Tallet and Frasor no help today but Lyle gets an RBI.

Jays v Angels Game 2 Saturday April 17.

Tallet v Saunders. Don’t expect anything from Jays today. Tallet needs run support to be effective and right now there is no run support from this team. They are very flat.

Question to me why I was so hard on Accardo last night and not Travis for that two run hit to the wall that Travis misread in right. Accardo threw around 30 pitches last night for ONE inning and that was NOT Snider’s fault. Yes the mistake cost two runs but Accardo was in trouble the whole inning and threw far too many pitches to get three outs. And sitting at the game watching him it felt as if that inning was at least 20 minutes long. He was slower than “Frasor time”. A lousy outing.

Lineup: Angels. Aybar, Kendrick, Hunter, Matsui, Morales, Rivera, Napoli, Wood, Willits,
Jays: McCoy, Gonzalez, Lind, Wells, Overbay, Bautista, Ruiz, Molina, McDonald

Snider sitting, Overbay in. Ruiz in.

Top 1st: Aybar walks, great start. Hendrick gets hold of this one into centre field seats, two run home run. His first of the season. Tallet left that right over the plate and just like that Jays are down and still no outs. This could be a long day for Tallet. Hunter, fly ball to Lind in left, Matsui pops up McDonald at third today, Morales grounds to McCoy at second throw to Overbay for third out but Tallet has already put Jays in catchup in first inning. Angels ahead 2-0.
Bottom 1st: McCoy, fly ball to Hunter in centre, Gonzalez grounds to short throw to first two down for Lind. Lind grounds to second throw to first three up and down.

Top 2nd: Rivera, gets hold of this one deep into left, another home run. 3-0 Angels. This will be a long afternoon for Tallet again. At least it may help bring up Cecil earlier from AAA and put Tallet in long relief where he is far better suited. Napoli grounds to second throw to first for one down. Wood strikes out. Willits pops up to Overbay for third out but Jays in big hole already. Tallet 38 pitches.
Bottom 2nd: Wells leading off. First pitch, high fly ball to Hunter in centre, one down for Overbay. Cito sticking with this guy. That was the pitch Lyle, lets it go. In the hole 0-2 already and that is one of his problems right now, pitch selection. He appears totally confused out there. And that was one of his strengths in recognizing pitches and talking those walks. Strikes out and you could see that coming after leaving that second pitch alone. Bautista grounds to short three up and down five or six pitches. No context today so far. 17 pitches for two innings for Saunders he loves this.

Top 3rd: Aybar, strikes out. Kendrick strikes out. Hunter, doubles to the wall in left corner. Matsui, full count, doubles to right centre. 4-0 Angels. Morales grounds to McCoy throw to Overbay for the out but Jays further in the hole that Tallet is digging. Now 62 pitches after three innings.
Bottom 3rd: Ruiz, grounds back to Saunders, throw to first. Molina, full count. fly ball to Willits in right, two down. McDonald, doubles down left field line. Crowd goes wild, am not surprised. They have had nothing to cheer about for today. McCoy, down the line Johnny Mc running on the play and safe at third as the ball bounces through Wood error on play and Johnny Mc comes in to score, HUSTLE. 4-1. Gonzalez with two down and McCoy in scoring position. Oh Wow…. Another error to Wood. Gonzalez grounds to third Wood bounces the ball to first and bounces away error on the play and McCoy scores 4-2 Angels. Lind now with Gonzalez in scoring position. Pops it up to short for third out but Jays are back in this. Poor Saunders.

Top 4th: Now can Tallet settle down here and not blow it open again? Rivera pops it up to Overbay. Napoli, full count. grounds to Gonzalez at shirt throw to Overbay, two down for Wood. Fly ball first pitch to left Lind. Well Tallet did his job this inning, now for the big bats. Will Overbay finally get a hit? Tallet pitch count now 77.
Bottom 4th: Wells leading off. Grounds to Wood at third throw to first for the out. Overbay .068. gets hold of it to the wall but long fly ball out, he hit it very well though. Small consolations. Bautista grounds first pitch to short, throw to first for the final out. Not a great at bat by Bautista. Not sure why Cito has him hitting lower down today for McCoy.

Top 5th: Willits, grounds to McDonald at third, throw to Overbay for the out. Aybar, doubles to left corner. Kendrick, fly ball to Wells in centre. Two down but Aybar moves to third on the throw and here comes ever dangerous Hunter. Camp now up in Jays bullpen. Fly ball to Wells in centre. 88 pitch count.
Bottom 5th: Bottom of Jays order. Ruiz, Molina and McDonald. Ruiz strikes out on three pitches. Molina, grounds to Kendrick at second, throw to Morales at first for the second out. McDonald. first pitch grounds to Kendrick at second, throw to Morales at first. Too easy for Saunders right now.

