Cecil gem supported by Bautista home run power to win number six

Game one of three. Jays v Yankees.

Have to forget this week's Tampa breakdown and start again.
Much bigger crowd tonight than usual and noisy with a lot of Yankee fans, but by no means a sellout. I hope the weekend games will be closer to the 40,000 mark as Jays are playing entertaining baseball.

Lineups: Yankees: Jeter, Swisher, Teixeira, Rodriguez, Cano, Posada,Thames, Granderson, Moeller.
Jays: Lewis, Hill, Lind, Wells, Bautista, Gonzalez, Overbay, Buck, Encarnacion.
Pitching: Burnett v Cecil.

Top 1st: Jeter leading off, grounds to Hill throw to Overbay at first base. One down for Swisher grounds to Encarnacion throw to Overbay at first base.Teixeira strikes out.
Bottom 1st: Lewis leading off, pops up to catcher Moeller one down. Hill singles back up the middle, Lind, hammers it to deep centre, Granderson makes great catch up against the wall, that was at least a run. Wells 2-2, down and away come on Vernon you have been laying off that pitch all season long, swings and misses to end this one.

Top 2nd: Rodriguez fly ball to Bautista in right, one down. Cano, strikes out swinging. Posada grounds first pitch to Overbay, takes it himself for the third out, Eight pitches for Cecil.
Bottom 2nd: Bautista, full count, whoa Jose, Yes sir, this one is HUGE off the third deck facing and Jays go out ahead 1-0. Number 17 for Jose career high already in first week in June. Gonzalez fly ball to right for first out, Overbay, 3-1 count, grounds to Cano throw to first for the second out. Buck grounds to Rodriguez throw to Overbay for third out but Jays are ahead.

Top 3rd:Thames, singles to centre, Granderson, grounds to Overbay steps on first throw to second not in time. One down. Moeller strikes out. Jeter with runner at second. Grounds first pitch to Encarnacion, long throw to Overbay to end this one.
Bottom 3rd: Encarnacion full count and walks. Lewis pops up to Rodriguez at third, one down one on. Hill grounds to Rodriguez throw to second base Cano over to Teixeira at first base, Encarnacion out.

Top 4th: Swisher leading off, full count and walks him, come on Brett, not a good idea with Texiera firs pitch swinging grounds to left. Two on and no outs. Rodriguez, Cecil in trouble here. Leadoff walks will do that you. OH YES Jays Alex, A-Rod grounds to short, Gonzalez to his knees to save this one, flips to Hill, barehanded catch, turns and throws over to Overbay to get A-Rod, what a double play. Cano with runner at third. Strikes out swinging but what a great double play to help Cecil out there.
Bottom 4th: Lind lines it to right for first out. Wells off the end of his bat rolls fair, Burnett let it roll up the line. Look at his face. Vernon gets away with that one grinning away at first, make him pay Jose. WWWWOOOWWWW he does it again, huge towering hit off the facing in third, almost exactly the same location as the first one. Here comes Vernon, here comes Jose and Jays are out 3-0. All courtesy of Bautista now with 18 home runs. Is he ever in the zone. Burnett looks sick. Gonzalez full count and walks. Overbay grounds to Cano at second throw to Teixeira for the out, Gonzalez moves up to second. Buck with runner in scoring position, grounds to Rodriguez at third, throw to Teixeira to end this one but damage is done and 3-0 Jays.

Top 5th: Posada grounds to Cecil throw to Overbay, one down.Thames grounds to Overbay takes it himself for the second out. Granderson fly ball to Lewis in left. Cecil also locked in so far.
Bottom 5th: Encarnacion leading off, there she goes, another home run off Burnett, number three tonight and Jays go out 4-0. Lewis fly ball to Thames in left. Hill fly ball to Granderson in centre field. Two down. Lind walks. Wells with runner at first and two down, strikes out.But Jays have added another.

Top 6th: Moeller doubles to centre. Jeter singles to centre, Moeller moves to third. Cecil in trouble again. Swisher, grounds to Gonzalez, to Hill over to Lyle at first double play ball. Moeller comes home to give Yankees their first run but Jays will give that for two outs. 4-1 Jays. Teixeira lines Gonzalez at short for third out.Yankees get one back but it could have been much worse.
Bottom 6th: Bautista full count and walks. Burnett just cannot get him out tonight. Gonzalez singles to centre, Bautista to second. Two on for Overbay, grounds to Teixeira at first for the out, Bautista to third, Gonzalez to second. Two in scoring position for Buck, oh, AJ not your night, wild pitch and here comes Bautista for his third run tonight, Gonzalez moves up to third, Still only one out. 5-1 Jays. Buck that should do it, lofts this one to Granderson in centre, Gonzalez tags and comes home for run number six. 6-1 Jays. All six against Burnett. Encarnacion grounds to Rodriguez throw to Teixeira at first but Jays have added two more.

Top 7th: Rodriguez doubles to left. Cano pops up to Encarnacion at third. One down.Posada grounds to Encarnacion throw to Overbay. Two down. Thames fly ball to Bautista in right to end the inning.
Bottom 7th: That’s it for AJ tonight. 103 pitches, six earned runs and four walks but the three home runs hurt him tonight. Mitre now pitching. Lewis strikes out. Hill full count and walks. Jays aseem to be far more patient here tonight. Good to see. Lind grounds to Cano at second throw to Jeter, Hill out. Wells grounds to Rodriguez throw to Cano at second to get Lind.

Top 8th: Young Cecil still out there. Has pitched extremely well tonight. Really only in trouble twice. Granderson lines Bautista in right. Moeller pops up to Overbay at first. Two down for Jeter strikes out. Cecil 105 pitches only one walk tonight to go with the five strikeouts and only one run. That will probably be his last, but who will pitch the ninth? If this holds up it gives the bullpen another day to rest those arms. Especially Downs and Gregg.
Bottom 8th: Bautista what a night has had, two home runs and a walk. Again doubles this one one into left. A perfect night for him tonight. 3-3 with a walk. Gonzalez fly ball to Thames in left.
Bautista going to third, here comes the throw and Bautista out at third. Well almost a perfect night. I think somehow most Jays fans will forgive him. Overbay strikes out.

Top 9th: Mystery pitcher is Frasor. Swisher full count and walks. Can you hear those groans, everyone thinking please not again. Not with his lineup. Teixeira strikes out. That’s better one down with one on. Rodriguez pops it up to Lewis in left. Two down with Swisher at first. Here we go Cano fly ball to Lewis. Jays win big tonight behind Gala performance by Bautista.

The excellent: Young Cecil, goes eight very strong innings to shut down a powerful offence. Now 6-2 on the season. What a great surprise he has been. Of course Bautista with his perfect night and most specifically his two home runs off Burnett which finished off AJ tonight. Bautisdta also the only player on either side to get more than one hit tonight. Jays hitters show patience and take five walks tonight.
The bad: No not tonight. Nothing. An excellent evening to put Tampa games behind them.
Tomorrow Game two and a Saturday afternoon crowd, let’s hope it is a very noisy sellout.
