Jays v Royals Game three of four.
Escobar out of it tonight with bruised leg after that slide into second. Brett Lawrie broken bone in his left hand and will be out until after All-Star break. The fear of course is that he will lose his hitting stroke.

Royals: Gordon, Cabrera, Hosmer, Francouer, Butler, Betemit, Getz, Pena, Escobar, Daniel Duffy pitching.
Top 1st: McCoy leading off, grounds to third, throw to first, one down. Patterson, singles into right. Bautista, lines to Francouer in right, two down. Lind, Patterson stealing and safe on the throw. 3-0 count, ball four, two on two down for Rivera. 0-2 count, singles back up the middle and here comes Patterson, 1-0 Jays. Molina, with two on and two down. Full count, strikes out on ball four. 25 pitch inning.
Bottom 1st: Gordon leading off, full count, strikes out looking, one down for Cabrera fly ball to Davis on first pitch, two down for Hosmer 1-2 count, strikes out swinging at high pitch.
Top 2nd: Hill, 0-2 count, fly ball to Francouer in right. Davis lines it to Cabrera in centre, two quick outs. Nix, 3-0 count, ball four inside, one on two down for McCoy. Nix stealing but picked off and out at second.
Bottom 2nd: Francouer, singles into left, one on for Butler, 3-1 count, fly ball to Davis in centre, one down. Betemit, perfect, grounds to McCoy, Francouer out at second, over to first double play ball.
Top 3rd: McCoy pops up first pitch to first, one down. Patterson, first pitch back to Duffy, throw to first, two pitches two outs, garbage. Bautista, 2-0 count, 2-2 singles back up the middle. Lind, 3-0 count, high ball four, Rivera with two on and two down, 0-2 count, singles into left centre, here comes Bautista 2-0 Jays. Molina with two down and two on. 0-2 count, grounds to short, throw to first to get Molina.
Bottom 3rd: Getz, 2-1 count, singles to Davis in centre, one on for Pena, 3-1 count, ball four two on nobody out. Escobar bunts to third, Villanueva and Nix get mixed up and safe at first. Bases loaded for Gordon. Nobody out Villanueva in big trouble. Gordon, 0-2 count, 1-2 count, fly ball to Bautista here comes runner Getz. 2-1 Jays still two on for Cabrera. Oh boy drives this one high into right corner, home run Cabrera and Royals go out ahead 4-2. Hosmer bounces to Hill, throw to Rivera, two down for Francouer, lines it to Hill, throw to Rivera to end this one but Royals are out ahead.
Top 4th : Hill leading off. 2-2 count, pulls it into left, nice hit Aaron. One on for Davis, showing bunt, 3-0 count, way inside, ball four, two on for Nix. Takes ball one, good boy. 1-2 count, bounces one away, full count, taking or swinging? Runners going. Nix fouls it off. OH YES Jayson, gets hold of this one big-time, high into left over the fence, three run home run and Jays get lead back dramatic fashion 5-4. McCoy still nobody out. Royals bullpen working. Full count, lines it into centre, Cabrera runs it down, one down for Patterson. 2-2 count, grounds to short, Patterson with no throw to first. Bautista with one on one down. 1-1 count, oh boy Patterson running and picked off again, out at second, two down. Not good play Corey with Jose at bat. 2-2 count. Singles into centre. Patterson would have been at third on that play, bonehead play by Patterson. Lind, 2-1 count, 93 pitch count, that first inning 25 pitch inning didn’t help him.. Full count, fly ball to Gordon in left.
Bottom 4th: Butler leading off. Pops up to Davis in centre, one down for Betemit, pops up to Nix at third, two down for Getz, 2-1 count, grounds to Hill, throw to Rivera.Three up and down for Villanueva.
Top 5th: Nate Adcock now pitching. Rivera leading off. 0-2 count, strikes out swinging, one down for Molina, 0-2 count, strikes out swinging. Two down for Hill, pops up to first. Jays go very quietly and far too quickly. Not very fair to Villanueva he has hardly sat down.
Bottom 5th: Pena, lines hard at Rivera takes it himself to first base bag. One down. Escobar, drives to McCoy at short, two down. Gordon, singles over the head of McCoy into left centre. Cabrera one on two down. 3-1 count, bounces to Hill, throw to Rivera gets him. Villanueva doing more than they ask from him.
Top 6th: Davis leading off. Fly ball to Francouer in right, one down for Nix, full count, strikes out swinging, two down for McCoy. 3-1 count, ball four, walk to McCoy. Patterson, singles to Francouer, McCoy all the way to third and Patterson moves to second. Bautista with two in scoring position. Intentional walk to load the bases. Lind will love this. Ball one, HO HO HO Christmas comes early, Lind drives this to the wall in centre and into the seats. POWER.. GRAND SLAM and Jays have 9-4 lead. Rivera grounds to third, throw to first. Lind second career grand slam. WOW.
Bottom 6th: Hosmer, strikes out swinging. Francouer doubles off the wall in left, one on one down. Butler, grounds to short, Francouer was running on play and safe at third but Butler out at first, two down for Betemit. 1-2 count, strikes out swinging.
Top 7th: Molina leading off. Lines to third, throw to first one down. Hill, pulls it into left, one on one down for Davis, strikes out swinging. Nix one on two down. 0-2 count, grounds to short throw to second to get Hill.
Bottom 7th: Villanueva Getz, grounds to McCoy at short, throw to Rivera. Pena, 0-2 count, strikes out swinging, two down. Escobar, 2-2 count, fly ball to Davis. Villanueva 102 pitches, Excellent outing.
Top 8th: Everett Teaford now pitching. McCoy, bounces to Teaford but does not catch McCoy he can run. Patterson. Singles into right four hit night. Two on nobody out for Bautista, come on Jose your turn. 2-3 plus intentional walk. Strikes out, one down for Lind. Oh dear, lines it to second throw to the bag to double up McCoy. Not a good ending to that one.
Bottom 8th: Rzepczynski now pitching he had better be smarter than last outing. Could not throw strikes. Gordon, 0-2 that is one better than last time out. Strikes out swinging, one down for Cabrera, bounces to McCoy throw to Rivera at first, two down for Hosmer. 3-1, ball four. Francouer, 2-0 oh boy. Singles into left, two down and two on, thats it for Rzepczynski, no messing around tonight with him for the Manager. Dotel now, Butler, 3-1 count, goodbye ball, Butler slams this on into left field seats and this is a two run game. 9-7 game. Betemit, strikes out swinging.
Top 9th: Now some pressure on Jays to get some insurance here. Greg Holland pitching. Rivera leading off. 2-2 count.Juan Rivera strikes out swinging. Jose Molina strikes out swinging. Aaron Hill strikes out on foul tip.
Bottom 9: Casey Janssen now pitching. Getz leading off grounds to Hill throw Rivera at first one down. Pena singles to Davis in centre, one on one down for Escobar strikes out looking. Two down one on for Gordon doubles Davis in centre here comes Pena 9-8 Jays. Cabrera with runner in scoring position, lines out softly to McCoy at short. Jays win this one but should now have been so close. Manager Farrell has a problem with Rzepczynski. Does he send him down to sort out his control ?
Jays at least cannot lose this series and have a good shot with Romero tomorrow but it is those good shots this team are blowing.
The very good: Villanueva, deserved the win, takes the game deep. Lind grand slam and Nix his three run shot.
Not good: Bonehead play by Patterson getting picked off with Jose at bat in the 3rd. Rzepczynzksi puts the two on for the home run.
