Tuesday May 6, 2008 Jays v Rays.
May 2004 last time Jays won six straight. But this is a very good team they are playing tonight.
Lineups:
Rays: Iwamura, Crawford, Upton, Pena, Longoria, Hinske, Navarro, Gross, Bartlett, Sonnanstine pitching.
Jays: Rios, Stewart, Rolen, Stairs, Wells, Overbay. Hill, Zaun, Eckstein and Burnett pitching.
Good: Burnett ten strikeouts but not dominant. The bullpen of Tallet and Camp to hold Rays scoreless. Vernon’s triple. Overbay double of CF wall. Stairs as ever. Wells and Rolen.
The bad: Eckstein injured. Rios at bats. My theory is as he has not had a good full season in last two years it may be the second half when he wakes up. Hope the others can carry him until then but right now he is NOT earning his big contract. Of course that could be the other reason….
The very bad: Johnny Mac injured.
The game
Top 1st: Iwamura strikes out. Crawford grounds out to SS. Upton strikes out.
Bottom 1st: Rios grounds out to Navarro. Stewart grounds to 3B. Rolen fly ball to Gross.
Top 2nd: Pena strikes out. Longoria strikes out. Hinske strikes out. Nice Pitching AJ.
Bottom 2nd: Stairs single to RF, first hit of game. Wells bounces to 2B Stairs out but Wells safe, Overbay Wells caught in rundown, looked like hit and run that Lyle misses, Overbay singles to LF. Hill pops up to Bartlett.
Top 3rd: Navarro pops up, Eckstein cannot get there with dive, thousands wonder would Johnny Mac ?, Gabe Gross walks him on four pitches, two on no outs. Bartlett bunts but ball foul, lines out to Stewart, throw by Shannon Navarro safe, one down. Iwamura wild pitch, runners move up, singles to RF, Navarro scores. 1-0 Tampa. Gross at 3B. Crawford at bat fly ball to shallow RF, Rios throw up the line off target, two down. Gross scores on throw 2-0 Rays. Upton singles up the middle Iwamura scores. 3-0 Rays. Pena at bat, strikes out.
Bottom 3rd: Zaun at bat singles down right field line. Eckstein double over Upton’s head in CF, Zaun scores from 1B, 3-1 Rays. Rios at bat, Alex we need big one here. Up high, strikes out. Stewart single to RF, Eckstein to 3B. Two on one out for Rolen. High sac fly ball to deep CF, Eckstein tags and scores 3-2 Rays. Two down. Stairs at bat, grounds out to Iwamura.
Top 4th: Longoria strikes out. Hinske doubles to LF, Navarro pops up to SS. Two down. Gross at bat, Hinske steals 3B. Burnett didn’t even check runner. Gross strikes out.
Bottom 4th: Wells triple RF center, Overbay sac fly to Crawford LF, Wells scores 3-3. Hill fly ball to CF Upton. Zaun grounds to Sonnanstine.
Top 5th: Macdonald in at SS. Eckstein has groin injury from that dive in 3rd. Bartlett single to CF. Iwamura pitchout lines double to CF, Bartlett scores but throw gets Iwamura at 3B. 4-3 Rays. Crawford pops to McDonald, Upton single to RF, Upton steals 2B throw wild and Upton goes to 3B. Pena strikes out.
Bottom 5th: Johnny Mac single up the middle. Rios at bat strikes out, Alex is awful right now 0-9. Stewart grounds to SS, throw just gets Stewart. Johnny Mac at 2B. Rolen walks on four pitches. Stairs at bat 68 pitches for Sonnanstine grounds out to Longoria.
Top 6th: Longoria fouls out to Zaun. Hinske HR to CF off the restaurant roof, 5-3 Rays. Navarro grounds to Hill. Gross into the hole between 3b and 2B Johnny Mac dives for ball. OH NO! Mac is injured on the play, looks like right ankle injury this is not good. Cart drives him off. Scutaro in Bartlett strikes out. Number ten for Burnett. Just as Johnny Mac gets chance to play he is injured.
Bottom 6th: Wells chopper to 2B, Iwamura throw not in time. Wells safe. Overbay doubles off top of wall in CF just misses HR. Wells scores 5-4. Hill fly ball out to Crawford. Zaun infield single to 1B. Overbay to 3B. Scutaro grounds to SS double play.
Top 7th: Tallet pitching. Iwamura grounds to Hill; Crawford, walks on four pitches. Upton Pena at bat, strikes out Pena. Fourth strikeout for Pena.
Bottom 7th: Wheeler pitching. Rios long overdue, strikes out. Stewart grounds out to Longoria at 3B. Rolen fly ball to CF. Scott has not been same since his day off. He was really locked in before then.
Top 8th: Tallet still in there. Longoria walks. Hinske grounds to RF hole and Hill nice play throws Hinske out. Navarro grounds out to Rolen at 3B.Gross at bat, strikes out, leaves Longoria at 3B. Nice inning for Tallet.
Bottom 8th: Boston has already won 5-0 in Detroit. Stairs, grounds to Pena at 1B. Wells grounds to SS, Bartlett bounces ball to get Vernon at 1B. Overbay seems to be more settled right now, walks this time. Hill first pitch swing fly ball to CF.
Top 9th: Camp pitching. Bartlett strikes out on three pitches. Iwamura strikes out. Crawford at bat, careful here Shawn, grounds to Rolen at 3B. Nice pitching Shawn.
Bottom 9th: Percival pitching. Zaun at bat, pops up to Bartlett, one down. Scutaro strikes out. Rios $65 million man what can you do ? fly ball to Upton.
This game is over. Win streak ends at five. Not a good night tonight and also losing two shortstops.
Good news Yankees lose.

eckstein injury doesn't look too bad... johnny mac injury broke my heart to watch............... the jays need him desperately..... i guess now only time will tell.
tonights game... meh.... how did they let 5 runs get scored?! the jays haven't let that happen for a while. they've been doing so well defensively. althought you could feel it slowly building up in the 3rd, things just weren't going well. then eckstien's injury led to j/mac's injury... oh boy. our two best defensive players (arguably) gone. PERFECT.
yikes.
i'd like to kick rolen and hill in the butt and tell them to get out of their slumps ASAP.
the boys need to get in the groove AT THE SAME TIME.
