Perfect inning for McCoy as Jays get hammered by Red Sox

Red Sox v Jays. Game two of three.

Lineups: Red Sox: Ellsbury, Pedroia, Gonzalez,Ortiz, Lowrie,Crawford, Scutaro, Drew, Varitek and Lackey pitching.

Jays: Escobar, Patterson, Bautista, Lind, Encarnacion, Molina, Davis, Nix,McCoy and Morrow pitching.

Only four hitters out of nine in today’s line-up. Hardly a line-up to strike terror in Red Sox hearts today. Escobar back. No Rivera, Encarnacion or Hill. Why John? And that short bench has to get longer.

Top 1st: Ellsbury leading off, strikes out. Good start Brandon. Pedroia full count ball four, one on one down for Gonzalez drives it to Bautista, Pedroia holds, two down one on. Ortiz singles to Bautista right, Pedroia to third. Lowrie with runner at third, not this time pops up Escobar at short to end the inning. Red Sox send five men to the plate.

Bottom 1st: Escobar leading off, patience here, 3-0 count, ball four, much better for Escobar as leadoff. Patterson, with one on, strikes out. Bautista fly ball to Drew in right field, Escobar has to hold. Lind with two down, strikes out. Jays leave one on.

Top 2nd: Crawford leading off, strikes out. First strikeout for Morrow. Ex-Jay Scutaro getting a start today, grounds back to Morrow, ouch off his leg, throw to Lind at first, two down. That hurt, trainer out to check him. All ok. Drew fly ball to Patterson in left to end this one.

Bottom 2nd: Encarnacion leading off singles to left. He looks as if he is finally producing with his bat. Molina fly ball to Crawford in left. Encarnacion has to hold at first. Davis strikes out. Nix with two down, fly ball to Ellsbury for third out leaving another leadoff out there.

Top 3rd: Varitek leading off fly ball to Bautista in right, one down. Ellsbury singles to right. One on one down for Pedroia, singles to Davis in centre, Ellsbury moves to third on the play. Gonzalez, with two on, here we go, doubles to Bautista in right, here comes Ellsbury 1-0 Boston. Pedroia stops at third. Two in scoring position for Ortiz. Not facing him intentional walk to load the bases. Lowrie, with bases loaded, one down. Ouch Morrow hits him there comes another run and the intentional walk to Ortiz backfires big-time. 2-0 Boston and bases still loaded. Crawford, lifts this one to Patterson in left, here comes Gonzalez, 3-0 Boston. Scutaro, singles to Davis, here comes Ortiz run number four. Lowrie goes to third and Scutaro to second on the play. Morrow in all kinds of trouble here. 4-0 Boston and with two more in scoring position. Boston bats around. Drew finally, pops up to McCoy at short and Morrow gets out of this leaving two out there, but the door is wide open now. Jays need to get back into this one.

Bottom 3rd: McCoy leading off, strikes out. One down for top of the order Escobar, strikes out, two down for Patterson, fly ball to Ellsbury in centre. Three up and down meekly is not quite the way to get back into this one.

Top 4th: Varitek leading off, full count, ball off, leadoff walk by Morrow, his pitch count is not good. Ellsbury fly ball to Davis in centre. Varitek holds at first. Pedroia, gets hold of this one, doubles to Bautista in right, here comes Varitek, 5-0 Boston. Gonzalez with runner in scoring position and one down, strikes out. Ortiz no intentional walk this time, pitching to him, strikes out leaving runner at second. Makes one wonder what would have happened last inning if Morrow had pitched to Ortiz. But after four Jays in deep hole 5-0.

Bottom 4th: Bautista leading off, gets under this one and pops up to Pedroia at second, his misery continues, someone will pay when he finally breaks out of this. Lind, that’s better, doubles to left. Encarnacion grounds back to Lackey throw to Gonzalez at first, two down but at least Edwin stays out of a double play. Molina, two down and one on, ball four. Two on for Davis in 0-23 slump. This one should do it, doubles to centre, here comes Lind, and here comes Molina, he will be exhausted with that run from first.5-2 Boston. Nix, with Davis in scoring position. Fly ball to Ellsbury in centre to leave Davis out there. But Jays at least are on the board. Now Morrow has to close them down here but his pitch count is getting awfully high.

