Jays win a thriller in the 9th

Winless Jays facing the Rays and David Price this afternoon, not a good omen. First break is that Damon and Manny Ramirez are not in the Rays line-up neither is Evan Longoria. Jays respond with Brandon Morrow but no Bautista, Hill, and Snider still unavailable.

Jays get off to a great start in the second inning and thanks to a two run blast by Encarnacion over the right field wall a 3-0 lead off David Price who seemed to lose concentration after a good first inning.

The good: Lots of it today. Encarnacion home run, Mastroianni with leadoff single in the 9th.Sacrifice Bunt by Jacob in the 9th to set up winning run
Eric Thames yet again continues his streak with timely hitting, and Jonathon Diaz with winning two run rbi in the bottom of the 9th for come from behind win for Jays and their first of the spring. How tall is Jonathan Diaz? According to the baseball guide 5’8’ but he looks six inches shorter than that as he is mobbed by his teammates who run to second to congratulate him.
Anthony Gose starting today in centre and another superb steal plus a great throw from centre to hold the runner at third. Respect already. This guy is a beauty to watch off first base. We may not see him in Toronto until September call-up but he will be a treat to watch this season wherever he is playing.

Pitching: Morrow a great three innings. Mills, Frasor, Camp and Janssen to complete the first class effort this afternoon. The pitching so far has not been the Jays problem.

The bad: Octavio Dotel giving away the 3-1 lead with 3 runs in the 6th.
Other news: USA Today has an article by Seth Livingstone on the five top rookies and a nice piece on Kyle Drabek plus a second article by Steve Gardner on Jays pitching rotation strength.
Tomorrow the Pirates in Dunedin with Brett Cecil scheduled to start against Charlie Morton for Pittsburgh.

The very bad: The Kindle readers back again.
