Sloppy Jays walk this one away and League is the goat today

Toronto v Cleveland.

Lineups: Toronto: Scutaro, Hill, Rios, Wells, Lind, Rolen, Overbay, Barajas, Snider and Purcey pitching.
Cleveland: Sizemore, DeRosa, Martinez, Hafner, Peralta, Choo, Garko, Crowe, Cabrera and Reyes pitching.

Jays lose this one 8-4. Purcey ten strikeouts in 4 2/3 innings but able to keep it close. Jays hitters finally get to Reyes but League blows this one badly. Jays were flirting with disaster all afternoon with 13 walks and lucky to not lose this by a larger score. The hitters could not rescue the bullpen today. Indians get their first season win and Jays leave town with a 5-2 record and having won their first two series which Cito will tell you is a great goal for the season.

Good: Vernon awakes, Rios also plus his steal. Has to do more of that. But that’s it today for the Jays as they lose this one.

Bad: Number of walks by Purcey and the bullpen. League is the goat today and lets game get out of hand in bottom of eighth after Jay hitters get back in it. No control. Sounds familiar after Ryan yesterday but to his credit Cito says he will stay with BJ as he pitches through this control slump. Overbay continues his poor play and probably time to give Millar an extended run at first base.

Top 1st: Scutaro flies out to right fielder Choo. Hill strikes out. Rios walks on a full count. Wells at bat, Alex steal second. I wish he would do more of this. Wells grounds to DeRosa at third base.
Bottom 1st: Purcey walks lead off Sizemore. DeRosa strikes out. Sizemore steals second. Cleveland has been running on Jays in this series. Pitchers have to tighten up. Wild pitch by Purcey and Sizemore to third base, error by Barajas and Sizemore scores. This is not a good start for Purcey. 1-0 Cleveland. Martinez walks on a full count. Second walk this inning. Hafner strikes out. Peralta at bat and strikes out. Purcey still strikes out the side.

Top 2nd: Lind at bat grounds out to Garko at first base. Rolen fouls out to Garko. Two quick outs for Reyes. Overbay at bat and strikes out. Lyle is having a rough start to season.
Bottom 2nd: Choo walks.Third walk for Purcey and second leadoff walk. Garko pops up to Hill.Crowe strikes out. Choo steals second. Second steal in two innings by Indians. Cabrera fly ball to Rios.

Top 3rd: Barajas lines out to Sizemore in centre field. Snider grounds out to Garko flip to reyes for the out. Scutaro at bat grounds to Peralta.
Bottom 3rd: Sizemore another full count and walks number four for Purcey in 2 1/3 innings. DeRosa at bat, gets hold of this one and it is out of here, two run home run. 3-0 Indians. Martinez at bat still no outs fly ball to Wells in centre field. Hafner at bat strikes out. Peralta singles to centre field. Choo doubles to right, Peralta moves to third. Purcey in trouble again with two in scoring position. Garko intentional walk. Number five to go with the five strikeouts.
Crowe strikes out. Indians leave two out there.

Top 4th: Hill doubles to centre field. Rios fouls out to Cabrera. Wells grounds to Cabrera, Hill to third. Wild pitch by Reyes Hill scores. Jays are on the board with first run. 3-1 Indians. Two down for Lind who grounds to first baseman Garko.
Bottom 4th: Cabrera strikes out. Sizemore fly ball to Rios. DeRosa strikes out. First three up and down inning for Purcey.

Top 5th: Rolen grounds to DeRosa. Overbay walks. Barajas fouled out to third baseman DeRosa. Snider fly ball to Sizemore in centre field.
Bottom 5th : Martinez strikes out, Hafner strikes out, number ten for Purcey but 100 pitches now. Peralta, singles to centre, Choo with two out. full count, Purcey needs to finish this off. Camp warming up. Walks him that’s it for Purcey today. 113 pitches. He did his job and has kept it close, the bats are missing today so far at least. Garko full count and walks, Camp has to throw strikes here. Crowe at bat. Lines it into RF two runs score. 5-1 Indians. Cabrera grounds out to Overbay for the third out but damage is done. The bats had better wake up here. One hit is pathetic.

