Escobar ruins this one for Morrow as Jays give one away despite Rasmus home run

Jays v Orioles. Game two of three.

Jays going for the series win tonight with Morrow on the mound. Anything can happen with Brandon and usually does. Such good stuff but frustratingly inconsistent. Jays must keep plugging away and winning these games, they have such a favourable schedule through much of August and must take advantage of it.

Line-ups: Jays: Escobar, Thames, Bautista, Lind, Encarnacion, Rasmus, Hill, Molina, Lawrie and Morrow pitching.
Orioles: Andino, Markakis, Jones, Guerrero, Wieters, Reynolds, Reimold, Bell, Davis and Tillman pitching.

Top 1st: Escobar leading off. Grounds to Andino at short, throw to Reynolds, one down for Thames. 1-2 count, strikes out. Two down for Bautista. Strikes out. Jays go quietly. Pitch count 13.
Bottom 1st: Morrow pitching. Andino leading off. First pitch swinging, fly ball to Thames in left, one down for Markakis. Fly ball to Rasmus in centre for the out. Jones with two down. Grounds to Hill throw to Lind for a very quick inning. Morrow throwing nothing but strikes. Let us hope that he can maintain it. Pitch count 8. Love it.

Top 2nd: Lind leading off. 2-0 count, that will do Adam singles to right, one on for Encarnacion. 1-2 count, Oh boy classic Edwin, grounds to Andino at short, throw to Davis on to first and Reynolds and the 1,000th double play by Encarnacion this season, so very frustrating. Two down for Rasmus, YES Colby, gets hold of this one big-time. home run to right. 1-0 Jays and first run for Rasmus. What a beautiful swing, fluid like John Olerud, He has been getting more comfortable each outing. Great to see it Colby. Hill fly ball to Reimold for the out.
Bottom 2nd: Guerrero leading off. Grounds to Escobar at short throw to Lind, one down. Wieters strikes out, first strike out for Morrow. Reynolds two down, 0-2 count, strikes out. Morrow so far on fire. 21 pitches.

Top 3rd: Molina leading off. 0-2 count, grounds to Andino, throw to Reynolds, one down for Lawrie grounds to Bell at third throw to Reynolds Escobar, first pitch when does he ever learn, pops it up to right for third out. Awful at bat. I think he will find that he is no longer the top dog with both Lawrie and Rasmus now in the side. 32 pitches but a couple of first pitch swingers helps a lot.
Bottom 3rd: Reimold leading off. Bounces to Lawrie at third, throw to Lind one down. Bell, 1-2 count, strikes out swinging. Two down for Davis, 0-2 count, strikes out looking, froze him on that pitch. 31 pitch count for three innings, Morrow will take that any day.

Top 4th: Thames leading off. 2-2 count, Strikes out looking. Bautista, strikes out swinging, two down for Lind, 2-2 count, strikes out swinging at pitch on the ground. Adam just cannot lay off those pitches. But Tillman is now in his groove. 47 pitches. Jays hitters are going to have to grind out some at bats now instead of first pitch free swinging to the moon. They have to get into the bullpen of the Orioles.
Bottom 4th: Andino, 1-2 count, grounds to Hill, throw to Lind, one down. Markakis, 0-2 count, pops up to Escobar at short. Two down for Jones, grounds to Escobar, throw to Lind for third out. 43 pitches.

Top 5th: Encarnacion. At least he cannot hit into another double play. Full count. Pops it up to Davis in shallow right. Rasmus, grounds to Reynolds, takes it himself to beat Rasmus to the bag. Two down for Hill. 2-2 count, pops it up to Davis at second. Pitch count 61.
Bottom 5th: Guerrero first pitch, fly ball to Rasmus in centre, one down. Wieters 2-2 count, pops it up to Lawrie at third, two down for Reynolds, 2-2 count, gets him on the corner, looking. Great pitch. 56 pitches for five innings.

