Jays bats come alive and support a great outing by Romero to beat Weaver 11-2.

Angels v Jays Game two of three.

Jays really up against it today with Weaver pitching. Yes it is Romero but it is the Jays hitting that is the major problem right now, totally missing.

Line-ups: Angels: Izturis, Bourjos,Hunter,Trumbo, Wells, Callaspo, Kendrick, Mathis, Romine and Weaver pitching.
Jays: Escobar, Thames, Encarnacion, Lind, Arencibia, Teahen, Lawrie, Davis, McDonald and Romero pitching. This one very different line-up.No Jose, Rasmus, or Hill. I agree that Jose needs a break but would definitely question the timing. Today is young Jays day with all the young children many of who are Jose fans, they will be immensely disappointed at not seeing him today. I have no problem with Hill sitting and hope it is for more than one game as he is not contributing anything and Johnny Mc is playing much better ball. Rasmus has not had a break since he was traded and definitely needs one.

Top 1st: Izturis leading off, grounds to Escobar, throw to Encarnacion playing at first today, one down. Bourjos, 3-0 count, inside ball four. One on for Hunter. 2-0, Ricky having problems here with strike zone. 3-0, ball four, wow, eight pitches and all balls. Need some help here Ricky. Trumbo, outside ball one, ball two, ten pitch balls. There we go strike one. Perfect grounds to Escobar, throw to Johnny Mc over to Encarnacion, double play ball, just what Ricky needed here.
Bottom 1st: Jays escape damage at the top of the inning, now to capitalize. Escobar, singles to left, he has been excellent leading off. One on now for Thames, bunting ? yes and gets it down to Weaver, throw to first. One down and Escobar at second. Encarnacion, gets hold of this one, high drive into left field bullpen, whoa, Weaver wants that one back. 2-0 Jays. Lind, 0-2 count, pops it up to Callaspo at third, two down for Arencibia. Full count, pops up to Hendricks in left. Great start for the Jays and a totally unexpected one with Weaver pitching.

Top 2nd: Wells leading off, grounds to Lawrie, whoa throw is high to Encarnacion but manages to tag Vernon for the out. Callaspo, 2-2 count, lines to centre, right at Rajai Davis for second out. Kendrick, grounds to Lawrie, more care here and throw much lower for the out at first. Nice inning for Romero.
Bottom 2nd: Teahen playing in right today for Jose. First start for the Jays. 2-2 count, strikes out swinging, one down for Lawrie. High fly ball to left for Hendrick to make the catch, two down. Davis, starting for Rasmus today. 2-2 count, lines this one all the way to the wall in centre, stand up double for Rajai, one on two down for Johnny Mc., Weaver getting nervous about Rajai behind him. 1-2 count, must admit Jays hitters are definitely more patient today, no first pitch wild swinging. That will do Johnny Mc. lines it into left, here comes Davis, 3-0 Jays. Johnny Mc should be playing at second period. Escobar, I spoke too soon, he does go after that first pitch grounds to Callaspo at third, throw to first to end the inning, but Jays have added another.

Top 3rd: Mathis leading off. 0-2 count, hits him but he was swinging, now Scioscia out there and change of call, Farrell arguing but no good. First base umpire says no swing. Romine, bunting, gets it to Lawrie, no chance to get out at second, throw to first to get Romine. Izturis, one down one at second, 3-1 count, fly ball to left, Thames makes it an adventure but does get the catch. Mathis tags and gets to third, two down for Bourjos, bounces first pitch back to Romero, throw to Encarnacion for the out,
Bottom 3rd: Thames leading off. 2-1 count fly ball to Wells in right for the catch, one down for Encarnacion. 1-2 strikes out looking, two down for Lind. Pops it up to third, Callaspo makes great catch leaning into the crowd. Come on guys make it difficult for him.

Top 4th: Hunter 1-2 count, high fly ball to centre but Davis makes the catch, one down. Trumbo, grounds to McDonald at second throw to first two down, Wells, grounds to Lawrie, throw to first to end the inning.
Bottom 4th: Arencibia, grounds to short, throw to first, one down. Teahen, grounds up the middle to Izturis, throw to first just gets him. Lawrie, two down, singles into left. Davis, there goes Lawrie, Davis fly ball to left for the out.

