Saturday March 14, 2009 Jays v Tigers in Lakeland.
Lineups: Jays: Adams, Hill, Lind, Overbay, Lane, Bautista (back from WBC) Ameus, Chavez and McDonald with Janssen starting.
Tigers: Inge, Polanco, Sheffield, Larish, Laird, Raeburn, Perez, Gomez, Everett and Willis pitching.
Well I really jinxed Casey today with my comment about him starting.
Here he is starting today and going three great innings. Two hits, one run, one walk. I hope they don’t put him in the rotation. Not that he is not good enough but just messes around with that relief corps. With Wolfe dodgy and Tallet not pitching that well. Add to that Bauer and Maroth on today's showing and Janssen to my mind is key.
Jays start off well getting to Willis in first inning. Three runs, Adams and Hill walks and Lind bringing them in with his first triple of the season and adding to his recent strong showing with the bat. Jays get another in the second and are up by four before Detroit gets on the board.
Janssen faces 14 in his three innings. Maroth however opens the door, facing seventeen hitters in 2. 2/3 innings, seven hits, including double, triple and home run to Laird, three walks and five runs in total. Horrible day for Maroth.
Error by Emaus
Chavez at least I get right, with his pickoff throw to get Larish at 1B. This kid has a great arm.
Adams DH today gets on base twice with walk and hbp comes round to score both times.
Bauer four runs on four hits in 1.1 innings. Bauer also self destructs in the seventh with four runs. Facing eight hitters.
Robertson and Bonine shut Jays down for 6 innings.
Jays will probably be happy with Janssen’s outing today and Adam Lind’s hitting but not much else. They leave 14 on base today.
Bauer and Maroth may just be out of the door in the next cuts.
Footnote: Cut yesterday was Buck Coats, last spring this kid was one of the highlights, not this year but hard to compete with Lind, Snider and Lane.
