Jays v Rays. Game two of three.
Rough loss last night for the Jays, need to forget it and hope that Morrow is lights out tonight. Still no sign of Bautista, or Hill.
Line-ups: Jays: Davis, Patterson, Escobar Lind. Rivera, Encarnacion, Cooper, Molina, McDonald and Morrow pitching.
Rays: Fuld, Zobrist, Damon, Longoria, Joyce, Upton, Kotchman, Brignac, Jaso and Niemann pitching.
Top 1st: Davis, grounds to Brignac at short throw to Kotchman at first, one down. Patterson, there goes Rajai steals second no problem. Patterson pops up to Jaso catching tonight for Rays. One down for Escobar, grounds to Longoria at third throw to first to get Escobar to third on the play, Davis moves up. Lind with Davis at third. 1-2 count, there she goes NO question about this one, turns on it and high into right field seats and Jays go out ahead 2-0. Adam is hot, hot. Rivera, way to go Juan, doubles to right centre. Encarnacion now, can he bring him in here? Hits him on the left hand glove. Cooper with two on grounds to second throw to first for third out. 29 pitch inning.
Bottom 1st: Fuld, grounds back to Morrow throw to Lind, one down. Zobrist, 3-0 ball four. One on for Damon. 1-2 pops up to left but Rivera cannot get there in foul ground. Bounces ball to Lind throw to second to get Zobrist but no chance for double play. Longoria with two down and one on. Whoa, great play, wild pitch gets away from Molina but recovers and still throws out Damon at second to end the inning. Great play Jose. 18 pitch inning.
Top 2nd: Molina leading off. Grounds to Longoria at third throw to first one down for McDonald. 3-2, grounds to Longoria at third, throw to first, two down. Davis, fly ball to left and Jays go very quietly this inning, pitch count 40.
Bottom 2nd: Longoria, 3-0 ball four, second walk tonight for Morrow. Joyce, strikes out swinging. Upton, very nice strikes out swinging. Payback for last night BJ. Two down for Kotchman, grounds first pitch to second, throw to Lind for the third out. 31 pitch count.
Top 3rd: Patterson, fly ball to right, not far enough. Joyce makes the catch in the corner. One down for Escobar, grounds to Longoria at third, throw beats him out at first, two down for Lind. Singles into centre. Is this guy hot or not? Rivera, NO Juan, come on. First pitch, pop up to second for the final out. Pitch count 53.
Bottom 3rd: Brignac, 0-2 count, strikes out, number three for Morrow tonight. Jaso, grounds to Johnny Mc. at second throw to Lind for second out. Fuld, 0-2 count, strikes out swinging on three pitches. Ten pitch inning. Pitch count 41.
Top 4th: Encarnacion, pulls it to left for a single. Cooper. Can he move him over here? Yes he can, doubles it into right and here comes Encarnacion to score 3-0 Jays. Molina, that’s much better sac bunt up the third base line and Cooper safe at third throw to first gets Jose. Johnny Mc. One down runner at third. Grounds to third, throw to first, no chance for Cooper to come home. Davis now. Awful, grounds to short first pitch, throw to first for third out. Jays once again unable to bring a guy in from third with only one down. Pitch count 62.
Bottom 4th: Zobrist, strikes out looking, number five for Morrow tonight. Damon, singles to left. Longoria lines it to wall in left; it is stuck under the padding, here comes Damon, throw to cut-off Escobar, Escobar’s relay, Molina blocks the plate and gets him, WOW great play by everyone two down. Longoria at second. Joyce, 1-2 count, grounds to Lind off his glove cannot make the play in time. Longoria to third. Upton, 3-1 count, careful here, whoa 98 mph swing and miss, full count, strike three looking, great pitching by Morrow. Pitch count 59. Six strikeouts.
Top 5th: Sonnanstine now pitching, Niemann has a back problem and his night is already over. Patterson, first pitch. Grounds back to Sonnanstine throw to first one down. Escobar, 3-0 count, lines it to right corner, Joyce makes the catch, two down for Lind 2-2 tonight. Pulls it into right, 3-3. Rivera, pulls (first pitch) to Longoria, I feel sorry for Lind.
Bottom 5th: Yankees losing 4-0 to Detroit. Kotchman, full count, ball four, walk number three for Morrow. Brignac, Kotchmann stealing and safe on high throw. Pops up to Morrow, Kotchman stays at second. Jaso, 2-2 count, grounds to Lind takes it himself for second out. Kotchman to third. Fuld, pops up to Rivera in shallow right. Pitch count 74.
