Escobar extra innings walk off home run wins a thriller for Jays

Jays v Oakland. Game one of three.

Line-ups: Oakland: Crisp, Barton, Jackson, Willingham, Ellis, De Jesus, Suzuki, Kouzmanoff, LaRoche and Brandon McCarthy pitching.
Toronto: Davis, Escobar, Lind, Hill, Rivera, Encarnacion, DH tonight thank you, thank you John Farrell, Snider Nix at 3rd, Molina and Jo Jo Reyes pitching. No Bautista or Arencibia tonight, Jose on personal leave, and Jose was tagged to double tag with JP at beginning of the season. Plus Reyes is new to the league and Jose can guide him through it. Tell that to the fans who are buying tickets to see JP. Ah well.

Top 1st: Crisp leading off. Pops up to Lind at first. One down for Barton, fly ball to Snider two down. Jackson singles into centre. Willingham strikes out leaving Jackson out there. Rays already down 3-0 to the Angels in first inning.
Bottom 1st: Davis leading off against his old team. Grounds to Ellis at second throw to first one down. Escobar same play, two down. Lind bounces one to first, throw to pitcher for third out 7 pitches.

Top 2nd: Ellis fly ball to River in right, one down. De Jesus, bounces to second, Escobar nice play throw to Lind to get runner, two down. Suzuki, doubles past Nix playing at third and Snider misplays this one in the corner. Kouzmanoff. Full count. Grounds to short, throw to first for the out.
Bottom 2nd: Hill leading off. Lines it very hard but right at Kouzmanoff for the out. Rivera, 3-0 and ball four, walk to Rivera. Encarnacion, here we go, same old, same old, Edwin, grounds to third, over to second on to first double play Edwin. Even at DH he still cannot perform. When, oh when will young Lawrie arrive?

Top 3rd: LaRoche, doubles to Snider, Travis almost gets him with that throw. Reyes in trouble. Crisp, nice play, grounds to Aaron at second, dives to get it and throw to first gets him. Very nice play by Aaron as Crisp is fast. One down but LaRoche at third. Barton swinging away, strikes him out nice pitching Jo Jo. Two down for Jackson. Full count. Doubles down the line at third, here comes LaRoche. 1-0 Oakland. Willingham singles to right, Jackson holds at third. Two on two down for Ellis. Oh boy.... doubles to left wall, Snider great throw but Hill drops the ball that should have been an out, 2-0 Oakland. Runners at second and third, Lines it back up the middle great stop by Escobar but throw not it time, run scores. 3-0 Oakland. Suzuki with runners at the corners, Reyes self destructing here, Villanueva warming up. Lines it hard to Nix at third, throw to Lind to end this.
Bottom 3rd: Jays have uphill battle now. Snider leading off. Pops up to third, one down. Nix, pops up to right two down for Molina. Grounds to short, throw to first, another quick inning, only six pitches. Jays left their games on the golf course yesterday.

Top 4th: Reyes still pitching. Kouzmanoff, another hit down that third base line, another double. Number five already. LaRoche, singles into centre, here comes Kouzmanoff, 4-0 A`s. Farrell has to pull this guy. Crisp strikes out. Bronx cheers. Barton, ball four, come on John. Yes finally, Villanueva now pitching, Reyes four runs on nine hits and zilch else. Two on one down for Jackson his third at bat. Already 2-2 tonight. Rajai Davis has had one at bat. 3-0 ball four high and nowhere near to load the bases. Wilingham, fly ball to David, throw nowhere near. LaRoche scores 5-0 Oakland, two down, Ellis, lines to first, nice diving catch by Lind to end this but this one is all Oakland tonight.
Bottom 4th: Davis finally gets another at bat but McCarthy is cruising with a 5-0 lead. 21 pitches for his first three innings compared to 75 for Reyes. Grounds to short, throw to first, one down. Escobar, finally singles up the middle. More Bronx cheers from the crowd. I don`t blame them. Lind, singles off the bag at first Escobar to third. Hill, bounces to short throw to second to get Lind, no chance for double play, Escobar scores 5-1. Rivera, there goes Hill and takes second, grounds to third, nice play by Kouzmanoff throw to first for third out.

Top 5th: DeJesus leading off. Ball four, Villanueva not sharp tonight either. Suzuki, grounds to Escobar, to Hill on to Lind, double play ball. Kouzmanoff, strikes out, Finally a good inning by Jay pitcher.
Bottom 5th: Encarnacion lazy swing to left one down, Snider pops up to third, two down. Nix, singles into left centre. Molina, strikes out. Only 51 pitches for McCarthy. He can pitch two games tonight the way Jays hitters are going.

