Doc sick today but Inglett is my goat.

Monday March 16, 2009. Jays v Red Sox in Dunedin.

Lineups: Boston: Ellsbury, Lowrie, Drew, Carter, Bard, Bailey, Angel Chavez, Nick Green, Dusty Brown, and Justin Masterson pitching.
Jays: Inglett, Hill, Lind, Overbay, Bautista, Lane, Snider, Raul Chavez, McDonald, and Halladay pitching.

Sellout crowd and hot hot hot…but not Halladay today at least. Jays lose this one 6-4

Halladay pitching and with a record of nine scoreless innings in three previous starts. That didn’t last long as he gives up one in first and adds three more before he is finished with his outing today. He faced 24 hitters in five innings with only one walk but eight hits and for him unusual three home runs two by Chris Carter ??? who had only one all spring before today. Halladay was lucky that all three hrs were with no one on base.
Jays out hit the Red Sox 13 -11 but not good enough today.

Lane 2-3 today back in his hitting groove. Lind and Snider also connect. Overbay looks as if he still needs loads of work on his swing, so tentative all the time. A single, walk and a strikeout today.
With Millar hitting the way he is, Lyle may find himself sitting more than he wishes unless he gets it together.

But back to Inglett, this guy is not a leadoff hitter and needs to get his head into the game. I have said this before in this blog but sometimes he just doesn’t think. Leading off the sixth, doubles to the wall tries to make it three and is thrown out at third. Now yes aggressive baseball is needed by this team, and yes maybe umpire had the call wrong, but Joe, you are leadoff with hitters number 2, 3 and 4 coming behind you… One of them should be able to bring you in from second. Sure enough Hill next at bat doubles down the line…

BJ Ryan had a good 1, 2, 3 inning, one strike out two flyouts. Burres, Bush and Perez, followed, none of whom I think will be in this team at the end of the week. Cito has seen enough of a very strong pitching core and needs to extend the starters in the last two weeks.

Halladay goes five today but would take a few of those pitches back that Boston hit out of the park. Three off Doc today, just not his day. Very few ground ball outs, six out of his fifteen outs but with five strikeouts.
Snider connected for his third home run of the spring after Jason Lane had lead off with his first of two doubles today in his three at bats.
Lane now thirteen hits in thirty seven at bats. Three doubles and four hrs has done more than enough in my book to hang around with this group when they head to Toronto. Vernon and Alex would be happy with this type of production.

Hill had his sixth double in his nine hits for the spring. Bautista another hit number nine in fifteen at bats !!! He looks very sharp. Chavez with one hit and rbi and certainly didn’t disgrace himself behind the plate.
Aaron Mathews had two hits today giving him three for the spring in six at bats.
Cito has excess of hitting (and pitching) loads of depth in this team friends.

More cuts today: Robert Ray, Jeroloman and Arenciba. That narrows the catching staff down to Thigpen, Chavez and Barrett but Halladay had Chavez today for a reason.