Top 5th: Callaspo, whoa, gets hold of this and drives it into the left field bullpen, same spot as Encarnacion home run. First hit for Angels today and what a hit. 3-1 Jays. Kendrick, 0-2 lines it at Lawrie, knocks it down, but throw late at first. Mathis, one on and nobody out, strikes out swinging, one down. Romine, off the end of his bat, Arencibia throw to Escobar at second to get Kendrick, two down. Izturis, 0-2 count, high bounce great leap by Romero to get ball and throw to first for the out, Very athletic play Ricky.
Bottom 5th: McDonald leading off. Full count, pops up to Trumbo at first base camera bay, one down. Escobar, 2-2 count, lines to the wall in left, stand up double for Escobar. One on, one down for Thames. 3-1 count, outside ball four, two on for Encarnacion. Full count, high ball four, bases loaded for Lind. Ever a time to get it going, Adam this is it. WHOA Adam you were listening, hammers this one to right and into the crowd, grand slam to Lind and this game is broken wide open 7-1 Jays. Arencibia still only one down. 2-2 count, Weaver getting wild here, another full count. Strikes out swinging, two down for Lawrie. Teahen, 2-0 count, he goes after it, hooks it into right, home run Teahen and 8-1 Jays, first home run for Jays and Canuck Mark Teahen and that is sayonara to Weaver, they have knocked him out of the game, this team constantly surprises me. Against one the very best on the league they have three home runs and eight runs. Wow, and without Bautista and Rasmus. Cassevah now pitching, Lawrie hammers this one, oh off the wall in centre and look at Lawrie motoring round the bases, slides in with a triple. Davis now with Lawrie at third. Grounds to third, throw to first just gets Davis as Lawrie comes home. Jays break this one wide open with five run inning. The bats come alive but for me the highlight is Lind getting the job done, maybe just maybe he is out of his slump.

Top 6th: Romero now with a totally different game ahead of him. Bourjos leading off, Grounds to third, Lawrie great throw to Encarnacion for the first out, Lawrie is fast. Hunter. Strikes out on three pitches, two down for Trumbo pulls it to Lawrie at third long throw from Lawrie just gets the runner, he is one strong dude. That was a very long throw.
Bottom 6th: Pineiro now pitching. Johnny Mc lines first pitch into shallow left, two hit today, as always making a strong case to stay in the line-up. Escobar, grounds to Izturis at short, oh !!! the throw to second is wild and goes into centre field Johnny Mc to third on the play. Error on the play to Izturis. Should have been a double play ball. Thames with two on. 2-2 count, inside full count, ball four almost hits him, and bases are loaded yet again for Encarnacion this time. Nobody out, 2-2 count, lines a rocket to left and off the glove at third, here comes Johnny Mc. 9-1 Jays. Bases still loaded for Lind yet again. Fly ball to centre for the out, here comes Escobar, 10-1 Jays. one down for Arencibia, singles to Bourjos in left here comes Thames from second, 11-1 Jays, Teahen with two on and one down. 2-2 count, grounds to first, takes the ball himself for second out as both runners move up. Lawrie 2-3 today and two in scoring position here. Grounds to third, throw just gets Lawrie for third out.

Top 7th: Wells, strikes out swinging, one down. Callaspo, full count, pops up to Johnny Mc. in shallow outfield second, two down. Kendrick, grounds to McDonald throw to Encarnacion to end the inning.
Bottom 7th: Davis leading off. 0-2 count, pulls it to short, Izturis throw to first to get him. Johnny Mc. high pop up to Callaspo at third, two down for Escobar, grounds to Izturis at short, throw to first to get Escobar and end the inning.

Top 8th: Trever Miller now pitching. Mathis leading off, 3-1 count, ball four outside, leadoff walk. Romine, wild pitch to the backstop and Mathis moves to second. Pops it up to Davis in centre for the out. Izturis, full count, high pop up to Arencibia, two down. Bourjos, 0-2 count, strikes out swinging. Miller does the job.
Bottom 8th: Rich Thompson now pitching. Thames lines it to the wall in right centre, stand up double, Encarnacion, strikes out looking. Lind one down one on. Off the end of the bat and Thompson tags him out. Two down for Arencibia as Thames moves to third on the play. High fly ball to Kendrick in left.

Top 9th: Luis Perez now pitching, had a lousy one inning outing his last game. Needs to redeem himself to his manager. Hunter leading off. Lines it to the wall in centre, stand up triple for Hunter. Trumbo lines it to Davis in centre here comes Hunter to score, 11-2 Jays one down for Branyan. Full count, strikes out looking, two down. Callaspo, 1-2 count, lines it into right, bounces into the crowd, ground rule double, not over yet friends. Kendrick, 1-2 count, strikes out looking. Jays break out today and win big.

Impressive: Romero pitching and Jays hitting. Lind grand slam and his five RBIs. Encarnacion, Lawrie, Johnny Mc., Escobar all merit the gold star today. Excellent win all round against Weaver one of the toughest pitchers in the AL.
Also excellent: Very patient at bats early in the game, different approach for Jays free swingers.
Not so good: First inning ten consecutive pitches for balls by Romero. But nothing else today to complain about but please Manager Farrell keep Johnny Mc in the line-up tomorrow. He has earned his spot. Tomorrow Cecil v Haren, yet another great Angels pitcher and a tough assignment for the Jays hitters. Maybe the day rest will give Bautista and Rasmus some fire.

News: As Carole Jay notes, Is Hechavarria on his way north via Vegas? Would not that be a super treat for Jays fans in September. And with Escobar at second. I like it.
