Jays beat theYankees 7-1 with great pitching by Morrow and Encarnacion glove and bat.

Jays v Yankees Game two of four.

Apologies for delay in posting this.

Tonight: Morrow v Garcia. Another great crowd but I realise what I do not like about these games, all the season ticket holders around our seats have left for the weekend and their cottages, leaving all the tickets for the visiting fans. We are surrounded tonight by Yankees fans. It should be interesting night, they all seem upset about losing last night. I don’t want to tell them that they didn’t lose but were thrashed. Tonight let us see and once again without Jose. Although we do have little Bautista, way to go Curtis… very nice first pitch, a little high but loads of heat. Your Dad must have spent hours with you. Crazy Yankee fan in our row has a sign “Marry me Jeter”. I think it is going to be that kind of night. As Jay redhead says “the place is a rocking”.

Line-ups: Yankees: Jeter, Granderson, Teixeira, Cano, Swisher, Posada, Martin, Gardner, Nunez, and Garcia pitching.
Jays: Davis, Thames, Escobar, Lind, Hill, Snider, Encarnacion, Patterson, Molina, and Morrow pitching.

Top 1st: Jeter leading off, grounds to Lind at first, oh boy Adam, that was one horrible throw, Lind throws to Morrow but throws behind him as he comes to the bag at first, and misses him entierley. Fortunately Molina backing up the play or Jeter would be at second. Jeter safe at first as Lind gets the error. Granderson full count, ball four and Jeter to second. Two on and nobody out, this is not what Morrow had dreamed about. Teixeira, pops up to Encarnacion playing at third today in place of Bautista. Jose day to day but waiting for swelling to go down for an MRI. Let us all hope for the best. Cano fly ball to Snider in left, runner have to hold and two down for ever dangerous Swisher. Not this time as he pops it up to Escobar at shirt and Morrow gets two lives here. That could have been a nasty start. Lind also off the hook. Morrow not doing too well with his pitch count early. Always an issue.

Bottom 1st: Davis, good to see Rajai leading off even though his average has been so pitiful. I think this is his rightful spot and listening to him today he knows that he has to get on base to disrupt the pitcher, this stint leading off might help him take better at bats. Fly ball to Gardner in left. Well maybe next at bat Rajai. Thames lines it to centre, this guy has been red hot since he returned. Another double. Escobar, there we go singles to left and here comes Thames to get the Jays in flight early, 1-0 Jays. Lind, one down one on. Fly ball to Swisher in right, two down, Escobar tagging and gets to second, heads up play by Yunel. In scoring position for Hill, strikes out. But Jays go out ahead and continue from last night.

Top 2nd: Posada singles to centre. One on for Martin, ball four, second walk by Morrow, he escaped last inning can he do it again. Two on nobody out. Gardner.
grounds to Lind throw to Escobar to get Martin but Posada to third. Nunez, singles to left, here comes Posada and the Jays lead is short lived 1-1 game. Gardner moves up to second. Jeter, the lady with the sign is singing. Jeter ignores her. Strikes out but his marriage value is still ok. Granderson grounds to Hill throw to Lind. Morrrow escapes big damage again.

Bottom 2nd: Snider leading off, strikes out. He cannot get his bat around those 78mph pitches. Encarnacion, full count and ball four. Patterson, one down and one on, pops up to Teixeira. Two down for Molina, lines it to Swisher in right as Jays go runless this time.

Top 3rd: Teixeira leading off pops up to Encarnacion at third. One down, Cano lines it right at Encarnacion. The ball is following him around. Swisher, two down, strikes out. Much better inning for Morrow.

Bottom 3rd: Davis leading off, strikes out. One down for Thames, grounds to Teixeira throw to Garcia covering the bag at first, one down for Escobar, lines it to left and stand up double. 2-2 night already. Lind with runner in scoring position, strikes out. I think Adam has to start leading here now that Jose is on the bench.

Top 4th: Posada strikes out. Martin grounds to third, OH what a play by Edwin. Throws himself to his left, to get to this one in front of Escobar, and from the ground throws a strike to Lind. Amazing play, worthy of Bautista. We are always hard on Edwin with bat and especially his glove at third but that was a highlight reel play, not just to get to it but the throw on the mark was superb play. Even Jeter’s stalker is applauding that play. Gardner lines out to Encarnacion, busy guy is our Edwin tonight. BUT so far his glove has been excellent.

Bottom 4th: Hill grounds to Jeter throw to Teixeira. One down for Snider, very nice Travis, a bullet to right, low swing but so fast, stand up double. Encarnacion, there he goes, lines it to the wall in centre, Edwin is having a great game tonight, double number 20, he leads the team, and here comes Travis to put the Jays ahead again 2-1. Patterson with runner at first, strikes out. Two down for Molina, singles to centre, here comes Encarnacion, 3-1 Jays. Error by Graderson on the play, I sense some frustration here from Granderson. Molina moves up to second. Davis, grounds back to Garcia throw to Teixeira for third out but Jays have widened the lead.

Top 5th: Nunez grounds to Escobar throw to Lind for the out. Jeter, strikes out. His “would be” lady friend must be on her fifth beer and now flirting with the beer seller. Granderson, two down, strikes out. Nice inning for Brandon but his pitch count is very high.

