Embarrassing, pathetic, disgusting, you make it as Jays get thrashed by Yankees

Game two of three Jays v Yankees. Saturday July 3rd.

Reed released did not like his assignment, Encarnacion back, Hoffpauir has gone ironically after his best performance of his short stay. Rzepcynski also back in place of Marcum will start next week.

Lineups: Toronto: I don’t like this lineup: Green in place of Lewis, Gonzalez, Bautista, Wells, Buck, Overbay, Hill, Encarnacion, McDonald in left , Cito come on, he is not a left fielder.
New York: Jeter, Swisher, Teixeira, Rodriguez, Cano, Posada, Granderson, Huffman, Gardner,
Pitching: Romero v Pettite.

Top 1st: Reed, singles to left, Gonzalez pops up to Cano at second. Bautista, here we go hammers this one to centre. This one is out of here, here comes Green here comes Jose, 2-0 Jays. Wells now, 0-13 run, being patient here for Vernon, full count and ball four. Buck singles to centre, Wells moves up to second. Pettite still having problems here. Hill fly ball to Huffman in right great catch that saves two more runs, Wells moves to third on the throw. Overbay now with two on and two down, pops up to Jeter for third out. 2-0 Jays, could have been more. Romero has nice lead to work with. You know he will be focused. 26 pitch inning for Pettite.
Bottom 1st: Jeter, full count, Romero knows that this team is very patient at the plate Ball four inside. Ricky has to throw strikes today. Swisher, grounds to Gonzalez, throw to Overbay for the out, no chance for two. Teixeira with Jeter at second. Pops it up to Gonzalez back pedaling to make the catch. Nice play. Two down for Rodriguez. Gets hold of this one huge fly ball but foul. That was hammered. 2-2 count. strikes out swinging. Nice start Ricky. 19 pitches.

Top 2nd: Encarnacion, strengthens third, 2-2 count. Full count, pops up to Pasada but not until eight pitch at bat. McDonald, what does he have today? Has not looked at all focused last week grounds to third, Rodriguez throw to first for the out. Green, first pitch, oh no not another one. Pops it up to first. Very quick up and down for three. 12 pitches of which Encarnacion took eight of them. 38 for Pettite.
Bottom 2nd: Cano leading off. Strikes out swinging. One down for Posada. Doubles into right field corner. Stops at second when he sees Bautista. One on, one down for Granderson, lines it to Vernon, two down, Posada has to stay at second. Huffman 2-2 count. Full count. Strikes out swinging. Strikeout number three for Romero today. 42 pitch count. These Yankees are VERY patient. Some of the Jays players could take lots of notes.

Top 3rd: Gonzalez leading off. Strikes out swinging. One down for Bautista, pops up to Granderson in centre. Two down for Wells, pathetic, first pitch come on Vernon, grounds to third, throw to first for the out. Romero deserves better than this garbage at bats. Seven yes seven pitches for Pettite. 45 pitch count.
Bottom 3rd: Gardner, shows bunt, strike one. Singles to right, one on for Jeter, 3-1 count, Romero distracted with Gardner at first ready to take off any pitch. There he goes but fouled off. Full count. Ball four. Two on no outs for Swisher. Bunting but curve ball and strike. Singles to McDonald in left. Bases loaded for Teixeira. Good luck Ricky. Lines it to left. Here comes two runs. 2-2. Rodriguez with two and still no outs, grounds it up the middle under the glove of Romero to Gonzalez throw to first here comes run number three. Romero could have had that. Runner at third one down for Cano. 3-2 Yankees. Singles to right, 4-2 Yankees. Conference on the mound. Posada, Lines it to Wells in centre for second out. Fortunately Vernon can still field even if he can’t hit right now. Granderson. Grounds to Hill, throw not in time to get Granderson. Speed…. Huffman, 0-2 count. Hits him. Bases loaded. Romero not a happy guy right now. Gardner, Yankees batting around. Tallet ??? up in bullpen. Full count, this might be his last batter if he loses him here. Well… not just loses him but hammers this to right field grand slam. 8-2 Yankees. Get him out of the there Cito. Here comes Tallet. Might as well eat up some innings even if Yankees score another ten. They are not going to beat Pettite with a six run lead the way they are recklessly swinging. Jeter, first pitch to the backstop, this should be interesting. 3-0 count. Ball four. That’s our Tallet. Swisher, now they are swinging like the Jays. Another full count. Ball four, two successive walks. Teixeira, 2-0, another wild pitch moves both runners up. 3-1 count. Ball four. Loads the bases with successive walks and you wonder Cito why this guy is still in the 40 man roster? A-Rod with bases loaded chance for two grand slams in same inning, that would be a great record. NO !!! gives it a great shot, pops it up to McDonald in left, who yes you’re right drops it. Should have left it for Vernon right there. Three runs score anyway. 11-2. Cano with Rodriguez on second. This is pathetic. Lines it to Bautista for third out but that was the very worst inning this underachieving team has played. Big changes ahead Cito. That long inning was also in a very hot almost 40 degrees Celsius. Jays hitters are not going to be too happy having to go back out there.

