Jays lose 5 hour marathon but unable to convert chances to win in 14.

Jays v Angels Game two.

Lineups: Jays: Davis, Hill, Bautista, Lind, Rivera, Arencibia, Snider, Encarnacion, McDonald and Cecil pitching. Come on John, why oh why is Encarnacion playing at third? Nix should be out there each and every day until Lawrie gets here. Rivera at DH. Still no Escobar but could be tomorrow.
Angels: Izturis, Kendrick, Abreu, Hunter, Wells, Callaspo, Trumbo, Mathis, Bourjos and Palmer pitching. Palmer late sub from AAA Salt Lake for Kazimir who has back injury.

Top 1st: Davis leading off. Did not have a great game last night so will be eager to get on base and stir it up tonight. Grounds to Hendrick at second, throw to Trumbo one down. Hill, fly ball to Hunter in right. Bautista with two down. full count, singles to Bourjos in centre. Lind, No, Bautista picked off by catcher Mathis. Not good to end the inning like that Jose.
Bottom 1st: Izturis, grounds to Hill on to Lind, one down. Kendrick, gets hold of this one out of here in centre, home run to Kendrick 1-0 Angels. Abreu singles to right, Cecil not fooling anyone tonight yet. That’s better, Hunter grounds to Johnny Mc. on to Hill throw to Lind double play to get out of this one, but Jays are down one.

Top 2nd: Lind singles to Hunter in right, Rivera, two hits in last night’s game, not this time strikes out swinging, one down for Arencibia. Excellent JP doubles down the right field line, Lind to third. Snider now with two in scoring position, that will do it, grounds to Izturis, here comes Lind 1-1 game, Snider out at first n the throw to Trumbo, Arencibia moves up to third. Encarnacion with two down, grounds to short, throw to first for third out. At least there was no double play. Palmer 30 pitches.
Bottom 2nd: Vernon leading off .097 start to the season, walks on this one. Callaspo grounds to Hill on to McDonald, over to Lind double play ball, ouch. Trumbo, patient here, full count, strikes out swinging. Cecil being helped tonight with the double play balls.

Top 3rd: McDonald bunting back to Palmer, but safe on the throw, one on for Davis. Grounds to short, Davis safe at first on the error by Izturis. Johnny Mc to second. Jays have something going here for Hill. Pops up to short, one down for Bautista, time for a blast Jose. 3-0 not giving him anything to get hold of, there’s a strike, full count, ball four. Bases loaded for Lind. Well that will do sac fly to Vernon in left, here comes McDonald. 2-1 Jays. Rivera with two on and two down, not this time grounds to short throw to second to get Bautista, Jays leave two more out there. Getting their chances just not converting them. 0-4 with runners in scoring position in first three innings, remains their big weakness.
Bottom 3rd: Mathis singles to Snider in left, Travis fumbles the play and Mathis to second on the error. Bourjos bunting to Lind throw to Hill for the out but Mathis moves to third on the play. Izturis, full count, doubles into left corner, here comes Mathis 2-2 game. Kendrick, grounds to short throw to first but Izturis to third again on the play. Abreu, drops it behind third base, another run scores, 3-2 Angels. Angels giving Jays a lesson on small ball tonight. Abreu at first for Hunter singles to left, Cecil may not be long for this game, just not the sane pitcher he was last year for whatever reason. Here comes Walton finally. Two on for Vernon Wells. Singles to left, here comes the run 4-2 but Hunter thrown out by Bautista at third. Replay shows he was not out, Encarnacion tag high and late. But bottom line is that Cecil is giving this game away. 50 pitches, seven hits and a walk in three innings.

Top 4th: Palmer now with a two run lead. Arencibia, strikes out swinging, one down for Snider. Drives it into left centre for Wells to make the catch, two down for Encarnacion, singles into left, McDonald, doubles into left, Wells throw Encarnacion goes back to third. Davis with two in scoring position. Singles into centre, here comes McDonald Encarnacion scores, Bourjos throw not in time, two runs score 4-4 game, throw to first Davis in run down, throw to second and Davis beats throw as it bounces away. Hill now. Singles to left, here comes the throw from Vernon Davis speed beats the throw Hill to second on the throw. 5-4 Jays. Bautista now, singles to left, Vernon gets Hill at the plate, maybe a little rash there. Knowing it was Vernon throwing but Jays have the lead again, can Cecil hold it ? Texas hammering Baltimore 13-1.

Bottom 4th: Callaspo, full count, singles into centre. Trumbo, Cecil needs a ground ball here. Jays bullpen warming up Cecil not long for this one unless he smartens up here. Singles into right, Callaspo into third, two on no outs, Mathis, strikes out. One down Bourjos, lines it to Snider, throw not in time run scores and Cecil has given this up again 5-5. Two down. Trumbo to second, Izturis, grounds to Hill throw to first but damage is already done again. Cecil has been in trouble every inning and if he had not been rescued by two double plays this score could be ugly.
Top 5th: Depressing for the Jays offence each inning to have to start again, Lind, grounds to right great play by Kendrick throw to first for the out. Rivera loops it to Kendrick at second two down, Arencibia. Whoa, JP doubles to centre and is going for three and slides in safe at third, his second triple of the season. That’s it for Palmer. Rick Thompson pitching, Snider golfs it to right field corner but he is the third out and Arencibia is left at third.