Top 6th: Encarnacion, pulls it to Longoria at third, throw to first, one down. Cooper, high lazy fly ball out to Upton in centre. Two down for Molina, first pitch..... fly ball to left. 4 pitch inning for Sonnanstine. Not good hitting by Jays here.
Bottom 6th: Morrow hardly sat down. Zobrist, lines it past Escobar, safe at second. Damon lines it to Davis in right, here comes the throw, great throw almost gets him. One down for Longoria, full count. Ball four. That’s ok, sets up double play. Joyce, 0-2 count, fly ball to Davis, here comes Zobrist, 3-1 Jays. Longoria stays at first. Upton, strikes out looking for third time tonight. Pitch count 93.
Top 7th: Jays hitters have to get going here and give Morrow more support. Lay off that first pitch stuff would help. Johnny Mc. not playing very well for the last week. Bunting to Longoria at third but thrown out at first. One down. Davis, fly ball to Upton in centre, two down. Patterson grounds to first, Kotchman takes it himself. Jays bats gone cold at the worst time.
Bottom 7th: Morrow at 93 may not be for long in this inning unless he gets quick outs.. Kotchman leading off. Bounces over head of Morrow to Escobar, error to Yunel but that was tough play. His first error of the season and the last short stop in the league to make an error this season, that is very impressive. Dan Johnson pinch hitting for Brignac. Pops up to shallow right but Johnny Mc. makes nice catch, one down runner holds at first. Frasor working in the bullpen. 2-2 count. Singles to right, that’s the end of night for Morrow. Frasor now pitching. John Farrell ejected from game. Nothing dramatic, looked as if he was just talking to umpire. Fuld with two on and one down. Grounds to Encarnacion steps on the bag, throw to Lind tags him out, called safe by first base umpire, Lind disagrees, conference by the umpires, reverse the call and double play ball. Maddon out there to argue he is ejected. Call stands. Huge play.
Top 8th: Now can Jays hitters get going with that excitement of last play. Juan Cruz now pitching. Escobar, bunting back to Cruz, throw to first for the out. One down for Lind, Rzepczynski working in bullpen. 1-2 count, singles back up the middle, 4-4 tonight wow excellent. Rivera now, don’t waste this Juan. Lines it hard to right but right at Joyce, two down for Encarnacion. Pops up to Joyce in shallow right.
Bottom 8th: Rzepczynski now pitching. Zobrist, strikes out on three pitches. One down for Damon, singles to centre, one on one down for Longoria.2-2 count. Great pitch strikes him out with a breaking ball that froze him, wow great pitch. Two down. Joyce, 1-2 count, strikes out swinging. Strikes out the side and the top of the order, very nice pitching.
Top 9th: Can Jays get an insurance run (or two) here? Bottom third of the order. Cooper leading off, Adam Russell now pitching. Strikes out looking, one down. Molina, full count, Francisco warming up in bullpen. Strikes out looking. McDonald last hope tonight. Pops up to Russell. Very tame three outs by Jays hitters.
Bottom 9th: Frank Francisco now pitching. Upton leading off. 1-2 count, Upton does not like that call. Strikes out looking, Upton loses it and is now ejected. Still losing it throwing his gear on the field. I guess striking out four times does that to some people. Kotchman, 3-1 count, ball four, one on, one down. Elliot Johnson pinch hitting. 0-2 count, strikes out on three pitches. Two down for Jaso, 3-1 count, come on Frank. Ball four. Top of the order now Flud. Not good Frank. 2-0, lost the strike zone. Pinch runner Rodriguez for Jaso. 2-1, 3-1, come on. Full count. Singles to right, Johnny Mc. fumbles it, misplays it off his glove, no error called, Kotchman scores 3-2 game. Not good at all here. Deja vu of last night. Rodriguez at third. Zobrist, Strike one, grounds to Lind at first steps on the bag and Jays win a heart stopper 3-2 but it is a win and without Bautista. First season win for Morrow, first save (just ) for Francisco. Jays going for the series tomorrow.
The very good: Morrow getting in to the 7th, throwing 98mph for most of the game, striking out Upton three times and winning his first of the season. Lind 4-4 night, two run home run in the first number six on the season and he is hit right now. Stolen base number for Davis. Rivera, in the 4th, throw to cut off Escobar, Escobar’s relay Molina blocks the plate and gets him, WOW great play by all three of them. Bullpen of Frasor, Rzepczynski and Francisco. Rzepczynski especially striking out the side in the eighth, that was huge. Molina two great defensive plays. Yankees lose to Detroit.
The not so good: Bottom of the order only one hit between the three of them in twelve at bats. Runners in scoring position 1-6.
