Toronto v Detroit. Jays lose this one 5-1.
Lineups: Jays same, same and same again no changes from opening day lineup. Cito’s trademark.
Scutaro, Hill, Rios, Wells, Lind, Rolen, Overbay, Barajas, Snider and Litsch pitching.
Tigers: Granderson, Polanco, Ordonez, Cabrera, Guillen, Laird, Inge, Santiago, Anderson and Miner pitching.
However I think Cito may make (forecd) changes tomorrow. My opinion ? get Barajas and Overbay out of there. Overbay now 1-12. Looking awful, tentative and not good swing although his last at bat good swing but long fly out to centre. Barajas is not much better. Put Millar and Barrett in tomorrow Cito….. And if Rios and Wells are going to continue to walk you will need to put somebody in their power spots. OR at least split them up in the order.
The good: first inning back to back doubles by Scutaro and Hill to get run, Rolen. Pitching Frasor and Tallet. And that was it tonight. Although Yankees losing again in Baltimore was good news....
The bad: Litsch giving up three home runs (two by Cabrera who had four rbis night and is now 7-10 in Rogers Centre this week plus two walks), far too many pitches by Litsch, even though he settled his hitters did not have anything tonight. Vernon grounding into double play, continuing his tale of last season ? I hope not.
Snider still has a lot to learn about major league pitchers, he was totally embarrassed in his first at bat, on all pitches in his strikeout… Not the first time you will hear this, that perhaps another year in AAA playing every day would be kinder on this kid.
By the way friends, if you are going down to stadium, the food vendors have been upscaled and “up priced”. Even the water is now $4. My advice, eat before you go…. Why would a team increase their food prices in this recession ?
The attendance was around 12,000 tonight. Tomorrow is school day should be good noisy crowd but can the Jays hitters give them anything to get excited about ?
Interesting trivia. Tomorrow Jays Romero and Porcello for Detroit are both first round picks, 2005 and 2007 respectively.. This is the first time since draft began in 1965 that two first round picks will face each other in their major league debuts.
