Jays win finale behind Romero pitching gem and the long ball by Rios and Johnny Mc.

Toronto v New York. Series finale game four.

Jays badly need to salvage something here, the last two games they could have might have won with some luck. All three games have been close. They are by no means outclassed even with the backup pitching. Today perhaps with Rimero.

Lineups: Toronto: Scutaro, Hill, Wells, Rolen, Rios, Millar, Bautista, Barajas, McDonald, and Romero pitching. No Overbay or Lind today against Pettite which nullifies the right field advantage.
New York: Jeter, Swisher, Teixeira, Rodriguez, Posada, Cano, Cabrera, Hinske, Gardner and Pettite pitching.

The very good: Romero undoubtedly man of the game. Romero (7-3) wins his fourth straight start, allowing three runs and seven hits in 6 1-3 innings. Rolen continuing his hit streak.

The good: Vernon 3-4 and could easily have been 4-4 without that great catch by Hinske robbing him of at least a double in the first inning. I have to say Rios also today and it would be so good to see these two coming out of their season long slump for the second half. Johnny Mc home run. Barajas and Rios with rbis with two outs. With a bit of luck you have to agree that Jays could have won the last three games here and were close enough in the first game. This was one of the toughest teams Jays have faced all season and in a new ballpark which Jays will play better next time. Pettite a very good pitcher who has owned Jays over the years. Jays had their pitching staff beaten up badly and yet were never out of any of the games. Friday 4-2 loss, Saturday 6-5 loss and in extra innings, Sunday 7-6 loss. None of the losses were blowouts and Jays should hold heads high leaving New York. With Downs back next time and hopefully more pitching help. I will take Jays to do much better.
The bad: Bullpen almost let it get away again. (but I agree that they are badly beaten up right now and missing most of their rotation and their closer so let's give them a break)

Top 1st: Scutaro first pitch fly ball to Hinske in right field making his first appearance for Yankees acquired six days ago from Pittsburgh. Hill grounds to first base Swisher. Wells lines out to right fielder Hinske He makes a great diving backhand catch on the sinking liner to end the inning. Vernon doesn’t get a break on that one but will be pleased with opposite field hit.

Bottom 1st: Romero pitching here for the first time and on a twenty inning scoreless streak, that IS impressive for a rookie.. Jeter full count and walks. Not what you wanted Ricky. Swisher, balk called, Jeter to second. Jeter stealing third, Barajas throw to Rolen gets him. Replay not conclusive and both Jeter and Girardi arguing, that’s it for Girardi, ejected. Looks as if he touched umpire Marty Foster that’s a no no Joe. That will be a fine at least. Swisher singles to centre, that would have been a run if Jeter were still out there. Romero's wild pitch, Swisher to second.Teixeira, fly ball to Wells. A-Rod hit by pitch. Posada strikes out. I think Ricky will remember his first inning in Yankee Stadium, a leadoff walk, a balk, a wild pitch and a hit batter. But he keeps his scoreless streak intact and that is important.

Top 2nd: Rolen grounds to third base A-Rod throw to Swisher at first. Rios fly ball to Gardner. Millar 3-0 and walks on four pitches. Bautista singles to centre, Millar to second. Barajas singles to right, Millar scores 1-0 Jays. Bautista to third. McDonald grounds to, second baseman Cano unassisted, Barajas out.
Bottom 2nd: Cano strikes out. Cabrera grounds to Rolen throw to Millar. Hinske fly ball to Wells. Good three up and down for Romero.

Top 3rd: Scutaro full count and walks. Hill grounds to Jeter throw to second base Cano, Scutaro out. Wells infield single to short, Hill to second. Rolen strikes out. Rios, whoa Alex, nice hit just gets over the wall in left centre, Hill scores, Wells scires and here comes Rios, three run home run and Jay iut to an early 4-0 lead, but we have seen this before four will not be enough. Millar grounds to A-Rod throw to Swisher for final out.
Bottom 3rd: Gardner fly ball to Bautista. Jeter grounds to Rolen throw to Millar. Swisher doubles to left. Teixeira strikes out.

Top 4th: Bautista fly ball to Cabrera. Barajas fly ball to Gardner. McDonald grounds to Jeter throw to Swisher. Easy three up and down for Pettite.
Bottom 4th: A-Rod singles to left. Posada strikes out. Cano fly ball to Bautista throw to McDonald on to Millar, inning ending double play. Romero now has 24 scoreless innings streak and ties with Mark Eichhorn 1986 for Jays franchise rookie consecutive shutout innings.