Top 6th: Tallet’s last inning? No already out. He dug a deep hole today early. Camp now pitching. Matsui, bounces to Overbay at first throw to Camp for the out. Morales, grounds to Overbay, takes it himself for the out. Two down for Rivera grounds to McDonald throw to Overbay for third out. Nice inning by Camp.
Bottom 6th: McCoy leading off infield single to short. Gonzalez at bat. There he goes McCoy steals second. Gonzalez fouls out to Morales at first base. Lind, oh no, McCoy picked off at second, Saunders throw to Aybar, McCoy out. Lind walks. That pickoff hurts. Wells grounds to short Aybar, throw to second base Kendrick to get Lind.

Top 7th: Camp still in there and why not. Napoli grounds to McDonald at third throw to Overbay at first. Wood grounds to McCoy throw to Overbay , two down. Willits singles to left. Aybar strikes out. Two scoreless innings from Camp and only 22 pitches, that is what I mean about Accardo.
Bottom 7th: Overbay grounds to Morales at first one down. Bautista doubles to centre. Ruiz fly ball to right field Willits, Bautista to third. Molina fly ball to Hunter in centre field.

Top 8th: Oh no! Frasor pitching. Hang on to those heart pills. Kendrick dribbles ball up third base line, Frasor leaves it but it does not go out. His decision, now he has one on that will slow him down even more. Hunter, strikes out looking at third strike. One down for Matsui. There goes Kendrick, throw not in time safe at second. Strikes out looking. Two down for intentional walk. Rivera, singles to right and here comes run number five Kendrick. Result of that decision to let ball roll fair. I have a petition for trading Frasor. The only advantage of him pitching in my book is that he is not the closer anymore. 26 pitches. Napoli full count and walks him, bases loaded. Lines it to Vernon in centre. That would have cleared the bases. But the fact is Frasor has made it more difficult for Jays to get three back. 5-2.Angels.
Bottom 8th: Saunders still in there, McDonald first pitch fly ball to right. One down for top of the order. McCoy, bounces back to Saunders throw to first, two down. Gonzalez full count. doubles off the wall in left centre, keeps inning alive but three runs appears to be beyond Jays today. Lind, lines it into centre, here comes Gonzalez, misses the plate with his slide and is tagged out. Next time Alex you run down the catcher blocking the plate.

Top 9th: Gregg pitching Willits doubles into right. Aybar bunting here, grounds to second throw to first one down but Willits at third. Fly ball will score. Kendrick singles into centre 6-2. Hunter, grounds to McCoy throw to Gonzalez back to Overbay double play ball.
Bottom 9th: The big bats have to earn their money now. Four runs to get back. Wells to lead off, will they pitch around him to get to Overbay? Jepson pitching. Vernon doubles to the wall. Overbay .065 average. FINALLY a hit, his third (of the season) doubles into left corner, here comes Vernon, 6-3. That’s it for Jepson. Perhaps now Lyle can relax and start to earn his money. This team needs that bat behind Vernon. When Aaron Hill returns at the end of next week it would be good to have everyone firing. Rodney now pitching. Bautista grounds (first pitch of course) to short, looks Overbay back and throw to first, one down for Ruiz. Another poor at bat by Bautista. Strikes out. Here comes Fred Lewis, pinch hitting for Molina his first at bat for Jays. From the Giants on Thursday. He can become a fan hero in this at bat. Last chance for Jays. 0-2 count. Strikes out. Sorry Fred, no medal for you today.

Jays lose 6-3 their second loss and the weekend series to the Angels. So far a lousy home stand with four to play. But don’t expect Kansas to be a pushover for this Jays team, they are NOT playing well at all and could be taken by the Royals.
Tallet put this game out of reach early and Jays were once again playing catch up but not with this lineup. Tallet and Frasor in the same game is too much of a handicap for Jays anyday let alone when they are struggling. They can’t afford errors of any kind and McCoy and Frasor had two too many.

The good: Camp two scoreless innings, Wells Jays hitters, five doubles including Overbay first of the season. Lyle getting the monkey off his back with the RBI double in the ninth.
The bad: Tallet put the Jays in a 4-0 deficit early in the game, Frasor with his decision to let dribbler roll fair, and hitters 2/11 with runners in scoring position.

Tomorrow Romero pitching.