Top 6th: Scutaro walks, good start. Hill wild pitch Scutaro moves to second. Fly ball to shallow centre, one down for Rios. Hitless again today. That’s better long hit to right field dropped by rf Choo in the sun. Scutaro scores and Rios with triple. 5-2 Indians. Wells also hitless Rios in scoring position. Finally Vernon connects on this one, into left field seats. 5-4 great swing Vernon. But more important three rbis from Rios and Wells. Long overdue his first of the season. Lind pops it up to DeRosa. Rolen now high fly ball to Sizemore for the out but Jays are back in this one.
Bottom 6th: Camp still out there has to hold them here. Sizemore at bat, grounds to Overbay. DeRosa at bat, walks. Martinez, need a ground ball here. gets it but into right field for a single. That’s it for Camp. Jesse Carlson in to face Hafner. Has been erratic in last two outings. Full count. Walks him to load the bases. Not what Cito wanted after getting back into this one. Peralta grounds to Rolen throw home and gets him. Two down. Choo with bases loaded. Fly ball to Snider in LF to leave bases loaded. Jesse gets out of this one. But it is not my imagination re number of walks nine today by Jays pitchers, far too many. Purcey had six and why he was over 100 pitches so early.. They are playing with fire.

Top 7th: That’s it for Reyes 96 pitches he did his job. Perez now pitching. Overbay hitless and hanging on to his position in this lineup. Millar is breathing down his neck. Walks here for Barajas. Flares it into shallow right. Overbay to second as he held up for possible catch. Snider now overdiue with two on here. McDonald running for Barajas. Snider bunting? too bad as he could hit one back to Toronto. But does the job and both runners move up. Waste of an at bat though. Scutaro with one down. That’s it for Perez. Jensen Lewis pitching we need a hit here Marco. Strikes out, ignored two good pitches in that count, not a great at bat Marco. Hill now with two in scoring position. Can he bring them in ? Fly ball out to Choo. Terrible… Cito’s ploy backfired, I would rather see young Snider swing away than watch Scutaro and Hill mess this one up.
Bottom 7th: Barrett now catching. Garko facing Carlsson, grounds to Scutaro. Crowe fly ball to Rios in right. Two down. (Asdrubal) Cabrera ( I love that name Asdrubal) full count, come on Jesse this is number nine guy. Singles into centre field. One on two down for Sizemore strikes him out but throw to second also gets Cabrera stealing. Four outs for Jesse.

Top 8th: Rios facing Lewis. Fly ball to Choo. One down for Wells. Vernon singles opposite way into right. He is starting to warm up in last two games. Lind at bat hitless today grounds into double play.
Bottom 8th: League pitching. DeRosa grounds to Scutaro. Martinez at bat, walks number twelve by Jays pitchers today, one reason why this game is so long. Hafner at bat, need a ground ball here. There it goes blast to right centre. two run home run and this game is getting out of reach. 7-4. Peralta doubles into right field corner. League is all over the place. Choo at bat singles into centre field another run scores 8-4 Indians. Garko grounds to Scutaro, great stop and circus backhand flip to Hill on to Overbay for the double play, great play. But League has already put Jays hitters in a deep hole.

Top 9th: Final chance for Jays. Kerry Wood not going to give up four runs. Indians want their first win badly. Rolen hitless like many other Jays today strikes out. Overbay takes first two pitches 0-2 in a hole again Lyle. Takes third strike. Cito Lyle has to sit, and get Millar in there. Lyle is having a very rough stretch.
Fans on their feet for final out. Barrett taking strikes what’s with this crew? Strikes out. Indians get first win of season and Jays give it away.

Not a good performance by this group today.
