Game one of three San Fancisco Giants v Jays. Friday June 18.
More inter-league play but the final nine will be home games and played with AL rule and the DH. I think that hurt Jays in a tough schedule.
Lineups: Giants: Torres, Sanchez, Huff, Uribe, Burrell, Sandoval, Posey, Molina, Rowand.
Jays: Lewis playing in centre tonight whilst Vernon plays DH. Cito giving Vernon some rest here. Hill, Lind, Wells, Gonzalez, Bautista, Overbay, Encarnacion, Molina.
Pitching: Zito v Morrow
Top 1st: Torres leading off pops up to Encarnacion at third. One down. Sanchez singles to left. Huff singles to right, Sanchez to third. Uribe strikes out. Burrell 3-0 and walks on four pitches, Huff to second. Sandoval with bases loaded and one down 3-0 count. Ball four, and Sandoval walks here comes Sanchez for the first run. 1-0 Giants. Posey grounds to Gonzalez over to Hill, Sandoval out. 36 pitch inning for Morrow. He will not be lasting long tonight if he continues to pitch like that.
Bottom 1st: Lewis leading off fouls out to left field Huff. Hill pops up to second base Sanchez. Lind fly ball to Huff in left field. Only eight pitches for Zito I hope this does not continue or it will be short night for Morrow. Three up and down.
Top 2nd: Molina leading off provides a nice shot of the two brothers. I wonder who has the advantage in this situation. Molina grounds to Hill at second base throw to Overbay first baseman. Rowand grounds to third base Encarnacion throw to Overbay.Two down for Torres pops up to Hill at second.
Bottom 2nd: Wells leading off pops it up to catcher Molina. One down for Gonzalez fouls out to Posey at first. Bautista grounds to Sandoval who throws to Posey. Quick three up and down again, Zito appears to be cruising here.
Top 3rd: Sanchez leading off strikes out. Huff full count and walks. Uribe grounds to Gonzalez flip to second base Hill, throw to first Overbay, double pay ball.
Bottom 3rd: Overbay leading off strikes out. Encarnacion walks.
Molina grounds to first base Posey throw to Uribe, Encarnacion out. Lewis with two down fly ball to Rowand in centre to end another quick inning by Jays hitters.
Top 4th: Burrell leading off strikes out. One down for Sandoval, grounds to Gonzalez at short, throw to third. Posey strikes out.
Bottom 4th:Hill leading off fouls out to shortstop Uribe. Lind strikes out. Wells pops out to Uribe at short.
Top 5th: Molina leading off grounds to Encarnacion throw to Overbay. One down. Rowand fly ball to Lewis in centre two down. Torres singles to centre. Sanchez long fly ball to Lewis in centre. A good inning for Morrow but too little too late he is nearing 80 pitches.
Bottom 5th: Gonzalez leading off infield single to short. Bautista hit by a pitch, Gonzalez to second. Lots of reaction to that one, Giants players believe it hit the bat. Two on for Overbay grounds to short, safe in the throw and Bases now loaded with nobody out. Gonzalez to third, Bautista to second. Encarnacion one of the few Jays tonight with a good game. Encarnacion lifts on into shallow left but this is enough here comes Gonzalez and here comes Bautista, Lyle moves to second. Jays take the lead 2-1.
Molina bunting to catcher Molina throw to third Sandoval, Overbay out, Encarnacion to second. Lewis grounds to Sanchez flip to shortstop Uribe on to first base Posey to get Molina out.
Top 6th: Huff leading off doubles to centre. Uribe with one on is hit by a pitch. Two on for Burrell, singles to right, Huff to third, Uribe to second. Huff coming all the way and Bautista throw is relayed by Hill to get him at the plate. Very nice play. Sandoval grounds to Gonzalez over to Overbay for the out but here comes Uribe and Burrell to third on the play. Giants have tied this up 2-2. Posey fly ball to Lind.
Bottom 6th: Hill leading off fly ball to Rowand in centre, one down for Lind, strikes out. Wells with two down, strikes out.
Top 7th: That’s it for Morrow, I am surprised he lasted this long after that first 36 pitch inning. Frasor now pitching. Molina leading off strikes out. Rowand strikes out. Torres strikes out. Frasor does an excellent job here.
Bottom 7th: Gonzalez leading off, fly ball to Rowand in centre, one down. Bautista grounds to Uribe at short, throw to Posey. Two down for Overbay. Grounds out, second baseman Sanchez flip to Posey at first base for third out.
Top 8th: Downs now pitching. Sanchez leading off fly ball Lind in left, one down. Huff grounds to Encarnacion throw to Overbay. Two down. Uribe grounds to second base Hill on to Overbay for another quick inning by Zito.
Bottom 8th: Encarnacion leading off, this one is out of here, lifts it high into left field seats, home run for Edwin and the lead. 3-2 Jays. Molina singles to right. Lewis strikes out, one down. Hill fly ball to Rowand in centre
Top 9th: Wise in left field for Lind defensively. Gregg pitching. Burrell leading off grounds back to pitcher Gregg, throws a bullet to first baseman Overbay. Sandoval grounds to Overbay for the unassisted out. Posey with two down, great play by Encarnacion, what a stop by the third baseman, Posey grounds the ball very hard to Encarnacion, great play by Edwin, on to Overbay at first base for third out.
The excellent: Encarnacion, Jays bullpen. Encarnacion also makes the first and the last out, and the three runs in between, sees fair to me for MVP tonight.
Not good: Morrow that first inning was horrible, just could not throw a strike. Yes he lasted six but he definitely did not his best stuff tonight. Zito by comparision was calm, cool and collected and pitched a gem.