Top 5th: Lowrie leading off, fly ball to Davis in center, one down for Crawford, singles to Davis. One on for Scutaro, singles to left, Crawford moves to second. Two on one down for Drew, singles to right, here comes Crawford, 6-2 Boston. Varitek, two on, this one is BIG trouble, there she goes over the right field fence home run Varitek, three runs score and the rout is on 9-2 after only four innings. This is awful for Morrow, and Manager Farrell also thinks so, here he comes, that is it for Morrow today 4.1 innings but 103 pitch count. Ten hits and three walks, does not help the pitch count. It seems like none of these Jays starters can keep the count down. Frasor now pitching. Not his usual spot in the fourth inning. Ellsbury singles to centre.
Pedroia, one on one down, grounds to Nix throw to McCoy to get Ellsbury. No chance for two. Oh boy, passed ball, this is awful. Pedroia to second. Jays are playing like minor leaguers. Gonzalez full count, ball four. Two on two down for Ortiz. Walk him or pitch around him ?? Frasor pitching to him, full count, gets hold of this one, no doubt about it, over Bautista and the fence in right field and this game is out of control for the Jays. 12-2 !!!! and we are not halfway through this one. Lowrie started this inning, fly ball to Davis for the second time in the inning. Jays wish he had hit a third time. But now the question is how does this team struggle through the second half 10 runs down.

Bottom 5th: McCoy leading off, that’s a start, doubles to left. Escobar grounds to Scutaro throw to Gonzalez at first, one down. Patterson, with runner in scoring position, strikes out. Two down for Bautista, strikes out. Much too easy now for Lackey just has to throw strikes here.

Top 6th: Dotel now pitching. Crawford leading off, fly ball to Davis in centre, one down.
Scutaro, singles to left, he is loving his return to Rogers Centre. Drew, he hits him, why not we have had everything else this afternoon, Scutaro to second. Varitek, singles to Davis in centre here comes Scutaro. 13-2 Boston, no mercy given here. Drew to second. Two on one down for Ellsbury, fly ball to Patterson, an out, something to celebrate here. Two down for Pedroia, grounds to McCoy at second, throw to Lind at first to end this.

Bottom 6th: Lind leading off, singles to centre, his second hit which I guess is good today. Encarnacion with runner on first, gets hold of this one, over the fence in left, his second of the season, go figure why Edwin is hitting one. 13-4 Boston. Nobody out. Molina fly ball to Crawford in left, first out of the inning. Davis, one down, strikes out.
Nix with two down pops up to Scutaro. So much for the rally here. Jays lack of depth in hitting awfully plain to see in this series.

Top 7th: Rzepczynski now pitching. Sutton pinch-hitting for Gonzalez. Gets in the fun here as he singles to Patterson in left. No one seems able to stop this. Cameron pinch-hitting for Ortiz. Boston trying to give Jays a chance here with these pinch hitters. Cameron lines to Escobar at short. One down. Lowrie, strikes out. Two down. Crawford, wild pitch, Sutton to second. Crawford strikes out. Finally an inning without a run.

Bottom 7th: Sutton stays in at first base. Cameron stays as DH. Wheeler now pitching. Lackey eight strikeouts, a huge change from a month ago. Will we see such a change in Morrow in July? Maybe not because he may be on the Vegas bus this weekend. McCoy leading off, pops up to Sutton at first. Escobar fly ball to Drew in right, two down.
Patterson pops up to Drew to end this inning.