Top 4th: Now let’s see what this crew has left. Buck, here we go first pitch lines to Jeter, one pitch one down. Hill, strikes out swinging two down. Overbay, full count, grounds to Cano at second, throw to first. Jays have to get back out there and it is HOT today. Lots of the crowd out of their seats getting liquid.
Bottom 4th: Cano leading off grounds first pitch to Gonzalez, throw to first for the out Yankees are feeling sorry for this Jays side. Granderson also swinging at first pitch, grounds to Hill throw to first two down three pitches. Huffman strikes out, only eight pitch inning. They will love Tallet for that. But I think Yankees also want this over now.

Top 5th: Encarnacion, Edwin probably wishes he was still in Vegas. Full count. Grounds to Jeter, throw to first, one down. McDonald still in the game, has a lot to repay his teammates today. Pops it up to shallow right, Jeter makes the catch very similar to the one McDonald dropped. Green, strikes out swinging.
Bottom 5th: Gardner leading off 3-1 and ball four. Jeter already with three walks, ties career high ! WHOA !!! grounds to Gonzalez flip to Hill over to Overbay double play ball. Two down for Swisher, grounds to Encarnacion throw to Overbay for third out.

Top 6th: Jays still have to score runs. Pettite only 77 pitches ! I guess you can do that when a team swings at first pitches most of the time. Gonzalez leading off. Yes Alex, golfs this one into the left field bullpen, home run Alex. That was funny. One hand home run ! I don’t think Pettite is amused though. 11-3. Bautista, 3-1 count. Pops it up to right. One down for Wells. 0-15 slide. Strikes out. 0-16. Jays are not going to do much without this guy getting back on track. Two down for Buck. 3-0 count. Count full. Singles into right. Hill with one on one down. Grounds to Jeter flip to second to get Buck. Is this the last one for Pettite? They had him in the first but let him off the hook. 97 pitches.

Bottom 6th: Wise in centre for Wells, I like this guy, really hustles, has speed and a bat and plays as if he really wants to be out there. Teixeira, doubles off the wall. Jays really need someone with an arm in left. McDonald throw not in time. They could have had him. Rodriguez, 3-0 count. Tallet has already walked four. Pops it up in right to Bautista. One down. Cano pops up first pitch to Buck, very un-Yankee like. Two down for Posada, first pitch high fly ball to left. McDonald makes the catch. I get the feeling that Yankee hitters want this one over and fast.

Top 7th: Can Jays get a big inning ? Dustin Mosely, first game as a Yankee, has been in Triple A. this season, now pitching, they are giving Jays a chance? Overbay grounds (first pitch) to Jeter throw to first, so much for checking the new pitcher out, Encarnacion. Strikes out on three. Two down. McDonald 0-2 first pitch back to Mosely, FIVE pitches. Don’t tell me this team has heart and fight. That was pathetic hitting even for this group.
Bottom 7th: Lind in the game at first. Casey Janssen now pitching. Granderson leading off. Grounds to Gonzalez, throw to Lind for the out. Huffman, 0-2 count. Strikes out swinging. Two down Gardner, 3-0 count. Count full. Grounds to Hill, throw to Lind. Casey his usual good self.

Top 8th: Russo at third, Pena at short. A-Rod and Jeter taking a rest. Green tried first pitch swing but missed anyway. Strikes out. Gonzalez, grounds first pitch to Pena throw to first for the out. Two down for Bautista, 2-0 count. Grounds to Cano, throw to first.
Bottom 8th: Casey still out there. Green now at second, Pena leading off. Grounds to Lind throw to Janssen for the first out. Swisher, strikes out looking, two down for Curtis, pinch hitting for Teixeira. Strikes him out. Two excellent innings for Janssen.

Top 9th: Jays need eight to tie. Park pitching. Wise for Wells, pops it up to right, same play as the one McDonald dropped. Buck, same again to Gardner, Hill, needs the hitting practice, first pitch ! fly ball to Gardner. Makes all three catches and illustrates how bad the error by McDonald was.

Jays lose very badly today. Yankees only needed one inning today. 11-3 NY.
This is a very good Yankees team, they are leading the East but today, Jays did it to themselves. Take the three runs away from McDonald error. If Romero had made the play that went under his glove there was the first out and no run, and if Hill had been able to double up Granderson and Cano. Add those to the lousy hitting approach by Jays hitters and this could have been very different game.

The good: Hmm… hard this one. But let’s give Bautista who gave Jays short lead with his home run. Gonzalez also for his. And that’s it today although Tallet and Janssen did keep them scoreless for five innings even though game was over.

The bad: No the very bad: The rest of the lineup for their approach today, everyone of them who swung at first pitch today. McDonald for that error in left. Inexcusable. But then again Cito should not be putting him out there anyway. Vernon hitless again today and is deep trouble with his at bats. Just not getting it done and hitless in the last four games. Has probably hit the wall before the break but that is a good reason not to go. Take the four days rest Vernon.

Tomorrow Morrow's turn as Jays will try to salvage something here.