Top 6th: Molina, full count, ball four as he avoids getting hit there. One on for Lawrie. This guy is wound up like a spring, you can almost feel his intensity, 2-2 count, pulls it into left, Molina to second. Two on for Escobar, now can he redeem himself, will he be bunting? Yes, but strike one. Inside and hits him, tried to get out of the way. Bases loaded for Thames. Mound conference. With Jose at third not rocket science to know that they will be doing. A big at bat with Bautista on deck. Fly ball to Markakis in right, no way is Jose running on that arm. One down for Bautista. Ball one, outside they may be walking him to just give up one run. Swing and miss on that one. 2-2 count. outside full count. That was maybe ball four, fouls it off, and another, fly ball to centre, here comes Jose and just safe as the ball gets away from Wieters far too close there. 2-0 Jays two down for Lind, time he did something. Awful bounces to second, throw to Reynolds for the third out. Lind is something else. Just does not have anything right now. Maybe Farrell can move him down the order and put Rasmus behind Jose or Jose will be getting nothing to hit for the rest of the season.
Bottom 6th: Morrow has one more run to work with but should have been much more with bases loaded and nobody out. Reimold 3-1 count, there goes the no-hitter as he singles to centre. One on for Bell, fly ball to Rasmus in centre, one down. Davis, singles to Bautista in right and Reimold all the way to third. Two on one down for top of the order. Andino, 2-1 count, oh boy, no, grounds to Escobar, off his glove into left and here comes the run 2-1 Jays, huge error to Escobar. That was the double play ball they needed. Two on for Markakis. Pops up to Lawrie at third, two down. Jones with two down and two on. This one is out of here, high fly ball to right clears the score board, three runs score. 4-2 Orioles and Escobar’s name is mud. Guerrero, pops it up to Hill for the out. If I were Escobar I would stay away from Morrow until I have hit a grand slam for him tonight. That was brutal. 78 pitches for Morrow.

Top 7th: Jays hitters owe Morrow now especially after messing up that bases loaded no outs previous inning. Encarnacion leading off. Singles to left, where was that hit Edwin in the second inning? Rasmus, grounds hard down the line at first, Reynolds makes great diving play to stop and throw to second back to first double play, robbed Colby of a double at least. Two down for Hill, grounds to third, throw to Reynolds for the out.
Bottom 7th: Wieters fly ball to Thames in left, one down. Reynolds, 1-2 count, strikes out swinging. Two down for Reimold. Grounds to Escobar, throw to Lind for third out. Great seven pitch inning by Morrow. 85 pitch count.

Top 8th: Can the Jays hitters give Morrow some support here? He has had to do it all himself tonight with the exceptions of Jose and Colby runs. No more Tillman at least, Jim Johnson now pitching. Molina, 3-1 count, grounds to short, throw to Reynolds, one down for Lawrie. 1-2 count, strikes out looking. Two down for Escobar, time he contributed something tonight. Strikes out swinging.
Bottom 8th: Bell, full count, ball four, one on for Davis, bunting and pops it up to Lind, no chance to double up Bell at first although Hill was there. One down for Andino, inside and just hits him, two on for Markakis. Fly ball to centre, Rasmus makes the catch collides with Bautista, throw back in gets away from Hill and here comes Bell run number five, two down. Error to Rasmus on the throw, that is tough. The collision I can understand as he has yet to establish with Jose out there. Andino runner at second, Jones grounds back up the middle and here comes Andino run number six. That is it for Morrow robbed by his own team tonight. Camp now with one on and two down. Guerrero, 0-1 count, throw over and picks Jones off at first, nice throw by Camp.

Top 9th: The top of the order. Thames first pitch grounds back to Gregg, throw to first, awful at bat by Thames. Bautista grounds to short, throw to Reynolds for second out. Down to the last at bat Lind, first pitch swing pops it up to shallow left, for third out. That was a terrible at bat by both Lind and Thames.

Jays give this one away 6-2.

An excellent outing by Morrow tonight was ruined first by the bases loaded sixth inning and nobody out produces one sac fly run. Then at the bottom of the inning Escobar and failure to turn an easy double play which lead to four runs. And not least by the terrible hitting throughout by Encarnacion, Lind and Escobar, Thames.
I really think Lind has to drop down the order, he is no longer giving Jose any protection. Thames will probably be sitting tomorrow for Davis he is very fortunate that Travis was sent down two days ago because he has not performed at all since then despite getting great pitches hitting in front of Jose. Encarnacion ??? back to his early season nonsense. May be time to bench him as well.

Encarnacion double play in second inning before Colby home run. Cost the Jays at least one run. Not impressed with Escobar hitting either tonight. Poor hitting by Lind does not help. The error on Rasmus was result of the collision with Jose, This is only the second game that they have played together in the outfield, this is going to happen until they know their roles, but the rule is that the centre field takes charge out there. Ditto with young Lawrie, these errors I can stomach, it is the lousy hitting from some of the others that grates. It cost Morrow a win. This one definitely got away tonight.

The very good: Morrrow for the first five innings was perfect. Rasmus with his first home run as a Jay hopefully many more to come and he should definitely be higher in the order. My call would be cleanup behind Bautista.
