Jays get hammered by Boston and no help from Romero, Tallet or the hitters

Game one of three Boston v Toronto Friday July 9.

Boston limping into Toronto looking for some relief from their problems, injuries and a losing streak. Probably this series is just what they need unless the Jays can get some consistency going with both pitching and hitting. They did last night but can they carry on tonight. Romero pitching and he had a lousy start last time so they are due for a good one tonight.

Lineups: Boston: Scutaro, McDonald, Ortiz, Youkilis, Beltre, Drew, Cameron, Hall, Cash.
Toronto: Lewis, Gonzalez, Bautista, Wells, Buck, Hill, Overbay, Encarnacion, Molina.
Pitching: Lester v Romero. Jays hitters are in for a rough night.

Huge crowd here already but lots of red shirts all around. My colleagues have left town and sold their tickets and of course Red Sox fans always descend on Toronto for the weekend. Why is that some of the Red Sox fans are so objectionable on the road ? yet at Fenway they are so knowledgeable about the game and definitely not boorish. Don’t like the stadium, don’t like the price of the beer, don’t like this on and on and on, and the game has not even started. Am thinking of moving my seat if they do it in the game.

Top 1st: Scutaro leading off grounds back to Romero throw to Overbay at first, one down for Darnell McDonald, pops up to Bautista in right. Two down. Ortiz grounds to Overbay at first for the third out.
Bottom 1st: Lewis leading off fly ball to McDonald in left. Gonzalez fly ball to Cameron in centre. Two down for Bautista full count and walks. Wells pops up to Hall at second. Quick three up and down.

Top 2nd: Youkilis grounds to Hill throw to Overbay. One down for Beltre doubles to centre. One on for Drew, strikes out. Two down for Cameron, singles to centre, here comes Beltre 1-0 Boston. Cameron to second. Hall gets hold of this one into right field over the fence, home run. 3-0 Boston. Cash strikes out but Boston are off and running here.
Bottom 2nd: Buck pops up to Youkilis. One down for Hill, fly ball to Cameron in centre, two down. Overbay full count and walks. Cito will not be happy with that, he prefers Lyle to swing away. Encarnacion with two down fly ball to McDonald in left.

Top 3rd: Jays already behind and a tough team to beat the odds. Ex-Jay Scutaro leading off, singles to left. McDonald with one on, singles to centre, Scutaro to third. Two on no outs. Ortiz walks, McDonald to second. Two on for Youkilis, doesn’t miss this gift. Sac fly to Lewis. Scutaro scores 4-0 Boston. Jays are just not on the same page in skill sets. Beltre 3-0 and ball four, bases loaded. McDonald to third, Ortiz to second. Drew grounds to Overbay, behind the bag and Overbay’s throw home is wild. McDonald scores 5-0 Boston. Drew safe. Error to Lyle. Bases still loaded. Cameron 3-0 and ball four. Ortiz scores 6-0 Boston. That’s it for Romero, Cito has had enough, NO , our favourite pitcher, the guy who loves fires… Tallet. Bases loaded for Hall, fly ball to Wels, another sac fly, Beltre scores, 7-0 Boston. Cash full count and walks run in 8-0 Boston. the bases loaded again. Drew to third, Cameron to second. Scutaro singles to left here comes Cash. 9-0 Boston. McDonald singles to left, here comes Cash, 10-0. Ortiz two down, pops up to Encarnacion for the final out after a very, very long inning. 10-0 Boston.
Bottom 3rd: How do Jays answer that marathon? Molina leading off, strikes out. Lewis one down strikes out. Two down for Gonzalez, strikes out. That is what you call an emphatic message and awful, awful hitting.

Top 4th: Youkilis leading off. Tallet still out there. Why does Cito do this to the fans? Youkilis, full count, there it goes hammers this one to left. 11-0 Boston. Even their fans cannot believe this, they were in a four game losing streak, they love this pitching tonight. But then again most teams love Tallet pitching. Beltre with no outs, there it goes again, this time a blast to centre, back to back home runs.12-0 Boston. Drew with no outs and no one on. Can he go back to back to back ? grounds to Hill throw to first Overbay for out number one. Cameron, another full count, here it goers again into left field over the wall in left. The third home run. 13-0 Boston. Finally Cito appears and that is it for Tallet for three outs. He has thrown a load of pitches and seven runs have scored. Casey Janssen now pitching. One down. Hall grounds to Gonzalez throw to Overbay at first, two down. Cash grounds to Encarnacion at third, throw to Overbay to end yet another disasterous inning. 13-0 Red Sox.
Bottom 4th: Patterson in at second. McDonald in at right. Nava in left field. Hall in at short. Bautista pops up to Youkilis at first. One down for Wells fly ball to Nava in left. Two down for Buck, singles to centre. Hill with one lines out to Hall. Three up and down. No fight tonight in this group. They may be still shell-shocked after that big third inning.

