It must be Spring in Dunedin

Palm trees and blue sky in February it has to be Dunedin and spring training. This season full of promise or is it?
So far in the first three games the new Jays have failed to win or impress. Today against Halladay and the Phillies a great test. Jays coming into today’s game had yet to score a run, any run in the first two games. Not a great start at all. And behind 6-0 by the 4th inning it looked as if they would not score this game either. However in the 7th they break the duck and get their first courtesy of the second stringers with the high paid line-up long gone to the showers. Jays were to add two more in the bottom of the 9th including a nice sac fly by the new phenom Anthony Gose.
The final score of 6-3 did not tell the true story. Jays were outhit, outpitched and certainly out fielded as they committed five errors in this game. Everyone was a culprit Rivera in right giving a great impression of the Alex Rios saunter to miss a catchable ball, no speed this guy. Arencibia seemingly forgetting the guy on third trying to catch the player at second and allowing the player to score to make it 3-0. At least on that play the Jays coaching staff had a quiet word with JP when he returned to the dugout. Even Johnny Mc. playing for Aaron Hill at second did not escape fumbling a ball that he can swallow normally. But at least he had a nice hit to left. Bautista (?), well missing in action yet again. Taking third strike one at bat and another swinging at the first pitch. The only time Jays threatened Halladay and with two on and only one out, Jose swings at the first pitch for the out, ditto McDade. And the inning is over two pitches leaving two on base. Cito’s legacy far from over. Lind a non factor with bat and ball. Hard to know he played today. Escobar the only Jay to date to be playing consistently well but nothing to show for it today.
Jays pitching was not bad considering the early season but they were hampered badly by the lack of fielding throughout the game. Jo Jo Reyes with the start as Drabek had a stiff neck and was shut down precautionary. Reyes had a nice first inning but lost the zone in the second. Said he was rushing.
For the Phillies even without Howard they overmatched the Jays and with that pitching rotation they are my odds on favourite to go all the way. Halladay looks as if he could start tomorrow, throwing 93 consistently for his two innings. Jays fans gave him a nice ovation.
Great play: Dominic Brown playing in right threw a bullet one hopper to the plate.
The bad: I should have known it would be a bad day when I took my seat before the game and had two people in front of me both reading a Kindle. If you want to read people, go and sit in the back row, not two rows behind the Jays dugout, surrounded by fans. And worse still I notice they have season tickets, it will be a long month.
