Jays v Pittsburgh in Dunedin.
Jays lose another and ruin great pitching by Cecil and all round performance by Davis.
Brett Cecil provides a superb performance today in three innings striking out 6 and overpowering this Pittsburgh team. Jays start off in the first with a hit by Davis that he turned into great double with his electric speed, sacrifice by Eric Thames to third and then an rbi single by Bautista to take an early lead but would not even get another hit until bottom of the 9th.
The other star today was Rajah Davis who also ran a ball down with great speed and threw the runner Pearce out at second with a play that would rival anything that Vernon could have done. Toronto fans are going to enjoy his play. Moises Sierra had one incredible catch in right, turned around and diving at the wall, that saved at least a triple.
The goat today, catcher Ryan Budde who dropped a high pop up in front of the mound off Scott Richmond, who was then burned by two runs with two outs. Another run was added as result of runner interference, it was type of game for the Jays but they didn’t deserve to win this one.
Antony Gose had a hard single which most of us thought would have at least scored Mastroianni from second but he was held at third, and then left on base in the 9th with Gose picked off at first.
Jon Rauch made his first appearance with a scoreless inning helped by his outfield, he is one big guy.
Disappointing result when the first inning start was so promising and Cecil pitched so well. Lind still missing in action with his bat, and his double play in the first shut down that promising start by Jays. Yesterday’s hero Jon Diaz had a start at second but could not duplicate his heroics.
Pittsburgh now 4-3 on the spring with Jays falling to 1-5.
