Hill helps Jays win a marathon behind Romero and the bullpen supported by Wells and Gonzalez home run power

Game two Jays v Yankees. Saturday June 5.
Revenge time for the Yankees today, they will not want Jay to take two games in a three game series. Jays have tough game today against Pettite still arguably the best in this rotation. Young Romero has one of his toughest matchups, it will be interesting to see how far he can go. Jays bullpen of course is well rested so Cito can bring them in early if Romero gets into trouble.
Jays hitting was on display last night but Pettite will be pitching around Bautista today. The beauty of this lineup though is that they are strong all the way through and anyone of them on their day can hit it out. Cito is letting the lineup select itself as he did in 1992-3. But who can argue with that when they are producing ?

Lineups: New York: Jeter, Swisher, Teixeira, Rodriguez, Cano, Posada, Cervelli, Gardner, Russo.
Toronto: Lewis, Hill, Lind, Wells, Bautista, Gonzalez, Overbay, Buck, Encarnacion.

Pitching: Pettite v Romero.

Top 1st: Jeter leading off grounds to Gonzalez at short, throw to Overbay at first.. Swisher lined out to shortstop Gonzalez. Teixeira flied out to left fielder F.Lewis

Lines to Hill throw to Encarnacion at third to get Cervelli. Great double play.
Bottom 7th: Gonzalez, leading off gets hold of this one and over left field wall, Home run Gonzalez and this game is all tied up 2-2. Overbay strikes out.Buck grounds to Rodriguez throw to Teixeira for the out. Encarnacion full count and walks. Lewis grounds to Cano throw to Teixeira.

Top 8th: Swisher leading off full count and walks. Teixeira strikes out. One on one down for Rodriguez. Perfect grounds to third, Encarnacion throw to Hill at second throw to Overbay, Swisher out.

Bottom 9th: Chance here for Jays to finish this one here and go two up in the series. Gonzalez leading off strikes out. Overbay singles to centre. There’s the runner, two chances to bring him in. Buck pops up to Cano at second. Encarnacion strikes out. Extra innings game. Battle of the bullpens.

Top 10th: Gregg pitching. Gardner leading off strikes out. Granderson pinch-hitting for Russo. Granderson strikes out. Jeter with two down singles to left. It would be Jeter. Swisher full count and walks, Jeter to second. Gregg always makes it interesting. He must really be wired today to show the Tampa games were an anomaly. Teixeira with two on strikes out.
Bottom 10th: Gardner in at left field. Granderson in centre field. Marte now pitching.Top of the order for Jays. Lewis leading off pops up Cano at second. Hill 3-0 and walks on four pitches. Lind fly ball to right Swisher another great catch, that was at least a double and would have scored Aaron. Robertson now pitching. Marte only had two. Wells with Hill at first and two down. Vernon grounds to Jeter throw to second base Cano, Hill third out.

Top 11th: Camp now pitching. Rodriguez leading off grounds to Gonzalez at shirt for throw to Overbay. One down for Cano grounds to Gonzalez throw to Overbay. Two down for Posada fly ball to Wells.
Bottom 11th: Bautista leading off, full count and walks. That’s what we need here baserunners. Gonzalez grounds to Jeter throw to Cano at second throw to Teixeira, double play ball. Overbay singles to centre. Another chance for Jays bats. Buck fly ball to Gardner in left.

Top 12th: Cervelli leading off fly ball to Bautista. One down for Gardner singles to right.
Granderson fly ball to Wells in centre for the out. Gardner stealing and safe, Buck seemed to get ball tangled up and decides not to throw at second. Probably a smart play, lets wait and see. Jeter grounds to Encarnacion to first baseman Overbay

Two on two down for Buck, grounds to Jeter throw to Teixeira for the out and another golden opportunity lost to finish this one.

Top 14th: Cano leading off grounds out to Overbay, makes the out himself. Posada singles to right. Pena pinch-running for Posada. Cervelli strikes out. Pena stole second.
Gardner fly ball to right field Bautista.
Bottom 14th: Pena in as designated hitter. Gaudin now pitching. Encarnacion leading off 3-0 and walks on four pitches. Lead off guy on base, can Jays bring Edwin home? Lewis, bunting ? down to Rodriguez at third throws to first for the out but Encarnacion at second with only one down, great sac bunt by Fred. Wow that is rare for Jays. Only the third time this season and the other two were Johnny Mac. Cito getting serious here. Ok Aaron, breaks his bat, that’s better singles to left this will do it, here comes Encarnacion for winning run. Hill is getting mobbed by his teammates and rightly so, he has not had much to be happy about so far this year and that will give him some confidence for Sunday. Jays win a marathon. 3-2 but have the series and will be gong for that sweep tomorrow. That would be something.

The excellent: Romero going eight against a tough Yankees lineup. The bullpen for holding strong and coming back form those two horrible Tampa games. Vernon and Alex going deep for two more home runs for this hard hitting Jays team.
A great win that has so many implications. Holds Yankees, Jays gain on them and they keep Boston tied with them.
Tampa losing right now in Texas. Great game for the fans and a chance to show Toronto fans that this tea is very entertaining and worth returning whether or not Yankees are playing. This team will compete with any.
Let’s enjoy it whilst it lasts.
