Rezepczynski leads Jays to a shutout win over the Angels.

Game one of three Jays v Angels in Anaheim. Friday August 13.

Jays fans should take a look at the Boston media for today after the loss yesterday. The sky has fallen and Papelbon the untouchable is the bĂȘte noir. The first time in his career that he has been taken out in the middle of an inning, and his first loss to Jays in 25 games. Welcome to the real world. He “felt groggy”, I guess that was after the game right Jonathan, will he ever recover. Kevin Gregg and BJ Ryan must laugh in their soup. But the empire is under siege at not sweeping the Jays. Oh the power of entitlement. Well keep looking over your shoulders friends.
Tonight the Jays on the west coast and then a killer flight back to the east coast for Boston and New York. Tough trip. Marc Rezepczynski back in the team for short term as Cito going with six man rotation to save both Morrow and the other younger arms.

Lineups: Jays: Lewis, Escobar, Bautista, Wells, Lind, Hill, Overbay, Encarnacion, Molina.
Angels: Abreu, Aybar, Izturis, Hunter, Rivera, Kendrick, Napoli, Mathis, Bourjos.
Pitching: Kazmir v Rezepczynski.

Top 1st: Lewis leading off. Fred in a mini slump but yesterday’s walkoff RBI should help that. 2-2 count. Strike three looking. One down for Escobar. Great bunt up third base line and diving play, not in time, two down for Bautista. Full count. Ball four, two down one on for Wells. Way outside, even Vernon is not going after that one, and another, 2-0 count. 3-0, pops it up to short to end the inning. Pitch count. 18. Tampa has already lost 5-0 Baltimore who are playing very well right now and enjoying being the spoiler. Boston and New York games still going on.
Bottom 1st: Abreu leading off. Grounds to Hill, throw to Overbay one down. Aybar, 0-2 count. Great curve, strike three looking. Nice pitch Marc. Two down, Izturis, 0-2 count. Pops it up Overbay leaning into the Angels dugout gets a glove on it but ball out of the glove. It would have been a great catch. Does not impact the inning. Izturis lines it to Bautista in right. Pitch count. 12.

Top 2nd: Lind, DH tonight. This one is big trouble, lines it to the wall in right centre, off the glove of leaping Borjos up against the wall, and Lyle is all the way to third on the throw. Hill now with runner at third. Horrible at bat, pops it up to second, no chance for Lind to tag and score. Maybe time to move Hill down the order Cito. One down for Overbay. 3-1 count. Ball four. Two on one down for Encarnacion. That’s better Edwin, lines it into right, here comes Lind 1-0 Jays, Overbay at second, two on, one down for Molina. Not good, grounds it to Aybar at short, over to Kendrick at second on to Napoli at first double play ball to end this one. Jays hitting in to far many of these, but if you don’t send the runners then no one to blame. Next year will be different, the GM is stacking this team with speed and will get a Manager who will use it. Pitch count 33.
Bottom 2nd: Rezepczynski has a lead to work with. Hunter leading off. Lines it to Escobar at short, throw to Overbay one down. Rivera, 1-2 count. Lines it into right, fan interference and Rivera to second. Kendrick, grounds to Escobar, looks Rivera back to second,.throw to Overbay for second out. Napoli, grounds to Escobar, busy guy, throw to Overbay to end this one. Pitch count 25.

Top 3rd: Lewis leading off. 2-2 count. Down and away strike three, Fred is getting predictable. Escobar, 2-2 count. Just misses full count. Strike three looking on the corner. Two down for Bautista, launches this one but just a high pop up to Abreu in left. Pitch count 47.
Bottom 3rd: Mathis grounds to Hill, throw to Overbay one down for Borjos. Hits him on the elbow. One on one down for top of the order again Abreu. Oh boy, hits Abreu in the back, come on Marc get a grip here. Two on one down for Aybar. Grounds to Overbay throw to Escobar no time for double play. Izturis with two on the corners and two down. 2-2 count. Full count. Whoa Izturis swing s at ball four outside and Rezepczynski. Is out of this inning. Pitch count 40.

Top 4th: Wells leading off. 3-1 count. Ball four and Vernon walks. Lind, pitch gets away and Vernon moves to second, Lind pulls it into right, too shallow for Vernon to score, holds up at third, runners at the corners again for Hill. Nobody out. 1-2 count. That’s better Hill lines it into centre Bourjos makes nice diving catch but here comes Vernon to score run number two. 2-0 Jays. One down for Overbay. Singles into centre, two on one down for Encarnacion. 2-2 count. Pops it up to Hunter in right , Lind tags on the throw to get to third. Two down for Molina. Lines it to seond to make nice running catch. Jays get one but could have and should have been more. Pitch count now 68.
Bottom 4th: Hope Rezepczynski has calmed down, much too wild last inning. Hunter leading off. Grounds to Encarnacion at third, long throw to Overbay one down, Rivera, full count. Strikes out swinging at ball four outside. Two down. Kendrick, 2-2 count. Full count, Molina thinks it a strike. Does not matter, grounds to Escobar throw to Overbay for third out. Pitch count. 55.