Bottom 5th: Cecil still out there, Farrell has more faith than most, Kendrick singles to left, I rest my case, Cecil has nothing. Ten hits !!! and he is still in there? Come on John. Now the bullpen is warming up, but may be a little late to stop this next run here. Abreu, lines it to Snider in left. Hunter, strikes out, two down. Wells, Cecil had better be careful here to Vernon. Grounds it to third throw to second to get Kendrick. Cecil escapes trouble.
Top 6th: Encarnacion, high pop up to center for Bourjos, one down for McDonald. 2-2 tonight. Singles to Wells in left, 3-3 hot hot..... One on one down for Davis. Lines this one to Wells at the wall in left centre. Hill, they have Johnny Mc. picked off, but Thompson drops the ball and Johnny Mc. safe at second. But Hill has to bring him in now. Fly ball to Bourjos in centre. Jays leave McDonald out there, 3-9 with runners in scoring position.

Bottom 6th: Cecil finally pulled, 81 pitches but he had nothing tonight and escaped several times by the skin of his teeth.11 hits, five runs. Villanueva now pitching. Callaspo, just misses that foul pole in right. Grounds to Lind, takes it himself to get Callaspo. First inning since the first that leadoff Angel has not reached. That was how bad Cecil was. Pitching with a guy on all night long and always on the defensive. One down for Trumbo, strikes out, two down. Mathis strikes out, Angels go one two three.

Top 7th: Bautista leading off. Kevin Jepsen pitching, Jose 2-2 tonight with a walk. Full count, ball four, not giving him anything there. Lind now. Wild pitch and Jose moves to second, another wild pitch and Jose now at third, that is huge as a fly ball now will score Jose. Oh man, strikes out. One down for Rivera, he will not be taking. No grounds to Izturis, Jose has to wait and throw to first to get Rivera. That’s it for Jepsen. Takahashi, with two down, this is depressing to watch. Arencibia intentional walk. Snider now, 0-3 tonight, 3-1 count, will Travis take this one? No, fouls off and full count. Painful, pops up to right. That was awful by Jays hitters, runner at third and no outs and cannot bring him in, 3-12 !!! with runners in scoring position. Snider the second consecutive at bat he has done this. Baltimore loses tonight so Jays could go out ahead in first place tonight if they win. Have to win first though.
Bottom 7th: Bourjos walks, Izturis strikes out swinging, one down. Kendrick. Perfect grounds to Johnny Mc on to Hill on to Lind double play ball. The third one tonight.
Top 8th: Now can these Jays hitters get it going? Now pitching, Fernando Rodney again. Encarnacion leading off. No double play at least. Swings at first pitch pops it up to Bourjos, One down, McDonald 3-3 tonight. If he can do it Encarnacion should be able to. Not this time though grounds to third, nice diving save and throw to first to get him, two down. Davis also going after the first pitch, just not the same with Escobar behind him. Pops it up to second, Jays go very quietly.

Bottom 8th: Rzepczynski now pitching. Abreu leading off. Full count, strikes him out, very nice Marc. Hunter, with one down, lines it to Bautista in right, two down. Vernon Wells, whoa very nice, grounds to short, great play by Johnny Mc to gather, throw and get Vernon at first. Bang bang play. Johnny Mc having a great game tonight reminding Farrell that he still has it as Escobar returns tomorrow.

Top 9th: Hill leading off. Jordan Walden pitching, full count. Grounds to short, throw to first one down. Bautista full count, singles off the glove at third, on base four times tonight, Lind, full count, taking or swinging? Lines to Wells in left, two down, Jose has to stay at first. Rivera, 0-4 tonight, singles up the middle off the glove off Hendrick and both runners safe. McCoy pinch running for Rivera. Two on two outs for Arencibia. Oh boy grounds to third throw to first to end this one. One more left in scoring position.
Bottom 9th: Rzepczynski still pitching. Callaspo leading off. Pops up to Hill, one down, Trumbo. Fly ball to Bautista in right, two down, Mathis, fly ball to Davis. Rzepczynski did his job. Extra innings game.

