Jays v Tigers Game one of four.
Jays finally have a home stretch after two long away stretches in April. Still without Hill, Nix, Bautista and Snider. Hill and Bautista due to start on Sunday.
Line-ups: Tigers: Jackson, Sizemore, Boesch, Cabrera, Martinez, Ordonez, Peralta, Avila, Inge and Coke pitching.
Jays: Davis, Patterson, Escobar, Lind, Rivera, Arencibia, Encarnacion, McCoy, McDonald and Litsch pitching.
Top 1st: Jackson, singles back up the middle, there goes the no-hitter. Sizemore, that’s better strikes on three pitches, one down one on for Boesch grounds to Lind throw to second back to Litsch not in time. Two down runner at first. Cabrera. 3-0 count, dangerous hitter to get this count. Ball four. Two on two down for Martinez. Wild pitch but runners hold. Lines to left Rivera, here comes the throw, gets him. Great play by Rivera and Arencibia saves Jesse from a run there.
Bottom 1st: Davis, loops into shallow left centre, Patterson, strikes out, one down. Escobar singles into right, Davis was running and all the way to third. Lind, one down with two on. Singles first pitch to left, here comes Davis, 1-0 Jays. Escobar to second. Rivera with two on. Perfect bounces one up the middle here comes Escobar 2-0 Jays. Arencibia, time for a big one JP. Same play up the middle, here comes Lind, great throw very close at the plate scores 3-0 Jays. Encarnacion, two on one down. Strikes out swinging. Two down for Mike McCoy, goes after pitch fly ball to left. Why do you do that Mike? This pitcher is struggling, take a couple of pitches. Put some pressure on him.
Top 2nd: Ordonez, bounces to Escobar, throw to Lind, one down. Peralta, strikes out looking, two down. Avila, grounds to short, great play by Escobar, throw to Lind for the out.
Bottom 2nd: McDonald leading off. Grounds to Peralta at short, one down for Davis. Grounds to third, throw to first to get home, two quick outs, Patterson doubles to left field corner. Escobar, grounds to third, throw bounces away at first, runner safe and Patterson goes to third. Lind now with two on, strikes out looking on three pitches.
Top 3rd: Inge strikes out looking. One down for Jackson. Strikes out swinging, two down. Sizemore, 3-0, ball four. Boesch, strikes out swinging, and the side with that one.
Bottom 3rd” Rivera, singles up the middle, Arencibia, doubles to the wall, and here comes Rivera. 4-0 Jays. Encarnacion, runner in scoring position, nobody out. Pops up to Cabrera for the first out. Villareal working in Tigers bullpen. McCoy showing bunt, this guy is so predictable. 0-2 strikes out swinging. Two down for McDonald. Bounces one back to Coke, throw to first to end this one leaving runner in scoring position.
Top 4th: Cabrera, whoa strikes out at one way outside in the dirt. Martinez, 3-0 count, ball four, nowhere near. Third walk for Litsch tonight. Ordonez, doubles to left, Jesse in trouble here, two in scoring position and only one out. Peralta, grounds to third, Encarnacion in front of Escobar to make the throw to Lind to get one. 4-1 Jays, two down. Runner at second. Avila first pitch fly ball to Rivera in left to end the inning.
Bottom 4th: Davis to lead off, pops up to Inge at third, one down for Patterson, lines it back up the middle. One on for Escobar. Patterson, going, too soon, picked off and he is out at second. Full count, lines to centre for the out.
Top 5th: Inge, 3-0, full count, strikes out nice after going 3-0. Jackson, 3-1, another full count, wow strikes out. Sizemore, strikes him out, number nine on the night career high.
Bottom 5th: Lind drives first pitch to centre, Jackson has it for first out. Rivera, 2-2 tonight. Singles to left, 3-3 tonight. Arencibia, 2-2 tonight, gets way under this one high fly ball to left. Two down. Encarnacion with runner at first. Another fly ball to the track for Jackson.
Top 6th: Boesch pops up to Rivera in shallow left. Cabrera high fly ball to left, Rivera has it two down. Martinez, line drive to Rivera in left, busy guy. 95 pitch count for Litsch. He has done well tonight to get into the 7th.
Bottom 6th: McCoy, full count, strikes out. McDonald, that’s better pulls it to left corner, safe at second. Davis with runner at second. Grounds to third, throw to first for the out, no chance for Johnny Mac to move up. Patterson, bounces one to second throw to first to leave Johnny Mc at second.
Top 7th: Ordonez, grounds first pitch to Escobar, throw to Lind, one down. Peralta, singles into centre. That`s it for Litsch. Here comes Frasor to take over. Nice standing ovation for Jesse, he earned it tonight. Avila, grounds back to Frasor, throws to Escobar at second, over to Lind off his glove, runner safe at first, two down. Inge, strikes out swinging.
Bottom 7th: Villareal now pitching, he was warming up in the third inning. Escobar, full count, grounds to short, throw to first, one down. Lind, there she goes an Adam bomb to centre, home run for Lind. 5-1 Jays, Rivera grounds back to Villareal, throw to first two down. Arencibia, another bomb to centre, but this time stays in for Jackson to make the catch and third out. Jays hitters taking these pitches to the walls here.
Top 8th: Rauch now pitching. Kelly pinch hitting for Jackson, pops up to Rivera in shallow left, one down. Sizemore pops up to Patterson. Boesch, with two down. wild pitch strike but Boesch gets to first. Cabrera, pops up to Patterson for third out.
Bottom 8th: Encarnacion singles to centre, McCoy. (he will be bunting) I won my bet, Cabrera fumbles the ball and McCoy safe at first, everyone has a hit tonight. Johnny Mc. Strikes out swinging. One down two on for Davis. Bounces it first Cabrera takes it for the second out., Runners move up. Patterson. End of road for Villareal. Brad Thomas pitching. Lifts it into shallow centre, Kelly tries to make the catch misses it and two runs score 7-1 Jays. Escobar, 3-0 there’s a strike. Ball four. Lind, 2-4 tonight two on two down. Strikes out.
Top 9th: Camp finishing off. Martinez, 2-2 count. Grounds through Camp and Escobar loses it, Safe at first. Ordonez lines to Davis to make catch in right. One down. Peralta, singles up the middle. Two on one down. Avila, grounds to Lind, bobbles it to make the out to Camp. No chance for two. Inge, this is trouble, doubles to centre, and here comes two more for Detroit. 7-3 game. Kelly, singles to right. Sizemore, singles to right, here comes another run, 7-4 game. That is it for Camp. Francisco now pitching. Boesch. Lines it to Johnny Mc for the final out. Save number two. Jays win big 7-4.
The very good: Litsch, nine strikeouts career high and pitched into the seventh. Rivera throw to get at home and his at bats. Arencibia two hits. Everyone with a hit tonight. 15 hit attack on Tigers pitching.
The bad: Not tonight although Camp gets a mention for almost....... letting this one get away in the top of the 9th.
