Cecil no match for Yankees despite Jays hitters giving him some help today

Toronto v New York. Game 2.

Jays pitching situation gets worse with Richmond now down, they will have to suck this one up. Cecil in place of Richmond not sure that Cecil is ready for this level and certainly not being thrown into the fire at Yankee Stadium. Good luck Brett you will need it unless this is a slugfest.

Lineups: Jays: Scutaro, Hill, Lind, Rolen, Overbay, Wells, Rios, Dellucci, Chavez and Cecil pitching.
Yankees: Jeter, Damon, Teixeira, Posada, Matsui, Swisher, Cano, Cabrera, Ransom and Chamberlain pitching. Yankees will not need A-Rod today. Girardi giving him a day off.

The good: Have to find something today. The comeback and go ahead innings certainly. Rolen hit streak continues to 22, that is certainly special. I guess he loves hitting three in the lineup. Hill’s home run, Lind also. They will have to learn to exploit that right field anomaly. I don’t think we will see Vernon hitting out there but Alex certainly could. Hill and Halladay going to the All-Star game.
The bad: Cecil, Cecil and Cecil, just not for the majors right now. Managed to stay in the game but not through his pitching. Five walks tell the story. Brett far better to give a home run than walk a guy. Should be on the plane back to Vegas, that would be interesting. Overbay error would have made a closer result.

Top 1st: Scutaro full count and walks. Chamberlain a little wild here. Hill fly ball to Cabrera. One down. Lind fly ball to Damon. Rolen strikes out. No attempt to move him over.
Bottom 1st: Jeter singles to right. Damon fly ball to Rios. One down.Teixeira 3-0 and walks on four pitches, Jeter to second. Posada singles to left. Bases loaded with one out. Jeter to third, Teixeira to second. Not quite the start that Cecil wanted here. Matsui grounds to Overbay, fumbles the ball and everyone safe as Jeter scores, that could have been double play. Error on Overbay not helping Cecil. Teixeira coming home as well Hill’s throw to Chavez gets him at home. Posada to third on the play. Swisher, singles to right, Posada scores, 2-0 Yankees. Cano grounds to Hill throw to Overbay. But Yankees already off and running. That error by Lyle didn’t help Cecil at all.

Top 2nd: Overbay fly ball to Swisher. Wells singles to left. Rios, there goes Vernon before the pitch and thrown out at second by Chamberlain. Maybe a little too aggressive there Vernon. Rios fly ball to Cabrera.
Bottom 2nd: Cabrera grounds to Hill, throw to Overbay, one down. Ransom, full count and Cecil walks him Number nine guy. Cecil is out of his depth here today. But not getting any help from his hitters or defense. Jeter singles into left. Two on, one out. Damon strikes out. Teixeira 3-0 and Cecil about to load bases for second time. Walks him on four pitches, Bases loaded for Posada, singles to left, Ransom scores, Jeter scores, 4-0 Yankees. Teixiera to second. Matsui, full count and walks bases loaded again for Swisher, strikes out. Could have been a whole lot worse for Cecil but he is having a rough afternoon and already in a deep hole. He needs some help and quick.

Top 3rd: Dellucci pops up to Jeter. Not having a good start for the first team. Chavez doubles to right. Nice hit Raul. Scutaro grounds to Cano throw to Teixeira, at least he moves Chavez to third. Hill, heard that he will be All-Star this year, well deserved, singles to left and Chavez scores 4-1 Yankees. Lind, there it goes, home run to right, Hill scores, Lind scores and all of a sudden Jays are right back in this one. 4-3 Yankees. Rolen, back to back Scott ? Not this time, fly ball to right.
Bottom 3rd: Can Cecil hold them here ? Cano singles to right. Not what Cito wanted. Cabrera grounds to Scutaro throw to Hill, Cano out at second. Cabrera to first. Ransom strikes out. Jeter grounds to Scutaro throw to Hill. Perfect now the hitters can get back out there against Chamberlain.

Top 4th: Overbay singles to left. Good start. Wells fly ball to Damon in left. One down. Rios grounds hard to Ransom at third, hits his glove and body and bounces over his head, only a few feet away but he loses ball, Alex safe at first. Overbay to second. Error on the play. Two on one down for Dellucci ,fly ball to Swisher. Dellucci just cannot buy a hit. Chavez again, way to go Raul a firm double into left field corner, Overbay scores, this game is all tied up 4-4.Rios at third with two down. Top of the order now time to cash in. Scutaro singles to centre, Rios scores, Chavez scores, 6-4 Jays. Hill gets hold of this one, into right field seats, home run Aaron, Scutaro scores, Hill scores and Jays are 8-4. After being 4-0 down after two. Where has this hitting been in the last week or so? Lind singles to centre, and that’s it for Chamberlain, just falling apart here. Who would have seen him out of the game before Cecil today ? Albaladejo pitching. Rolen singles to left, Lind to third. Overbay lines out to Jeter. But damage is done, Jays roar back with five runs on six hits in the inning as Jays bat around.

