Jays v Baltimore Friday April 9.
Morrow v Bergeson
Johnny Mac playing for Aaron still injured with that hamstring.
Toronto: Bautista, Gonzalez Lind,Wells, Overbay,Buck, Encarnacion,Snider, McDonald. Beregeson pitching.
Baltimore: Roberts, Jones Markakis, Tejada, Scott, Wieters, Reimold, Atkins, Izturis.
Top 1st: Bautista singles to right. Gonzalez, Bautista running first pitch but Gonzalez fouls it back, have to protect Alex , just swing and miss. Bautista had that stolen easily. Strikes out. Lind full count, there he goes but ball four, two one one down for HR king Vernon. First Jays to hit hrs in first three games of the season. Singles into left, bases loaded for Overbay full count, this will do for one at least hammers high sacrifice fly ball to Jones in centre and here comes Bautista. 1-0 Jays. Two down for Buck with two on. Buck the same shot but this time off the glove of Jones as he gets turned around and both runners score 3-0 Jays. Buck at second, Encarnacion at bat, rough start for Bergeson grounds to short long throw and gets him but Jays are out in front.
Bottom 1st Morrow has a lead to work with. Walks Roberts. Not what he wanted to see. Jones there goes Roberts, no surprise there except that there was no pitch out everybody in the stadium knew he would be going. Morrow hits Jones in the shoulder, two on. Not getting any better here. Markakis two on and no outs. This guy just loves Jays pitching. Walks him to load the bases. Cito must be seething…Tajada first pitch. singles up the middle two runs score 3-2 just like that. Scott with two at the corners and still no outs strikes him out. Only one down though. Wieters full count, 26 pitches so far. Walks him and bases loaded again. Here comes coach maybe a little late here, Morrow is awful. Reimold 3-0 now walks him in on four pitches and the tying run. 3-3. Bullpen already up. Atkins. That’s better, finally a ground ball to Gonzlez on to Johnny Mac on to first double play to get out of this horror inning. Not sure Morrow will be out there next inning. Four walks and a hit batsman.
Top 2nd: Lugo in for Roberts at second base, word is that Roberts injured himself on that slide stealing second. Snider singles to right. Good start Travis. Johnny Mac in the game for Hill and playing second, grounds to shortstop Izturis at shirt on to Lugo to first base Atkins, double play ball. Sorry Travis. Bautista pops up to first base Atkins. Much better inning for Bergeson.
Bottom 2nd: Morrow getting another chance but he will be on short leash. Izturis fly ball to left field Snider. One down. Lugo strikes out. Jones strikes out. Is this the same pitcher from first inning ?
Top 3rd: Gonzalez swinging first pitch and this one is out of the park in right centre, home run number two this week. Same position as his home run in Arlington. What a change from his dismal hitting in Dunedin. Lind grounds to first base Atkins. One down for Wells. Vernon pops up to Logo at second base. Overbay fly ball to left field Scott.
Bottom 3rd: Markakis grounded out, shortstop Gonzalez to first baseman Overbay. Tejada grounds to short Gonzalez throw to first base Overbay. Scott strikes out. Morrow a different pitcher out there now.
Top 4th: Buck doubles to left. Encarnacion lines out to right field Markakis. Too shallow for Buck to move up. Snider grounds to second base Lugo throw to first base Atkins, Buck to third. But that could have been a run if Encarnacion had hit harder for his out. Little things. Johnny Mc. strikes out.
Bottom 4th: Wieters grounds to second base McDonald throw to first base Overbay. One down.
Reimold full count and walks. Atkins singles to centre, Reimold to second. Izturis with two on fouls out to third base Encarnacion for the second out. Lugo strikes out.
Top 5th:.Bautista doubles to left. Gonzalez grounds out, shortstop Izturis and throw to first basem Atkins. One down. Lind singles and Bautista scores 5-3 Jays. Wells pops out to first base Atkins. Hendrickson now pitching. Overbay fly ball to centre field Jones. Another good one for Morrow.
Bottom 5th: Jones grounds to second base McDonald throw to o first base Overbay. One down. Markakis doubles to left. Tejada gets hold of this one home run to left and two runs score. 5-5 game. Scott pops up to third base Encarnacion. Wieters grounds out to second base McDonald to first baseman Overbay for third out.
Top 6th: Buck strikes out. Encarnacion strikes out. Snider walks. McDonald trying a bunt and catch to catcher Wieters.
Bottom 6th: Camp now pitching. I am very surprised that Camp was not in the game in the second after Morrow’s first inning. Turns out to be a good decision. Reimold grounds out, to third base Encarnacion long throw to first base Overbay for the second out. Atkins infield single to third. Speed hurts. Izturis at bat, perfect grounds to short Gonzalez to first baseman Overbay,
Top 7th: Bautista lines out to second base Lugo.Gonzalez pops out to second base Lugo. Lind strikes out.
Bottom 7th: Camp still out there. Lugo grounds to shortstop Gonzalez on to first base Overbay. Jones strikes out. Markakis full count and walks.Tejada singles to center, Markakis to third. Scott grounds to second base McDonald.
Top 8th: Johnson pitching. Wells strikes out. Overbay fly ball to left field Scott. Two down. Buck strikes out.
Bottom 8th: Janssen pitching. Wieters 3-0 and walks on four pitches. Pinch-running for Wieters is Pie. Reimold fly ball to t to right fielder Bautista. Atkins fly ball to centre field Wells. Two down for Izturis. Singles to centre, here comes Pie to score and Baltimore back out front 6-5.Izturis to second. Lugo grounds out, catcher Buck throws to first base Overbay.
Top 9th: Tatum now catching and Jays down to their last three at bats need a run here. Gonzalez pitching. Encarnacion full count and walks. Good start. Snider at bat, wild pitch and Encarnacion moves to second. Travis you have chance here to bring him in, good boy, doubles here to centre, Encarnacion scores and Jays have tide it up again 6-6. McDonald sacrifices, first base Atkins to second base Lugo, Snider moves up to third. Bautista that should do it, sacrifice fly to Jones in centre, Travis scores 7-6 Jays. Meredith now pitching.Gonzalez strikes out.
Bottom 9th: Gregg now pitching. Cito reckons Frasor overworked in Arlington, the luxury of Gregg, Downs and Frasor as closer options. Jones fly ball to right field Bautista. One down. Markakis strikes out. Tejada strikes out. And this game is for the books. Jays win 7-6 with another ninth inning last minute show. Kevin Gregg gets his first save.
The good: Travis with RBI, two hits and a walk. Gregg scoreless inning to save. Jays 4-9 today with runners in scoring position. Janssen the only one of relievers to give up a run as Jays Camp, Janssen and Gregg tighten up for the last four innings. Two doubles from John Buck. Gonzalez definitely with his bat a second hime run. A totally different hitter from the spring training month.
The bad: First inning by Morrow. He went five innings with five strikeouts but with five walks and still only 84 pitches.