Top 5th: Janssen still pitching. McDonald in at short for Gonzalez, his night is over. Patterson leading off strikes out. One down for McDonald fy ball to Lewis. Two down. Ortiz grounds to Hill throw to Overbay. After thirteen runs Jays will take this three up and down inning.
Bottom 5th: Shealy now in for Youkilis at first. Overbay leading off strikes out. One down for Encarnacion, strikes out. Two down for Molina, strikes out. The second inning since the third where Jays hitters have rolled over, three up and down. Obviously thinking about their night on the town, certainly not this game. The good is that the Red Sox fan has shut up grumbling.

Top 6th: Shealy grounds to Hill throw to Overbay. One down for Beltre fly ball to Bautista in right. Two down for Nav full count and walks. Cameron singled to right, Nava to third. Hall with two down and two on. Lines it to right. This is trouble, bounces into the crowd but that was fair ball for Hall, lines to right, bounces into the crowd, here comes Nava followed by Cameron, Janssen arguing with umpire and now thrown out. I think he was trying to say ground rule double and Cameron should be at third. Cito takes up the argument. Umpires confer and call Cameron back. Not that difficult a decision as most people around us are telling the umpire. Casey still out though. Purcey pitching.
to Cash fly ball to Lewis leaving two on.
Bottom 6th: Lewis grounds to Shealy at first, one down for Johnny Mc. lifts this one into left corner, hits the foul pole, another homerun for McDonald. Too bad only one run. here but Jays are on the board !!! 14-1, even the Boston fans in front of us are sarcastically applauding. Bautista grounds to second and beats the throw. Wise pinch-running for Bautista, his night is over. Wells with runner on, grounds to Beltre at third throw to Patterson, Wise out at second. Buck doubles to left, here comes Wells and now 14-2 game. Hill grounds to Beltre at third throw to Shealy to finish this rally.Jays get two but that’s it.

Top 7th: Wise in at right field for Bautista. Patterson grounds to third, throw not in time to Overbay. One on for McDonald strikes out. Ortiz full count and walks. Patterson to second. Shealy with two on strikes out. Beltre walks bases loaded, Patterson to third, Ortiz to second. Nava fly ball to Wise in right for the out, leaving the bases loaded.
Bottom 7th: Manuel now pitching. Overbay fly ball to Cameron in centre field. One down. Encarnacion, same play fly ball to Cameron in centre field. flied out to center fielder Cameron. Molina with two down gets hold of this one, no doubt at all as it flies to centre field. Home run Jays. Lewis full count and walks. Two down one on for McDonald, pops out to Hall.

Top 8th: Cameron grounds to McDonald at short, throw to Overbay. One down for Hall doubles to right. Cash grounds to Encarnacion throw to Overbay two down for Patterson strikes out.
Bottom 8th: Wise fly ball to McDonald in right field. Wells with one on, doubles to centre. Buck fly ball to Cameron in centre, Wells moves up to third. Hill grounds back pitcher Manuel to first baseman Shealy.

Top 9th: Frasor now pitching to finish this one off unless of course Jays tie it up in the bottom of the ninth. McDonald leading off and walks. Ortiz grounds back to Frasor throw to Overbay to get Ortiz, McDonald in a rundown, throw to (Jays) McDonald back to Overbay to get McDonald, double play. Shealy with two down pops up to McDonald at short.
Bottom 9th: Richardson now pitching. Overbay leading off singles to centre. One on good start. Encarnacion grounds to Beltre at third, throw to Patterson at second on Shealy at first double play ball. Nothing going right for Jays tonight. Molina walks. Too bad about that double play now. Lewis with one on grounds to Patterson at second, throw to Shealy at first and this one is over.
Jays totally embarrassed by this performance. All round. Although Tallet failed to put the fire out in the third and made it even worse, this was not just a lousy, pathetic pitching performance. The hitting was just as worse. Although at least three Jays hits died at the walls and any one could have gone out as they did last night, it was not to be and Jays have to regroup fast for tomorrow’ s game.

The good: Hard to think of anything but I would say the bullpen tonight of Janssen, Purcey and Frasor. The bad: Where do we start? from the third inning on in this book. Five of Red Sox starting lineup had multiple hit game. Jays had one, John Buck. And four Jays had no hit at all.

The terrible: New category for tonight to put Tallet in. Tallet should be on the Vegas bus right now but we all know it will never happen whilst Cito is the manager which fortunately is now only half a season more. Cito likes Tallet and continues to trot him out there despite the predictable and consistent walks. Tonight his one inning !!! performance was 43 pitches yes 43, three home runs, five hits, and four earned runs. It was 6-0 when he came into the game and 13-0 when he left.