Bottom 5th: Thames lines it to centre, Jays have finally figured out Garcia, another double for Thames. But something wrong here as the trainer and Farrell go out to him. May be his leg, I hope not another Bautista injury. He is staying out there at least for now. Escobar, full count and ball four to walk, two on and nobody out for Lind 3-0 Garcia is rattled, ball four to load the bases. Hill, that will do, grounds to Jeter, throw to Cano at second to get Lind, no chance for double play as Thames comes in to score, 4-1 Jays. Escobar to third. Snider, there goes Hill and safe at second without a throw, two in scoring position for Travis. This will do Travis, fly ball to Gardner in left, Escobar scores 5- 1 Jays. Encarnacion intentional walk, Edwin will love that respect.
Patterson, there goes Hill, going to third and slides in safe to beat the throw but Martin’s throw, goes under Hill and into left, HIll gets up and here he comes to score, 6-1 Jays. Oh that was a huge give away by Martin, no need to throw then. But give Hill lots of credit for hustle that forces the error and the play and Jays have another important run. On the play Edwin also goes to second. What a giveaway. Patterson can he bring Edwin in here. Not this time, fly ball to Swisher in right to end the inning but Jays break this one open with three more.

Top 6th: Teixeira leading off strikes out. One down for Cano, pops up to Hill at second. Swisher, singles to right. Posada grounds to Hill throw to Morrow covering for third out. A good quick inning for Morrow that may give him more for the seventh.

Bottom 6th: Wade now pitching. Molina leading off, singles to centre. His second hit tonight. Davis, ball four, Molina to second. Jays have something going here as well.
McCoy now pinch-hitting for Thames who may have done something on that double last inning. McCoy strikes out. Poor guy, up and down all season long and could be going back again if Lawrie ever gets to Toronto. Escobar strikes out. Two down for Lind, he strikes out. Wade strikes out the side after putting first two on.

Top 7th: Morrow out again to at least start this inning. He has pitched so very well after getting into trouble the first two innings and driving up the pitch count. McCoy stays in the game in as designated hitter for Thames. Martin leading off, grounds to Escobar, throw to Lind. One down. Gardner lines to Escobar. Two down for Nunez, singles to left. And here comes the Manager that is the end of the night for Morrow, get a standing ovation and very well deserved. 112 pitches, not perfect by any means but an excellent outing. Dotel now pitching. Jeter grounds to Lind, takes it himself to the bag. Two pitches for Dotel.

Bottom 7th: Hill grounds to Jeter throw to Teixeira. One down for Snider, singles to centre. Encarnacion lines very hard to Nunez at third, that was a bullet. Patterson, there goes Snider, safe at second. Jays have four stolen bases tonight. Patterson strikes out.

Top 8th- Rzepczynski now pitching. Granderson grounds to Escobar throw to Lind. One down for Teixeira, strikes out. Wicked pitching by Rzepczysnki. Cano strikes out. Back to back and looking very strong here, overpowered both Teixeira and Cano.

Bottom 8th: Mitre pitching. Second night for him as well. Good to see Jays hitters getting in to the Yankees bullpen. Sunday may be crucial if they are all beaten up in the first two games. Molina pops up to Gardner in left. One down for Davis, singles to left. McCoy hit by a pitch, helps any way he can, Davis to second. Escobar singles to right, here comes Davis, McCoy to third, 7-1 Jays. And third hit for Escobar. His average now has been flirting with .300 for some time. Back to .298. Lind, no,no Adam, grounds to Cano at second throw to Jeter over to Teixeira double play ball. Jays have left too many out there tonight.

Top 9th: Yankees down to their last outs. Frasor now pitching. Not a save situation and a chance to rest Rauch but it would not surprise me if Manager Farrell is giving Frasor an audition here for closer. Swisher, singles to centre, not a good start Jason. One on for Posada, that is much much better, grounds to Hill, throw to Escobar over to Lind, double play ball. Martin, with two down, crowd on their feet on two strikes, Martin singles to centre. Everyone sits again. We do not want to see a last minute wakeup by the Yankees Jason, let them sleep. Martin to second, defensive indifference. Gardner grounds to first, but beats out the throw, Martin to third. Nunez, there goes Gardner now to second. Another defensive indifference. Another two strikes, crowd up again, Frasor really making heavyt weather of this inning, Nunez strikes out. Well not sure Frasor is the closer of the future, he certainly made the game interesting. Not helped with the fan invadors but as most Jays fans know, Frasor is the pitcher who gives us far too many heart problems to be a closer.

Jays win number two and cannot lose this four game series. They would prefer one more out of the next two but two out of four will be deemed good.

The good: Definitely Edwin's night. A hot hand tonight with glove at third and his bat. Escobar with three hits, Hill with two stolen bases and his hustle created the Martin error and another run.He is doing as much as he can despite his poor bat. Not least of coiurse the pitching tonight. Morrow despite not having his best stuff went deep and the bullpen scoreless support.

The not so good: The bores who invaded the field and held up the game at two crucial points. And once again Jays 4-15 RISP. It did not affect the result but it is a real problem with this team some nights.

First two games Jays have outhit Yankees 23-8 and outscored 23-8, they must be stealing the signs, the big controversy today in New York at least. Poor Garcia.. as if. You can always change them you know. The problem is for the Yankees is that this side is OLD, and yes OLD….. even without A-Rod who would add a few more years to the average age. We were all reminded of this tonight when we saw the stat that Rivera, Jeter and Posada had played together on the same team for 17, (YES 17) years. Half of the Jays current line-up are only a few years older than that. Let’s see the rest of the season how the old guys do.
