Tuesday March 24, 2009. Jays v Phillies in Dunedin. Jays lose 7-6.
Lineups: Phillies: Rollins, Victorino, Utley, Howard, Werth, Ibanez, Felz, Coste and Ruiz with Park pitching.
Jays: Scutaro, Hill, Rios, Wells, Rolen, Millar Lind, Barajas, Snider and Purcey pitching. Power lineup today with Snider batting at ninth !!!
Jays take early 3-0 lead then 4-1. Phillies scratch back to tie it up 4-4, Jays again take a two run lead into top of the ninth where Phillies score three off League.
Jays get bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth but a controversial call that even Cito argued (in Spring ??) and Jays tying run was disallowed. Lane gives one a ride in the bottom of the inning but not enough today.
Some surprises today. Who was coaching the Jays ? Double steal and then a delayed steal to bring home runner from third. Aggression today from Cito, great to see. Perhaps more of it in the regular season ??
Purcey goes six today, not a bad outing although eight hits only two runs and kept the Jays in this one, two walks and the HR to Werth. BJ Ryan gives up a two run shot to Utley in the seventh and does not have a great outing. Downs had one hitless inning with a walk. Then in the ninth League could not hold the Phillies.
This one the Jays had…. Twice…
Todays hits for Jays two hits each for Scutaro leading off, Wells and Barrett who looks as if he has that back up catcher spot locked now.
Doubles for Wells, Millar, Scutaro, Barrett and Campbell. Two rbis for Millar and Wells, Campbell and Philliips get the others. Mathews, Wells, Rolen and Snider all have stolen bases today..
Snider had an unfortunate double error play dropping the ball and then fumbling the throw.
Lind had an assist on a great throw to get Feliz at home plate. Rios hitless today with one walk. Both sides had problem with the swirling wind today dropping catchable balls.
Good game but one that the Jays should have enjoyed winning.