Bottom 4th: Now Cecil has a four run lead, a new game for him. Damon strikes out. Teixeira full count and yet another walk. Posada singles to centre, Teixeira to second. Matsui gets one up in the air, this one is just carrying out of here in right home run, that would be fly ball out in most stadiums, three runs score and this game is all tied up again. 8-7 Jays. There goes that four run lead, didnlt last long. What a wild one. Who will be left standing? Swisher fly ball to Lind. Cano singles to right. That’s it for Cecil. Eight runs his ERA will look good, but unfair to put him into Yankee Stadium, he is just not ready for majors. B.J. Ryan pitching. Cabrera, Cano is going great throw by Chavez and Cano is out at second.

Top 5th: Wells grounds to Jeter throw to Teixeira. One down for Rios doubles to centre, ASlex goes all the way to third on error by Swisher. Dellucci strikes out. Chavez strikes out.
Bottom 5th: Ryan still pitching. Cabrera walks on four pitches. Ransom grounds to Rolen, throw to Overbay, Cabrera to second. Jeter, there it goes, home run to right Jeter two runs score. 9-8 Yankees. That was just a fly ball to right, similar to Matsui’s get it up in that wind or whatever and it just keeps on carrying but Jays should be noting this for next visits to this place. Damon full count, walks, that’s it for BJ. Here comes Cito. Hayhurst’s turn. One down one on for Texeira, full count. fly ball to Wells, two down. Posada, this game is almost three hours already and still in the fifth. Doubles into right field corner, Damon scores from first. 10-8 Yankees. Jays have given up a four run lead. Matsui with Posada at second and two down. Another full count. Posada will be going, doubles into right, Rios great throw and gets him at home plate. Chavez has to do it twice but end result is out.

Top 6th: Aceves pitching. Scutaro grounds to third base Ransom throw to Teixeira. Hill strikes out. Lind fly ball to Swisher.
Bottom 6th: Carlson, Swisher strikes out, Cano grounds to Scutaro throw to Overbay, two down. Cabrera, loops it into left, two out one on for Ransom, full count, don’t lose him here Jesse. Good boy strikes him out.

Top 7th: Can Jays get something going now? Aceves pitching. first pitch fly ball to right corner,. One down for Overbay, first pitch grounds to first. Come on Lyle. Two pitches two outs that is minor league stuff. And for a guy who has great eye to walk. Wells, now has to take, full count, good at bat Vernon, strikes out but at least he used his head more than Overbay. Eight pitch inning for Aceves.
Bottom 7th: League now pitching. Cito will say he has no choice but….. you have to wonder why these pitchers are all going down with arm and shoulder problems. Jeter grounds slowly to Rolen, no chance on this and safe at first. Damon, full count, walks. Two on no outs for Texeira, living dangerously Brandon. Pops it up to Wells, runners hold, one down. Posada, pitch way inside, should have taken one for the team there Jorge, would have loaded the bases. That’s better guys grounds to Overbay, throw to Scutaro back to League in time, double play.

Top 8th: Acceves still pitching, Rios, whoa that pitch was way up high, Alex goes after it he singles to left. Dellucci out of all the fun. hitless today, no throws over to first, Alex staying put. Why ????? Dellucci grounds back to pitcher throw to second gets Rios.I don’t understand that guy’s head at all. Why didn’t he steal earlier ? He could be at third now instead of sitting on the bench. Chavez, strikes out on three pitches. Scutaro with two down and Dellucci at first. Nice play Marco, bunt to third but throw just gets him, very close there but at least you were being aggressive Marco and get full marks from me.
Bottom 8th: Frasor pitching. Matsui. Strikes out this time but you get impression Yankees are playing this out, no threat from these Jays now. Swisher, grounds to Scutaro throw to Overbay two down. Cano, grounds to Hill great play and throw to get him, may have been safe but no one is arguing. Everyone has had enough today game closing on four hour mark unless Jays have an unlikely comeback here. I don’t think we will se Rivera, Acceves is doing a fine job and will finish off Jays, literally.

Top 9th: Yes I was right about Acceves, Hill grounds to Jeter, throw to first one down. Lind, Acceves just throwing strike after strike, I hope Cecil, Tallet and the others are watching this guy. Lind strikes out on three. Rolen, last chance for Jays. 0-2 called third strike and Yankees win this big, three in a row now off the hapless Jays.

Yankees will be going for the sweep tomorrow and the way the Jays have played probably don’t bet against it. Even if Yankees lose they will take .750 ball any day as well as widening the gap and moving two more ahead of Toronto.