Top 8th: Casey Janssen now pitching. Not sure why Rzepczynski is not staying in there. Perhaps Farrell thinks he will need everyone again tomorrow? Scutaro leading off, grounds to second, beats the throw, Scutaro third hit today. Drew singles to right, Scutaro to third. The hit machine continues. Varitek full count, ball four to load the bases !!! this would be hilarious if it were not the Jays pitching here. Nobody seems able to get anyone out and Boston is going to continue to rub it in. Bases loaded nobody out. Ellsbury, grounds to Lind, here comes Scutaro, 14-4. Boston. Pedroia with two on and one down. Doubles to right, here comes Drew and Varitek, 16-4 Boston. Sutton, strikes out. Bronx cheers from Jays fans remaining. Two down for Cameron, full count. Ball four, that’s enough for Farrell, I still think Rzepczynski could have finished this one off.
Rauch now pitching. Lowrie fly ball to Patterson to end this inning at least with Boston scoring three more.

Bottom 8th: Even the Boston fans must be feeling sorry for this poor excuse for a team today. I am sure that Alex A is not a happy guy here. Great crowd as a result of the hard work this season done by Bautista, Lind and Arencibia for the most part which is being ruined this afternoon. Hottovy now pitching. Bautista leading off, full count, ball four, Hottovy or is it Fracona ? not daring to pitch to Jose even with a 12 run lead. Lind fly ball to Crawford in left, one down. Encarnacion strikes out. Molina, two down one on, ball four, second walk this inning by Hottovy walked, Bautista to second. Davis fly ball to Ellsbury in centre.

Top 9th: I have no idea what Farrell is doing here. McCoy pitching ??? Throw a garbage inning at Boston. Why not, he is not going to use up his pitchers. But certainly a long time since we saw a position player doing this. Encarnacion in at third, now we know he is trying to give Boston every opportunity. Nix in at second. Crawford leading off pops up to Escobar at short, one down well done Mikey. Scutaro fly ball to Patterson in left, two down. McCoy pitching better than the daytime guys. Two down for Drew grounds to Nix throw to Lind. Wow, only the second three up and down inning by Jays today. I would be embarrassed if I were a Red Sox. That is hilarious, McCoy ERA of 0.00.

Bottom 9th: Bowden now pitching. Nix leading off pops to third base Lowrie, one down.
Here comes the hero today, McCoy grounds to Pedroia at second, throw to Sutton at first. Escobar, ball four. We may yet see Jose for a final at bat. Patterson two down one on, pops up to Lowrie at third.

The good: McCoy the best pitcher of the afternoon. Encarnacion only his second home run of the season. Everything was upside down today.

The awful: you name it. When McCoy (pitching) and Encarnacion are the two best players today, you know the full moon is out in Toronto this afternoon.

Jays hitting non-existent and when they did manage to get someone on base the usual 1/7 with runners in scoring position. This was against a pitcher Jays hammered for nine runs in May. Eight strikeouts this time around. How to explain that. Wild pitch, passed ball, hit batsman, Jays pitchers had to all today, let us hope it is all out of their system now for a long time to come because the fans are fed up with seeing this, rebuilding or not they should be able to pitch straight. Morrow 103 pitches in 4.1 innings. Shortest outing for Morrow this season. Not quite as short as Drabek but not good enough. Boston score 21 against 5 by the Jays in the first two games this series.

The very worst: In front of an almost 40,000 crowd, second highest since opening day. The worst offensive and pitching display by the team all season bar none. What a display to get the fans back in the ball-park, however ironically this might very well be the stimulus to blow up this team and get some much needed changes. There is no way the owners will be pleased with this effort. Jays have huge holes in this team which have been papered over too long. Rebuilding it definitely is.

Lots of questions: Rzepcyznski why only one inning of work? Why the line-up choices? Do you lengthen the bench and shorten the bullpen? maybe not right now after this weekend fiasco.

Tomorrow Boston goes for the sweep and so far this weekend there is no reason to doubt that they will not. Drabek also pitching who has been far from strong so far this year. Could be another rout like today especially with the bullpen situation. But I guess McCoy could go out there.

Every Jays player should be looking in the mirror after this one and vowing tomorrow will be different, that is if they are not on the Vegas bus. Bautista looks as if he needs a break, maybe Farrell will give him one tomorrow even with an off-day on Monday.
