Phillies power too much for Reds.

Tuesday March 17, 2009. Phillies v Reds at Bright House.

Phillies Win 8-1

Jays have off day so this scribe is at Bright House, great seat second row behind home plate.

Lineups: Reds: Tavares, Dickerson, Toronto’s own Joey Votto, Phillips, Bruce, Encarnacion, Gonzalez, Hanigan and Aaron Harang pitching.
Phillies: Utley, Bruntlett, Ibanez, Howard, Stairs, Feliz, Mayberry jr, Ruiz, and Myers pitching. This is some power lineup… from 1-8 although Myers also contributed with a nice single down the right field line.

Phillies show why they are World Champs with a power display today. Equally impressive almost six innings of great pitching by Myers. Manuel stretching out his rotation now with Myers hitting in bottom of the fifth and then pitching in the sixth. With two outs Myers did not like coming out and at first would not give ball to coach but relented and left to a great ovation.… But great to see that in the Spring!
Phillies relievers more than enough to retain the 6-0 lead in this one.

Mayberry again two good hits, a double and an infield hit that he showed his speed down the line. The scouts had their stopwatches out on this one.
Stairs also had a great at bat with 3rbi double in the second to start that six run onslaught.
I like the Reds Laynce Nix… some power in that bat with one foul down the right field line almost onto Route 19. He was also launching in batting practice.
Brad Lidge 41/41 in 2008 had an interesting ninth giving up the Reds run and facing five, with two hits and no strikeouts. It is spring... relax.

Myers gave up four hits and seven strikeouts in 5.2 innings, very impressive.

Ibanez, Mayberry his 5th, Ruiz, Bruntlett, Stairs, Ellison all had doubles today.
Another sellout at Bright. 9,202 at the game today.

Tomorrow Jays are at Bright House….

Good news is that Scutaro should be back with Jays. With the Venezuelan team he had ten at bats three hits and two walks.
Rios who will be playing tonight against the USA had two hits last night and in sixteen at bats three hits and four walks.

Meanwhile back in Dunedin he has some competition with far better stats…I hope we are not going to get another 2008 season from Alex. There you are Alex, that should be enough dissing to get you a four hit multi rbi game tonight. International TV against the USA, what more do you need ?
