Rookie power from Cooper and Loewen preserves series win against Orioles

Orioles v Jays. Series finale.

Jays goes for the series win with the Orioles after a late inning walk win yesterday. Dustin McGowan day without a doubt. Starting for the first time in three years. We can only imagine the emotions that he is going through. Four innings in relief last Tuesday but today a start.

Line-ups: Orioles: Angle, Hardy, Markakis, Guerrero, Wieters, Reynolds, Davis, Reimold, Andino and Hunter pitching.
Jays: McCoy, Thames, Bautista, Lind, Lawrie, Johnson, Cooper, Arencibia, Loewen and McGowan pitching.

Very nice pre-game ceremony honouring those who died as well the first responders in 9/11. Great weather also. Only one more home stand after today. Two series against Yankees and Angels. Sad.

Top 1st: Angle, 3-0 count, come on Dustin, relax, high ball four, not what he wanted to start with. One on for Hardy, drives it to centre, Loewen makes a nice running catch. One down one on for Markakis, 3-1 count. Ball four, second walk, two on one down for Guerrero. Wild pitch both runners move up into scoring position. Lines it to Bautista in right, here comes Angle for the first run. Throw to Arencibia relays the throw to Lawrie not in time to get Markakis at third. Two down for Wieters. 2-2 count, grounds to Johnson, throw to Cooper playing at first today for the out. Not an easy first inning for McGowan but probably nerves played a huge role.
Bottom 1st: McCoy, bunting and Reynolds fumbles it and McCoy dives for the bag and evades the tag. Error on Reynolds. Thames, singles to centre, McCoy all the way to third, Bautista with two on, lines it to left, here comes McCoy 1-1 game. Two on for Lind still nobody out. Grounds to Reynolds at first, takes it himself, one down for Lawrie. Runners in scoring position at second and third, grounds to second, throw to Reynolds at first as Thames scores 2-1 Jays. Two down and Bautista at third. Johnson, 2-2 strikes out swinging.

Top 2nd: Reynolds, grounds to Lawrie at third, throw to Cooper, one down. Davis, 3-0, ball four outside, Dustin having real problems with his control. Reimold, bounces one over the head of Johnson in right. Andino, pops it up into shallow right, Bautista fighting the sun and drops the ball. Bases are loaded. Angle, 2-2 count, singles to Bautista in right. Davis scores 2-2 game. Hardy, bases loaded again. Full count, fly ball to Loewen in shallow centre, two down. Runner holds at third. Markakis with two down. Grounds to McCoy throw to Cooper to leave the bases loaded. McGowan another rough inning and fortunate to escape with only one run.
Bottom 2nd: Cooper, pops up to Davis at third, Arencibia, drives it to centre but Angle makes the catch, two down. Loewen, strikes out swinging.

Top 3rd: Guerrero leading off grounds to Lawrie throw to Cooper, one down. Wieters grounds to Johnson at second, throw to Cooper two down. Reynolds grounds to Lawrie throw to Cooper for third out.

Lawrie with two down, high fly ball to Angle in centre for third out.
Top 4th: Davis leading off, another full count and ball four, another walk, number four for McGowan today already. Reimold, there goes Davis and safe on the throw. Another full count and yet another ball four, that is it for Dustin today I am afraid. We had such high hopes for him today which is probably unrealistic. Will he get another start on Friday against the Yankees? Villanueva now pitching. Andino with two on, strikes out. Angle, grounds to McCoy throw to Cooper, one down. Davis at third, Reimold at second. Hardy, intentional walk to load the bases. Markakis, singles to Bautista in right, here comes Davis, here comes Reimold and Orioles go out ahead again, 4-3. Guerrero, lines out to Loewen to end this one.
Bottom 4th: Johnson, leading off, pops up to Andino at second, one down. Cooper strikes out. Two down for Arencibia, full count strikes out. Jays bats are being stifled by Hunter.

Top 5th: Wieters, grounds back to Villanueva, throw to Cooper, one down. Reynolds grounds to McCoy, throw to Cooper at first. Two down, Davis lines to the gap in centre, Thames makes the play, stand up double for Davis. Reimold grounds to Lawrie at third, slides to his left to make the play and long throw not in time. Davis moves up to third. Andino pops up to Johnson at second.
Bottom 5th: Loewen grounds to short, no chance for a throw and safe at first. McCoy, bunting up the first base line, nice bunt but Reynolds makes the out as Loewen moves to second. Thames grounds to Reynolds, goes to the first base bag for second out. Loewen to third. Bautista, fly ball to Angle in centre to end the inning.

Top 6th: That is it for Villanueva. Camp now pitching. Angle, full count. Ball four. Angle on base. Hardy, fly ball to Thames in left, one down for Markakis, drives it to the wall in centre, Angle to third. Guerrero, intentional walk to load the bases. Wieters, grounds to Cooper, throw to McCoy at second. Angle scores, 5-3 Orioles. Markakis moves to third, two down. Reynolds, strikes out but Orioles now two up on the Jays.
Bottom 6th: Hunter still out there. Lind fly ball to Markakis in right, one down. Lawrie, pops up to Davis at third, two down. Johnson, strikes out. Jays go very quickly.

Top 7th: Carreno now pitching. Davis strikes out. One down for Reimold, fly ball to Loewen in centre, two down. Andino pops up Johnson to end this half.
Bottom 7th: Cooper leading off, oh man, he has lifted this one high and deep in right and over the fence in right field. Home run for Cooper, his second of the season with Jays. Jays pull one back 5-4 game. Arencibia fly ball to centre to Angle who jumps to make the catch up against the wall, almost JP. One down. Loewen, 2-2 count, gets hold of this one drives it deep to centre and over the wall at the 400 ft sign, great swing Adam, another home run for the Jays and this game is all tied up again. His first major league home run for the Jays. 5-5 game. For the first time today Hunter looks fragile. McCoy doubles to left. Thames, singles to right, McCoy to third. The end of Hunter. Eyre now pitching. Bautista with McCoy at third and one down. Jose lifts this one into centre for Angle, here comes the run. 6-5 Jays. Rapada now pitching. Lind pops up to Reynolds.

Top 8th: Janssen now pitching. Wise in centre for Loewen as centre field. Angle, grounds to Lawrie, throw to Cooper, one down. Hardy grounds to McCoy throw to Cooper two down. Markakis, fly ball to Wise to end the inning.
Bottom 8th: Bergesen now pitching. Lawrie, fly ball to Angle in centre, one down. Johnson, grounds to Andino throw to Reynolds. Cooper ball four, and walks. One on two down. Arencibia, wild pitch, Cooper moves up to second. Arenciba pops up to Andino at second to end the inning.

Top 9th: Francisco now pitching. Frankie’s birthday today. Well Frankie how about a save here.
Guerrero grounds to McCoy throw to Cooper at first. One down for Wieters, strikes out. Two down. Reynolds, last chance for Orioles, full count. Ball four and Reynolds walks. Hudson pinch running for Reynolds. Davis, there goes Hudson and steals second. Davis strikes out and Jays have won the series against Baltimore.

The very good: Cooper and Loewen home runs to get Jays back in this game and provide some heart and hustle.
Not so good: McGowan was wild from the start and finished with five walks. The small crowd for a Sunday afternoon in September very disappointing. Our row was almost empty. On the other hand we were not surrounded by evil opposing fans.
Jays head to Boston to keep the Red Sox in their loss spiral.
