitching. Lind was the home run a flash in the pan? 3-1 count, outside ball four, well they need base runners. Lawrie, 0-2 count, strikes out swinging. One down. Thames pinch hitting for Davis. Full count, strikes out swinging, nine pitch at bat for Eric. Rasmus, last chance tonight, 1-2 count, strikes out swinging and Angels win first of the series 6-2 after being blanked for first two games. Tonight the story was the poor outing by Drabek, never in the game, missing outside all night long. Inability to throw strikes. Throwing wild pitches. By far his worst outing for a long time. He was fortunate to dodge the bullets all night long with double plays to help him out. BUT you have to wonder why Farrell kept Drabek in the game so long and with a rested bullpen. A pitcher’s manager. No good tonight John. Not so good. Three errors as Jays throw this one away Two by Frasor and Perez. Let's give a gold star to Lind for finally hitting one out. But Adam the test will be how long before we see your next one. Maybe, just maybe not long....