Top 6th: Villanueva still pitching. La Roche strikes out, Crisp, pops up to Hill behind first two down. Barton, strikes out swinging. Oakland goes three up and down for first time tonight.
Bottom 6th: Now can Jays hitters get to McCarthy they are making him look like Cy Young. Cliff Pennington now in at short. Davis leading off. Finally lines it down the line into left, and motors into second easily. Now, Escobar. Whoa Davis was going and almost gets picked off. Aggression grounds to short, Davis to third, Escobar safe. Two on for Lind, first pitch awful swing, pops up to third, Dais tags and is safe 5-2. That was a horrible swing by Lind but gets away with it. Hill now with Escobar at second. Singles into left here comes Escobar 5-3 Jays. Speed kills. Rivera, throw over gets away at first, Hill moves to second. Grounds to third, Kouzmanoff, throw bounced to first and gets away Rivera safe. Encarnacion. Oh boy..Edwin comes through this time, doubles into the left field corner, here comes Hill Edwin single, 5-4 Oakland. Rivera at third, Snider now can get Jays ahead here. That will do bounces to second, Rivera scores 5-5 game. Two down and Encarnacion to third. Nix, not this time fly ball to centre to end this. But Jays are back in this one. Three errors in that inning, ouch... Even I feel sorry for McCarthy with that defence behind him.

Top 7th: Purcey now pitching. Jackson, grounds to short, throw to Lind, one down for Willingham. Full count. Strikes out inside. Two down. Ellis, strikes out.
Bottom 7th: McCarthy still out there, not his fault with the three errors behind him. Molina lines to right, one down. Davis, pops up to first. Escobar, two down, strikes out looking.

Top 8th: Camp now pitching. DeJesus at bat, singles up the middle. Suzuki, strikes out. Kouzmanoff, perfect, grounds to Escobar, to Hill to Lind, double play ball to get out of this one.
Bottom 8th: Can Jays put this one away now. Lind leading off. First pitch swinging again, singles into centre. Hill, lines bullet hard right at Kouzmanoff, that was tough out. Rivera first pitch swinging, pops up to shallow right. Two down. Encarnacion. Lazy swing to right for the out. These guys make it so easy for McCarthy they refuse to take pitches.

Top 9th: Rauch now pitching. Pennington, lines it to Davis in centre. One down for Crisp, doubles into right off the wall. Jays have a problem here. Barton pops up to Davis in shallow centre, two down. Jackson, very nice Rajai, turns the jets on to run this one down in right. Vernon who
Bottom 9th: Can Jays hitters now get it going. One run needed here. Snider leading off. Don’t be a hero Travis, just a hit is fine. Blevins now pitching. Travis strikes out swinging. One down for Nix. Pops it up to first, two down for Molina. Strikes out swinging, too easy for Blevins here.

Top 10th: Tampa loses another. 0-4 on the season. Jason Frasor now pitching. Wllingham. Oh boy, gets hold of this one, no doubt about it, into left field seats, 6-5 Oakland. There goes Frasor`s ambition for closer. Ellis strikes out, one down. DeJesus, strikes out looking, two down. Suzuki, hits him on the arm, Kouzmanoff, full count, Frasor taking forever and has really slowed the game down and sucks the energy out of the park. Kouzmanoff singles to shallow right, Suzuki running on the hit gets to third. Pennington, another full count, 31 pitch inning (so far) strikes out but too late for Frasor.
Bottom 10th: Top of the order, Davis leading off. Grant Balfour pitching. Rajai does it again, singles up the middle. Escobar, oh WOWEEEE, Junel gets hold of this one, opposite field home run, just over the fence into the Oakland bullpen.

Jays win this one 7-6.

Huge come from behind win. Jays now 3-1 on the season, Jesse Litsch tomorrow to keep it going.

The very good: Davis and Escobar get the gold stars tonight. The hustle of Rajai is a game winner. Escobar`s first home run of season and great timing.
The good: Hill stolen base. Villanueva 2.2 scoreless innings to keep Jays in it. Camp and Rauch also scoreless innings. Jays 3-8 with runners in scoring position, for them that is excellent. Top four in line up come through with 8 of the 10 hits and five of the RBIs tonight for Jays. Escobar with three hits, Davis and Hill with two each and Lind with one. That`s excellent without Jose.

Not so good; Reyes just didn`t have anything tonight. Farrell left him far too long. May have paid the deposit on his bus ticket to Vegas as Morrow will be back soon. He has his first start in Dunedin Thursday this week.
Frasor, gets the goat award, gives up the winning run in extra innings and hits a player who gets to third. And gets the win !!! no justice.
Jays hitters clueless against McCarthy for the first five innings tonight. Quick outs, lazy swings, first pitch swings all the old failings of last season but they wake up in time to make this exciting win. Tough loss for McCarthy though.

Boston loses again 0-4 now, Tampa keeping them company at the bottom 0-4. And Yankees blow big 4-0 lead to lose 5-4 to the Twins in the 10th. Ugly