Top 5th: Lewis leading off grounds to first fumbles the ball but Kazmir gets there for the throw to beat Lewis, one down for Escobar. Gets hold of this one long fly ball to the wall, but Borjos has this one running back to the wall. Two quick outs for Bautista. 0-2 count. Bautista pops it up to Bourjos in shallow centre for third out. Pitch count 75.
Bottom 5th: Napoli leading off. Full count. Singles into right. One on for Mathis, wild pitch and Napoli safe on the throw at second. Molina has had his hands full behind the plate today with Rezepczynski, Bunting…. I love Mike Scioscia always trying something and usually the unexpected, my kind of manager. Wonder if he would like to come to Toronto next year? 2-2 count. Fly ball to Bautista, one down. Napoli not going anywhere on that throw. Bourjos, fly ball to Wells in centre, Napoli stays put again, two down for Abreu,2-2 count. Oh boy they had Napoli picked off, Encarnacion poor throw Escobar returns the favour, Napoli scrambles back to second. ouch that had better not hurt, that was slapstick and not funny to Cito. Strikes out. Pitch count 75.
More trouble brewing in Beantown, Texas have tied up their game 9-9 after being behind to Red Sox 8-2. Now in the 9th . No sign yet of Papelbon….

Top 6th: Wells leading off. 2-2 count. Gets under this one high fly ball to Abreu in left, for the first out. Jays hitters have been hitting Kazmir hard when they do connect but just not far enough , dying at the wall each time. Lind, 3-1 count. Here’s another one, high pop up to Bourjos in centre, two down for Hill. Pops it up to second for the third out. Pitch count 88.
Bottom 6th: Aybar leading off 2-2 count. That’s much better grounds up the middle great play and throw by Escobar to Overbay to get runner. Made up for his last play. Izturis grounds first pitch to Hill throw to first, two down and a clinic by the infield here. Bourjos, 2-2 count. Hunter strikes out swinging. 89 pitch count.

Top 7th: Rodriguez now pitching, Overbay leading off. 2-2 count. Strikes out swinging. Encarnacion not one who needs to redeem himself after that pickoff snafu. Full count, way outside ball four, hard to walk Encarnacion with his swinging nature. Molina with one on one down. First pitch fly ball to Hunter in right, two down. Lewis, one on two down. Showing bunt ? hmm. 1-2 count, this is big trouble. Lewis hammers this one to the wall in centre, Bourjos playing far too shallow, has to chase it and here comes Encarnacion sliding through to score 3-0 Jays and Lewis at second for Escobar. Lewis almost caught off the bat at second, has to dive back in. Cito would love that. Grounds back up the middle Oh dear, Aybar fumbles the ball and everyone safe. Bautista with Lewis at third and Escobar at first. 2-2 count. That was ball three Jose. Strikes out swinging but another important run here for the Jays.
Bottom 7th: Rivera leading off , grounds to Overbay flip to Rezepczynski beats Rivera to the bag at first, one down. Kendrick, 1-2 count. Strikes out looking, number six for Rezepczynski two down. Napoli, Camp and Downs working in bullpen. 0-2 count. grounds to Escobar throw to Overbay for third out. Great outing by Rezepczynski.

Top 8th: Battle of the bullpens in Arlington and Papelbon has pitched one scoreless inning now in the 11th. Scott Shields now pitching for Angels. Wells leading off. Full count. Ball four, Vernon has been very patient in his at bats tonight. Lind, That was the pitch Adam, 0-2 count. Strikes out on three pitches but missed the one to hammer. One down for Hill, that’s better hammers it to left, Abreu makes a sliding grab, Vernon thought it was a catch and starts to retreat to first now Vernon has to scramble and beats the throw at second. Two on one down for Overbay, Full count. Hammers it deep to centre, Bourjos makes the grab no advance by the runners. Encarnacion, two down. 0-2 count, grounds to first Shields has it and tags Encarnacion for third out. Jays miss chance there to add to the lead. Here comes Downs for the 8th.
Boston loses on an 11th inning home run by Cruz off Wakefield ?? Boston uses up eight pitchers tonight in losing cause. Red Sox nation in deep mourning. Come on our boys, win this one and send a comforting message east.
Bottom 8th: Downs now pitching Mathis leading off 2-2 count, strikes out swinging. One down for Bourjos, bunting, Downs goes for it an misses here comes Hill great play scoops it off the ground bare hand to Overbay for second out. Bang bang play no room for error. Abreu, 1-2 count. Grounds to Encarnacion throw wide of first and Abreu safe. Should have been an out Edwin. That’s much better, Aybar also bunting Encarnacion ready and throws on the run to Overbay who tags him out to end this one. Nice defence by Hill and Encarnacion.

Top 9th: Kohn pitching, Molina leading off. Grounds to Izturis at third, throw to Napoli at first for the out. Lewis. Full count. Ball four but I think Fred has a case it looked way outside. Gregg and camp warming up in bullpen. Two down for Escobar, singles into left. One on for Bautista, 1-1 Bautista does not like that call, looked low, Oh wow what a play, Jose lines it to the wall in left centre Bourjos sprinting flat out dives and makes a great catch. Robs Jose there of an RBI as Escobar would have scored easily.
Bottom 9th: Camp or Gregg? Kevin it is two days ina row.. Izturis leading off, 2-2 count. Pops it up to third Escobar has it behind Encarnacion, one down for Hunter, 1-2 count, strikes out swinging, two down for Rivera. 2-0 count. Grounds to Escobar, throw to Overbay and this is another win for the Jays. 3-0.

Excellent: Rezepczynski a great outing. Backed by some great defence tonight from the infield. Enough to get this win and make up ground on Tampa and Boston both losing tonight.
Save number 26 for Gregg.