Top 5th: Scutaro pops up to Swisher. Hill fly ball to Gardner. Wells pops up to Cano.
Bottom 5th: Cabrera flied out to right fielder Rios. Hinske gets this one up home run off the right-field foul pole. Not bad for his first game as a Yankee. There goes Romero’s streak but he will be thinking of other things right now. Gardner singles to centre. Jeter grounds to Scutaro throw to McDonald, Gardner out. Swisher full count and walks, Jeter to second. Teixeira grounds to Rolen unassisted, Jeter out, Swisher to second.

Top 6th: Rolen walks. Rios strikes out. Millar fly ball to centre field Gardner, Rolen to second. Bautista walks. Barajas strikes out.
Bottom 6th: A-Rod grounded out, shortstop Scutaro throw to Millar.Posada grounds to Scutaro throw to Millar. Cano strikes out.

Top 7th: Johnny Mc playing rare game with Hill at DH. Full count, there she goes to quote. Home run for little Johnny Mc. his first of the season and first in more than a year. 4-1 Jays. Scutaro full count and walks. Bruney pitching. Hill strikes out. Wells doubles to left, Scutaro to third. Rolen doubles to left, Scutaro scores, Wells scores and Jays are ahead. 7-1. Rolen’s hitting streak now 23 games .Rios grounds to A-Rod throw to Swisher. Millar walks. Robertson pitching. Bautista strikes out.
Bottom 7th: Cabrera singles to centre. Hinske singles to right, Cabrera to second.Gardner grounded into fielder's choice, second baseman McDonald throw to Scutaro, Cabrera to third, Hinske out. Jeter 3-0 count and walks on four pitches, Gardner to second. That’s it for Romero, he did more than they hoped for today. With the bullpen totally exhausted, VCito needed at least six or seven from Romero today and he will. League pitching. Swisher singles to centre, Cabrera scores, Gardner scores and Jeter at second, 7-3 Jays and here come the Yankees. They sense another come from behind win. They have won 14 games in their last at bat to lead the league and have been battling Jays all weekend long it seems overcoming leads.Teixeira, with Jeter in scoring position and one down, strikes out. Cool League here. A-Rod strikes out on wicked pitch by League. When Brandon has his stuff, there is no better.

Top 8th: Jays chance to get a couple back here and get some breathing room. Barajas lines to short Jeter. McDonald strikes out. Scutaro lines to right field Hinske. Three up and down.
Bottom 8th. Accardo pitching. Posada grounds to McDonald throw to Millar. Cano doubles to centre. Cabrera grounds to Millar, Cano to third. Hinske hit by pitch. To give him credit he did dive out of the way but ball must have just nicked his trouser leg. Damon pinch-hitting for Gardner. Damon hit by a pitch, Hinske to second. That is the second hit batter this inning. League pitching too far inside. That will be his last, here comes the boss, Cito calls for Frasor. Frasor pitching. Jeter, full count and walks, Cano scores, 7-4 Jays. Hinske to third, Damon to second for Swisher, fly ball to Wells but Yankees are within three.

Top 9th: Cabrera in at centre, Damon in at left. Albaladejo now pitching. Hill grounds to Jeter throw to Swisher. Wells infield single to short. Third hit today and was robbed by that great play by Hinske in the first inning. I think that both he and Rios will be in same positions in Tampa tomorrow. Rolen pops up to Jeter. Rios grounds back to pitcher Albaladejo throw to Swisher for third out.
Bottom 9th: Crunch time for Jays, will they wilt ? and cave in like they have done the whole series. Overbay in at first. The meat of the Yankees order, the big guns, this will be huge test for Frasor. Teixeira with the shift on right, grounds to McDonald playing almost behind first, throw to Overbay. Here comes big trouble, A-Rod fly ball to Wells. Two down. Posada, singles to centre. One on two down for Cano, doubles to left, Bautista makes diving play but off his glove. Posada to third. Two on and two down for Matsui, pinch-hitting for Cabrera. Singles to centre, Posada and Cano score and this game is a one run game. 7-6.Jays. This is far too close here Jason, come on, to lose this one would be devastating for the Jays after the previous losses. Ransom pinch-running for Matsui at first. He could be the winning run. Hinske already with one homerun and would love to win this for Yankees against his former club, strikes out.

Jays finally win one against Yankees. Only by one but it doesn’t matter a win is a win. Frasor’s third save in five chances.

Yankees lose for just the second time in 12 games. Pettitte gives up six runs, five hits and five walks in six-plus innings. 12 of the 14 homers he has allowed this year have been at home. Toronto now (43-41) wins for just the second time in nine games and avoids dropping to .500 for the first time since they were 59-59 on Aug. 12, 2008.