Top 10th: Jays have had their chances to win this tonight just unable to bring in the runners. Mihceal Kohn pitching, Snider leading off, Travis an 0-4 night. Might be sitting tomorrow if he goes 0-5. Not this time hit by pitch, one way to get on Travis. One on for Encarnacion ?? No pinch hitter John ? fly ball to Wells, No idea what anyone sees in Encarnacion. McDonald with Travis at first. Ball four and a walk, two on for Davis. One down. Davis strikes out swinging, two down, Hill. Pops up to Mathis. Jays two more left in scoring position. 3-15 that is farcical. Meantime Angels show them how by going 3-6.
Bottom 10th: Frasor now pitching, Bourjos leading off, strikes out swinging, one down, but now the top of the order, Izturis, strikes out, two down,. Kendrick grounds back to Frasor,

Top 11th: Heart of Jays order now, they have to get it done here. Bautista, walks again, we have been here before. Lind, when is he going to show something when it actually counts? Grounds back to pitcher throw to first to get Lind, Jose to second, one down McCoy. Called out on strikes. Pathetic. We need hits Mike not taking strikes. Two down for Arencibia, that’s it for Kuhn, Bulger now pitching. Pops up to Trumbo to leave yet another out there. 3-17.
Bottom 11th: Angels sending Abreu, Hunter, Wells. You know how this one is ending, Frasor still out there. Grounds to Encarnacion and Yes you guessed this one right, throwing error by Edwin to first. Abreu safe. Now this is Manager Farrell’s responsibility, he should have lifted Encarnacion innings ago if only for his lousy defence let alone his bat. Nix should be out there. Buit evidently Edwin is the blind spot for Jays management they keep sending him out there. And this is going to cost them the game, That’s it for Frasor not his fault, Dotel now pitching, Hunter with one on. Singles to right, Abreu to third, nobody out, Vernon to get the rbi it is written. Hunter takes second base indifference by Jays. Vernon strikes out, the first out. Callaspo, intentional walk here to load them up. Conger pinch hitting for Trumbo. Grounds to Hill throw home gets him. Two down, runners move up and bases stay loaded. Mathis, full count, eight pitch at bat here, strikes out swinging. WOW Dotel is incredible. Saves Encarnacion here. Runner at third with nobody out and they didn’t score, that is Jays ineptness. Jays get reprieve but can they do anything about it this time?

Top 12th: Snider a horrible night at the plate tonight, full count, ball four, they want to get to Edwin and the double play ball. I can’t believe he is still out there. There goes Travis, smart guy, staying out of the double play ball. 2-2 count. Strike three, get him out of there. McDonald with runner in scoring position, full count, ball four, great at bat by Johnny Mc. On base four times tonight. Now Davis with two on and one down. Bunts to third, throw to first to get Rajai runners move up. Two down for Hill, two in scoring position, 2-2 count, full count, ball four, bases loaded Bautista now. Nowhere to put him. Just a base hit Jose, no need for grand slam. 2-2 count, oh boy full count, fly ball to Bourjos, nine pitch at bat but once again Jays cannot do it, this time with bases loaded.
Bottom 12th: Camp now pitching. Bourjos grounds back to Camp throw to first, one down. Izturis, singles to right, one on nobody out for Kendrick. Perfect, grounds to McDonald, over to Hill, throw to Lind, double play ball. That’s more like it, now some zip in this team, let’s go now.

Top 13th: The bullpens are like heavyweight fighters tonight, just waiting for that knockout. Lind leading off, singles to right, where were you Adam last inning ? McCoy now probably bunting, he loves that. No pinch hitter, Escobar.... yeah Yunel, go for it. Ball three, ball four, walks him, two on nobody out for Arencibia, strikes out swinging, Snider with one down. Gorunds to first, runners move up but two down for Encarnacion. Grounds (of course) to third, Escobar out at third. This Encarnacion is just unbelievable. 3-22 runners in scoring position and Jays have left 34 on base tonight. How awful is that?
Bottom 13th: Camp still out there. Abreu singles to Davis in centre. Hunter, singles to left, Angels showing these Jays how to do it. Wells now finishing it off here ??? Abreu at third. Fly ball to Snider shallow throw to first double play ball, wow this game has everything, two down. Callaspo intentional walk, runners at the corners with two down, Brandon Wood pinch hitting, Callaspo breaking they have him in pickoff but delayed steal, WHOA Abreu coming home but throw by Hill to the plate nails him. Third out WOW... this game is wild.

Top 14th: Don Haren now pitching. McDonald grounds to short, throw to first one down. This one will never end, five hour game so far. Davis, pops up to third, two down. Hill strikes out swinging. Now you can see the fatigue... Jays have had more than enough chances to win this and have been unable to do it, to get a single at the right time. You can see this one slipping away now.
Bottom 14th: Jon Rauch now pitching. Brandon Wood strikes out, one down, Mathis, strikes out, two down for Bourjos, doubles to Snider in left. Izturis, 0-2 count and he singles to Bautista in right, here comes the run and finally this game is over. Angels win 6-5.

The good: Three or was it four double plays by Jays defence saves Cecil from major trouble. Arencibia a double and a triple in the 5th. How many catchers can run fast enough for triples? Bautista on base four times tonight, Johnny Mc. three hit night. BUT this is all wasted if Jays cannot hit when they have runners in scoring position. Broken record but a major weakness for a team that hopes to challenge for the playoff spot.

Not good; Cecil had very little again tonight and question now about his place in the rotation, certainly the weakest link. Rescued several times tonight by his defence or it would have been far worse. Had the lead hitter on base for every inning except the first.

Terrible: Time after time Jays get the runner in scoring position and unable to get a single. This is their biggest issue right now.

Interesting trivia: Ex-Jay Mike Napoli hit his third home run of the season tonight.
