Toronto 8 Cincinatti 4
First 2008 Dunedin win.
My first Spring training game. What could be better way of spending a March ! Sunday afternoon in 78F blue sky and gorgeous ball park in Dunedin. Loads of pale white snow birds enjoying the sun.... and listening to weather forecast from Toronto...
The good: The hitting, but mainly from the minors.
Great diving stop by Overbay, Matt Stairs hitting continues from last season, Eckstein hustle to first beating out infield single. Zaun's perfect throw to second to prevent steal. Tracey Thorpe good inning three up three down.
The very good: All round show of Buck Coats; Home Run first at bat, followed by base hit and stolen base resulting in his second run. Great diving attempt in centre field to almost snare ball. This guy from the Cubs minors looks a great find... swings like Sean Green, built like Rios...
The bad: Burnett miss at first base from the great save by Overbay, right through his glove.
Fielding all round very sloppy. not least Pedro Lopez and Sergo Santos. None of the first team apart from Matt Stairs appears ready.
The ugly.... Joe Inglett, wearing #1 but no way a Tony Fernandez, terrible blunder forgetting number of outs and ruining what would have been the one and only double play. Redeemed a little by his 2rbi home run in bottom of inning but needs to get his head in the game before threatening AaronHill at second.
Footnotes: Cito Gaston throws out first pitch gets warm welcome.
None of the bullpen regulars pitched last seven innings. No Griffey at bats.
Tampa Bay in game 1 last week, first inning a double steal by Crawford and Pena... Speed kills, sign of season to come with Tampa...
Team barbecue followed game, all of Toronto team either signing autographs or serving the food. City TV televised game !!!
